From what I heard, the rope they had was bought from the local shipyard and they tested all but the rope the butoh dancer who fell to his death. The rope had come to contact with some chemicals from the shipyard and it dissolved the rope. R.I.P.
There is an urban legend about this in Pioneer Square in Seattle, WA. If you go to the Square around Sept 10th there have been sighting of a "hanging butoh dancer spirit" trying to complete his dance. They call this an anniversary haunting. Supposedly there here have been dozens of these sightings. So, park your butt across the street from the Mutual Life Building on one of the benches around Sept 10th and see if you can spot him!
I was told in the other posted seattle t.v. version of this video , by a poster who responded who lived there , that they had bought the ropes used from a local shipyard ... and it turns out the rope in question , discovered after laboratory analysis , had been degraded by a chemical that had came into contact with it , before they purchased it . That is the reason why it snapped .
Thumbs up if reddit brought you here

Indeed! In 5th grade we learned it was a bad idea to hang your ass from high objects. Who could've guessed!

Pretty shocking and terrible. I don't understand how people could make humorous comments on a video like this.

Could foul play have been involved?
Anyway, this butoh dancer sure made an impression . . . on the ground.
