I was there that night and it was magic! The fact that he had just turned 60 and he and the band can deliver moments like this is amazing. That's why we love the Boss!
Love this, as a soul lover from the 60's, I look on this a real homage, as someone else said it's apparent he just loves being able to pay tribute to this legendary song.
This is not singing... this is making fun, and joy, with the crew, with the other mucisians, with the people.. unbelievable... how is he doing that?? again and again... thanks Bruce...
This is just fuckin awesome. I saw him twice during the european leg of the WOAD tour and, man, it was so fuckin great. But this is soooo fuckin fantastic. Reminds me of some wild nites at the Spectrum in the early eighties. Viva Philly.
@KleWdSide seriously dude i know! how could he suck? his music is so easy to listen too and unbelievable to see live. I can see people diggin' other music, but to say he sucks must be deaf.
As Bruce is supposed to record all his shows this could and should be released as a single. Its just amazing that he should reach a peak like this after 30 years! Easily the best Springsteen live performance ever!!!
the song did become the show closer after this, but the philly version was never topped. bruce had the backup singers take a verse and that killed the crowd and momentum of the song.
It just amazes me how the band can play a song for the first time and it sounds like they have played it forever. I took my ten year old son to this show and he fell in love with this song. He plays the sax part around the house pretending he is the big man.
Have you read this Big Man's book? There's a part in it where a kid about 10 years old hopes on stage with him and rocks out. And I agree with you, I was at the Chicago concert when they played mony mony for the first time and it was fantastic seeing the band go to work
I have been a Bruce Springsteen fan for almost 25 years and have seen him some 70 odd times in concert. However, at this show, which I attended, the Philadelphia Spectrum's last Bruce show, I have never seen Bruce enjoying himself more onstage then during this version of Higher and Higher. (The first time the song had... been performed by Bruce and the Band since 1978). It is pure unbridled joy of a man doing a job he loves more than life itself. We should all be so lucky.
This video is still amazing... and I've seen it numerous times... still an unreal performance... when he turns it up right around the 6 minute mark... damn
No doubt about who the BOSS is......Have you seen him dancing with his mum....!!!!OMFG!!!!!!Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at the ad signs behind the stage. Philadelphia Daily News, Chickies and Petes, MAB Paints. If you're in your 40's like me and have seen the Band in that building lots of times, this video really hits home you. Thanks soooooo much for posting. Great job from the floor. I'm one of those faces behind the stage... we had a blast that night.
Incredible performance!! I think this was the first time they'd played this song in 28 years, what other band around could pull it off like that?? I saw Bruce at the RDS in July and wish I could see him in a more intimate environment like this, sounds like it was one of the shows of the tour
This is the 8th time I've seen The Boss. I was at the historic Spectrum concert the night he turned 50, ten years ago. This time I brought my 13 year-old daughter and she is now a Springsteen fan for life. How could you not be?!!! He and the E Street Band were so amazing this night, I am still flying from it. Thanks so much for posting this terrific song.
Put down the fucking signs while he's playing!!! What, you think he's going to stop what he's playing mid-song to honor your request, you selfish asshole?
I was at the show...it was my 113th Bruce show....I can say, without a doubt, it was the single greatest performance of a song, by the e street band, that I ever witnessed....it was transformative and joyous.....and every song played after that sounded even more intense and inspired......rosalita, for example, which I've seen countless times never was more exhilirating
This is exactly why I keep returning again and again to see The Boss. Wish I'd been in Philly this night! Meadowlands was GREAT but this night seems like the best of the whole tour!!!
This one of my favorite moments from this incredible concert the other night. I never considered this song to be anything special when Jackie Wilson sang it in the 60s or Rita Coolidge in the 70s, but once it got "Bossified" - well, just incredible. Great, great version! Bruce is the best!
Excellent vantage and capture...everything is terrific...wonderful video...you have captured some of the excitment of seeing him live...I have one last at bat...MSG in November...
I've been to probably 80+ Bruce Springsteen concerts, and this song was definitely one of the high points. He always puts so much into his music, but this was just exhilirating!
OH MY GOD!!! This song/video makes you dance and dance and dance and smile and smile and smile.....!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! FUN!!! TRUE BRUCE HYSTERIA!!! It's what it's all about!!! Can't wait to see them AGAIN!
Thanks so much for this post. I officially cast my vote for TheMagikRat to shoot the next live Springsteen DVD! The videos from this Philly stand have been amazing!

It is no suprise that the Rock n Roll HOF concert nights concluded with Bruce and ESB singing this song.
" I know it's only Rock n Roll. But it feels a lot like love."

Well, Curtis and Cindy never had quite enough to do during shows, so I think he wanted to give 'em a chance to shine.
Because they are good singers; I hope he brings them back on the next tour. But you're right - this is the BEST version

And so a true set-closer for the last shows of the Working on a Dream Tour was found off a simple request.
Bruce and his fans need to be shaking the hand of whoever asked for this one, 'cause they had it right.
