Thank GOODNESS we have both Argerich and Fischer - as Artur Schnabel said, the test of a great piece is that no one performance can completely plumb its depths. It is wonderful that both these great artists are available for us to hear - and that those who make a fetish of unnecessary and pointless comparison languish in anonymous obscurity, where they belong.
its incredible ignorant how people compares M. Argerich With A. Fischer ,,,,just for some wrong notes? ,,,,,BTW even beethoven says :mistakes are nothing,,,,that means a lot to me...............if you are a FAN of somebody ,i or we, cant do anything for you, because you cant be logical about this marvellous musician and great performer as A. Fischer was............................Five stars 4 this.. and thanks eribani
Martha is better. This woman played well, but she made many mistakes. She had to slow down the octaves at 3:15 and some wrong notes, then she was weaker and slower.
Listen and watch Martha Argerich play this, notably in 1982, she ruled it !
Both Liszt's piano concertos are wonderful pieces with wonderful piano parts AND [I might add] orchestration. I have NEVER tired of them. Beautiful playing here by Annie Fischer. She is incredible. Only the occasional peep to the left or right just before a really dangerous leap!. Yes the truth is out - Marta Argerich IS a speed demon!
have somebody noticed that in the last two bars of the concerto she plays the same notes of the orchesra part even if Liszt wrote pause for the piano;but this ending even if are just two notes is much more powerfull..
Yes, giangiman; I noticed it too and I must say I like it better this way. I naver understood why, after giving such a demanding performance, the pianist is asked to stay quiet and not participate in the climax of the piece! Of course, I am certain that Liszt had a very good reason.
Whilst not the most accurate performance of this concerto that I've heard, this is one of the strongest, most fearless and exciting accounts of it that I've come across. The playing is always intelligent, drawing its power from the music and communicating its spirit with minimum fuss.
Now in youtube I found the best performance of the Beethoven´s sonata op.110 that of Ivonne Lefébure and this is the best for the Liszt Concerto both performed by women it´s amazing!
Because someone said that no one was no one was better than Marth Argerich in a post and I said yes there was. Its not my fault that Youtube doesn't post reponses in the same thread.
Why do I say Grigori is better? I'll borrow a quote. "Grigory can produce a varieties of colors using little pedal, and thus superior finger-work, he draws from the concert grand an immense variety of sounds; he has an unlimited palette of colours, a spontaneous imagination and a magical control of line. His interpretations are poetic and highly individual, and his rhythmic freedom and elasticity of phrase is unequalled among pianists today." Ive been following this man since I was 12.
And I am not taking anything from Martha but Marth because I love her as well. But Im a classically trained pianist myself and I know phenomenal technique/playing (which Martha has) vs. that of the profound (Sokolov). Sokolov is not just a pianist he is a phenonmenon.
Well we will have to agree to disagree. ;-) Martha is a like a speed demon at times playing everything so fast that one can't hear the delicate phrasings some pieces require. Don't get me wrong I love her.
you must be joking to compare martha argerich to horowitz, there are light years between both artists.you know, the main parameter being a great piano-virtuoso is the skill of musical expression.annie fischer has these skills indeed based on her gorgeous hand and masterful technique.
miss argerich hasent the extended range of expressing on the piano.
most of the time she plays only fast by striking into the keys, sometimes violent!
pianoenthusiast11 - it has just been released on the Doremi label. 2 DVD's including performances of the Beethoven 1, 3 & 5 concertos and other items. Marvellous!

Why always fighting about "who is the best" ? They're all different and valorous. At this level, it's a taste affair.

She's awesome, but don't say she's 'better' than Martha. ifferent epoques, different styles, different lifes, different approaches.

...of course, she is much much better!!!

Martha achieved the same level as Vladimir Horowitz, she's now a godess and she's beyond comparision... not saying Martha's better, though

Better? She makes so many mistakes!! And without taking mistakes into account, this performance is boring, nothing special...
