perhaps more credit should be given to Apache Software Foundation: UMIA and hadoop are the real heroes behind Watson - and they are free for anyone to use and improve
Siri runs on the cloud (that is, on mainframe) rather than running on your iPhone's CPU. That's why you need to connect to Apple server in order to use it.
Just think, the first computer took up about the same size as watson. Maybe, in 80 years time, we'll have computers as smart as watson sitting on our desks or even in our ovens. A whole world of information, wherever you are. The internet could become obsolete...
True, and also we may not need to wait for 10 years to enjoy the benefits brought by such technology because we have cloud computing as a mean to access extra computing power on the server farm.
@RNAinterference I'm looking forward to the day when computers will be able to do EVERYTHING we can do, perfectly matching our intelligence in every single way. Yet, unlike Watson, I'd like for it to fit in a shoebox.
Wow, I thought is it fiction when it is part of "Star Wars" movies and recently "Eagle Eye" movie. I impressed and started to fell threat as well. Smarter planet era is coming soon to wipe away stupid people :)
OMG, this is exactly what my thesis is about. except it's geared towards the web. I'm currently building a web search engine that has natural language processing. I've working on it since 2008. I guess it sucks to be poor. :( D**n IBM!!
gotta say the presentation was great too would be great to see watson evolve to the point where it can not just answer a question but also give thorough explanations on complex issues like this introspective "science of how it answers questions" these kind of infographic presentations should be the status quo of information consumption in the future like qwiki meets watson on steroids
lol this is some pretty interesting stuff

Oh, and @erickvogeler no, that is not Siri. Are iPhones the size of 8 large refrigerators? No they are not.

@MrComputerproinfo Based on the exponential acceleration of computers, a machine like Watson will fit in your laptop within 10 years.
