  • What a proper human being

  • I spotted that book in videos and just assumed it was there roughly for interest's sake, like a curio. The fact that it is a Muslim creationist book is interesting. I encountered a couple of those folks in my undergrad days, it at least makes for a change of pace versus the Christian fundies.

  • This is what differentiates an atheist and a creationist. Many creationists I know and most on youtube blatantly disregard anything disagreeing with them. They do not bother to think about what they do not know and claim that what they know is enough to disprove others. Mike is a classic example of what an intellect would do. Study the offending text and come up with a good stand against the others.

  • Mike Merrifield = SMART >: D

  • Would the astronomer have a book about astronomy on his bookshelf, with beautiful pictures of galaxies, if it said, they were not further than 10000 ly away? Or a picture of mars, labeled as a comet? The "Atlas of Creation" by Harun Yahya (aka Adnan Oktar) is the exact biological analogue of that!

A scientist shouldn't judge a book by its pictures but use his brain even if it's about an exotic field like biology!

  • Now that's the thinking of a person of science.

  • Where did you get the book?: "It just arrived unsolicited in the post" yer right ha ha.

  • @av733 Actually yeah the group that published the massive book sent it to universities all around Europe (and other continents I guess).

  • @snakeguy76

My secondary school biology teacher was sent a copy of the Atlas of Creation too.

  • @av733 Well, when you consider that the number of copies received far surpasses the number of copies sold, there may be something to what the good Dr. has to say.

Now, I've looked it over, and I agree with the statement that the pictures are beautiful. However, the text is horribly mangled, the critters and carcasses thereof mis-identified, and the data amusingly misinterpreted. Now I enjoy reading humorous books, but unintentional humor is embarrassing. see timecube.com for another example.

  • @av733 yes, indeed harun yahya send free copies like that.

  • Get a tablet.

  • I am a creationist I do not take issue with any of the books mentioned especially issac Newton as he wrote more about the bible than any other topic.alasThe foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of man GOD is not impressed by human intellect since it is his creation. As Solomon wrote God knows the thoughts of the wise ,that they are vain.God CONCEALS himself from the wise and prudent but reveals himself to babes.

  • @MrNewkingjames It's unfair to insult babies, they can't defend themselves.

  • @weberbeat

I disagree...a baby wouldn't understand the insult, so it wouldn't be bothered by it. An insult is pretty empty if the person being insulted has no idea they're being insulted and/or aren't hurt by it.

  • @Oreceo creationism and science cannot coexist.

  • And here I was, hoping for a more amusing response. "No it's not a book, actually. That's where I keep my gun."

  • "Just because I don't agree with something is no reason to take it off the bookshelf, as far as I'm concerned. In fact, it's probably more reason to have it on the bookshelf; because things that I agree with, you know, I probably actually know quite a lot about them already. Things that I disagree with, you know, if I'm going to argue effectively against creationism, it's rather important that I have some understanding about what creationists are actually saying."

    Definitely a favorite quote :-D

  • "Did you go out and buy that book?"

"No. It actually arrived unsolicited in the post."

    Epic win

  • This is just like string theory, a lot of physicists don't agree with string theory but they study it because you can't disagree with something without first understanding it, I expected that the sixty symbols community would have thought of that.

  • I myself am a "creationist", and I love his answer. No matter what you believe you should look at all possibilities with an open mind, and just because you may not agree with something doesn't mean you shouldn't try to understand it.

  • @noname2020x did you look at science profoundly? Be honest in your answer.

  • I like the big gorgeous pictures of fossils being compared to fishing lures, to show they still look the same today.

  • If only more creationists thought like this... we would probably have less of them :D.

  • @Tunahan9999 @mooglebee4 Get a room you two!

  • @Oreceo Yes, but those of us who are able to spot errors and misinformation should do our best to make those who don't know much about the subject, aware of them.

Pseudoscience does not help our already confused society to move forward.

  • Hey I was one of the poeple who asked that question! COOL!

  • @TheLiberalSoup Same here :)

  • Talking without the other side is easy. Richard, Adnan invited you on a live debate, why are you afraid?

We don't believe your reason to get away from that debate.

Read the Atlas of Creation on the site of Harun Yahya.

  • @Tunahan9999 adnan is quite simply, a fucking moron. How can a mathematician debate someone who cant even count to five. this is the same thing

  • @mooglebee4 Harun Yahya is a hero, time will tell bye

  • @Tunahan9999 time has already told. He is a failed interior designer. he is scientifically illiterate. Nobody with even the slightest scientific background can take him seriously. He is an utter joke

  • @mooglebee4 That's YOUR opininion!!!

  • @Tunahan9999 obviously. and its also the opinion of anybody who has anything resembling even a basic science qualification

  • @mooglebee4 instead of being arrogant, you can also have respect for other's opinion. Even if it is not the same as your opinion.

  • @Tunahan9999 dont tell me what to respect. I give respect when it is earned. Yahya and his uneducated bunch of follows, have not earned it. I do not respect his idiocy, nor his lies, and i see no reason why i should.

  • @mooglebee4 And again, that's JUST your opinion, O PI NI ON

  • @Tunahan9999 and again. O B V I O U S L Y its my opinion. would you prefer that i gave you your opinion?

why waste time on such a vacuous comment.

  • Yeah and keep your opinion with you, do not push it into my nose.

  • @Tunahan9999 i dont give a shit about you. dont flatter yourself

  • That's a relief...

  • Those are in a lot of 'academies' (partly-privatised schools) here in the UK. They were sent out for free, presumably paid for by some creationist in Saudi Arabia. If only all that money and time had been put into a proper science book to give to schools.

  • We had that book in school. Our headteacher banned it. Lol.

  • @b0bd0le101 I think it could be a great source for homework for students: Here's a chapter from the atlas of creation, see how many errors you can find! That way, the reason it was sent to schools and colleges in the first place would have completely backfired!

  • Let us take a look of the bookshelf of a creationist. Do we think there will be a copy of Euclid's elements? Isaac Newton's Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica? Einstein's writings? Hawkins? How about Hubble? Will there, in fact, be anything other than that which they already propound? Maybe a fundamentalist Christian might have the Koran up there, or Hindu vedic texts. Prof Merrifield is demonstrating intellectual honesty here, good for him.

  • @jacksawild I actually have all those I have all those texts save for any by Edwin Hubble and I also believe in a divine power. Your view of people who believe in a higher power is very skewed.

  • @AlohaBay You are quite right and I am somewhat wrong. I meant "religious fundamentalist" instead of "creationist". It was lazy of me and I apologise.

  • @jacksawild Apology accepted.

  • @jacksawild They may have a copy of The Origin of Species just for quote mining.

  • 'unsolicited in the post', :)

  • Harun Yahya has sent that book all over the world. I've seen more than one copy of that tome at the U of Miami. The geologists keep it because of all the nice photos of fossils.

  • @Ryulong I find it amusing that the people who stole all the pictures for it couldn't tell the difference between photos of real modern organisms and photos of artificial copies like fishing flies. That can't have been an accident, since they used at least two such pictures from the same fly tier's web site.

  • I see, and good point about books on the shelf.

  • So basically, the reason he has the book on his shelf is that it is a large book with pretty pictures that he got for free.

  • I think this book was mass-spammed to many universities.

  • We got that book in our 6th form. It's really bad. It literally says, no jokes, (paraphrasing) "Darwinism is a terrorist cult"

  • I noticed it too! Thanks for the clarification, I just wish creationists sought after knowledge the same way this man does.

  • Thanks for clearing this up :) seems i wasnt the only one who was horrified!

  • Good for you ! While I believe in creation, I do not believe in "Creationism". "Load of what you wash out of a pigsty " in my opinion. Of course I check you out because one shouldn't rely on opinion alone,in one's life.

  • you know in Islam and The Qur'an it was said that the human is made out of soil ,and if you analyse any soil you would find that Carbon (which the human body is based on) is a main component of it ,note that the Qur'an was send from Our -Muslims- God (Allah) more than 1400 years ago

  • I think that became obvious to a lot of people far earlier than that, my friend.

  • To clarify, not the carbon but that humans are made from what we eat, decompose into and so on. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, y'know.

  • @solomsolomol No you won't, carbon isn't a major constituent of most soils. There are a few, such as peat, that have a lot of carbon in them, but peat isn't that common. Loam, the preferred soil for many (but by no means all) crops is mostly clays, which are silicates. Most crops that don't like loam like sandy soils, where the main constituent is quartz.

  • I believe Montgomery kept a picture of Rommel near him, so snap a match in thinking with other greats.

  • Solid reasons for having the book. Its a pity that creationists don't seem to do similar homework when debating this issue.

  • Doubt that. He uses arguments over 100 years old that have been thoroughly debunked by science.

He's a charlatan. Plain and simple.

  • Over 100 years old? So what? Darwinism is older. The materialist philosophy is even older than that. The reality is, Darwin was a charlatan and a bunch of morons started to worship him and his retarded ideas. Adnon Oktar, uses logic and science to debunk Darwins theories. All of his arguments are from modern science. I guess your brain hasn't evolved enough to understand this and is stuck in the ape phase.

  • We are apes, dude. Look up the definition of an ape and you'll see that we're indeed apes.

I'd like to draw attention to your lack of specific arguments. Where exactly do you see Adnan Oktar's aka Harun Yahya's logic and reason?

  • @thestraybullet You mean like when he can't tell the difference between am annelid worm and a chrinoid? You do realize that these two animals are about as distantly related as they can be and still be animals, right?

  • @evensgrey you lose all credibility when you use "am" instead of "an".

  • @thestraybullet So you've got nothing to defend the common criminal Adnan Oktar, then?

  • Last time I did a check Adnan Oktar was in turkish prison. So how is this debate supposed to work?

  • Mr. Oktar is not in prison he give evry day in turkey interviews at tv

  • Adnan was convicted of forming an organization to commit crimes, but he is appealing the decision (so he's not in prison yet) and he has many fundamentalist flunkies that have taken the fall for him already and others still willing to do so.

He could even get some of the people he's been blackmailing into taking the fall for him (though I'm not sure if he's stupid enough to do that, seeing as that's one of the reasons he was convicted in the first place).

  • Thank you for this information. So that is the reason why his "acceptance letter" (that states he goes into prison because God intends to test him) vanished from his internet site.

  • I do hope someone remembered to save a copy of that document. It would make for amusing reading to some of the people he has threatened over the years.

  • GMLSX, your comment is so fuckin stupid i am almost speechless. Yahya offered to debate Dawkins many times while he was not in prison. Dawkins the pussy, declined.

  • He offered? You mean like he'd fly to the UK to debate Dawkins?

  • @GMLSX , what is the relevance of where the debate would take place?

  • That there is a reason he does not travell to the UK. And it is not his choice. You don't know it, do you?

  • It doesn't matter where they debate. My point is, Dawkins is a pussy.

  • You are right about the first point..

..especially if some is not allowed to leave the country.

The second one is literally twisted. Oktar is the person who banned Dawkins web site from Turkey.

He is the one who runs from the claws of Dawkins pussy paws. :D

  • And Oktar (as any other creationist) knew the answer before he asked. "No free advertisement for your crap"

So don't cry when you know that your name is on the doorman's black list of unwanted guest and you get thrown out of the club.

  • GMLSX, No need for odd excuses Dawkins is a coward. If he was confident in his beliefs, he wouldn't hesitate.

I would love to watch the debate. I wont mind if Dawkins advertises his "crap" and I'm sure, neither will Mr. Oktar.

  • @thestraybullet

Why would dawkin debate someone that knows noting about evolution, and has a lot of misconceptions about evolution ?

  • @thestraybullet How does the criminal Adnan Oktar not noticing that a picture of a tied fishing fly, complete with hook, stolen from the web site of a champion fishing fly tier, was NOT a picture of an actual insect constitute 'doing his homework'? (And that picture wasn't an isolated error. He used a picture of a tied spider from the same web site as well.)

  • @evensgrey Why are you knit picking? Minor errors do not take anything away from the main point of the atlas. In fact, pointing these things out gave the atlas more exposure. Good job idiots.

  • @thestraybullet There's nothing MINOR about mistaking a picture of a tied fishing fly COMPLETE WITH HOOK that you took from the web site of a fishing fly tier for the real animal it imitates.

  • @evensgrey are you assuming he compiled the book entirely on his own?

  • @thestraybullet He does imply that he did, actually, although that has little to do with the criminal Adnan Oktar's inability to differentiate between a picture of a tied fishing fly complete with hook taken from the web site of fishing fly tier and a picture of a real fly.

  • @evensgrey so what? you cannot differentiate between "am" and "an".

  • @thestraybullet And you've still got nothing to defend your idol, the criminal Adnan Oktar.

  • @evensgrey

you are a whacked out evolutionist extremist.

  • @thestraybullet Was that supposed to be some sort of coherent defense of the criminal Adnan Oktar?

  • @evensgrey

no. i am stating that you are an extremist.

  • @thestraybullet So you've got nothing about anything at all.

  • @evensgrey I've got plenty. Here is one: You are a one track minded neanderthal.

  • @thestraybullet If you've got plenty to defend the criminal Adnan Oktar, why are you babbling about t hings you assume don't exist?

  • @evensgrey I know that at least one exists.

  • @thestraybullet How do your hallucinations defend the criminal Adnan Oktar?

  • @thestraybullet

Minor error ? He actually have a lot of errors, and they are not minor errors.

I do recommend that you watch the videos about Harun Yahya made by a guy called TheIslammiracle

Harun yahya have a lot of misconceptions about evolution

  • @maroom1 why do evolutionists go to extreme lengths to discredit HY? Are they afraid of people learning the truth?

If Dawkins is confident in his views, why doesn't he debate HY? Shouldn't he be able to correct HY's misconceptions? The fact is, Dawkins is a coward and so are his followers.

  • @thestraybullet harun yahya is a failed interior designer, cult leader, paedophile, ex con, weirdo, and moron, who knows absolutely nothing about science.

dawkins has already refuted this nonsense. there is nothing to debate. hayha knows nothing

  • now that i have heard a little bit more about the atlas of creation, not so interested in reading that exact book.

  • He is a very smart man indeed. Respect!

  • I hope there is a bigger longer video xcoming soon about this because I want to know what he thinks!

  • i am going to see my local library has the book so i can at least look at it. i would like to learn about the Muslim creation story. (i like learning! that is why i watch this channel on youtube.)

btw astronomer Mike is definitely my favorite of the sixty symbol professors!

  • The Muslim creation story is much the same as the Christian one - god created the heavens and the earth and the animal and Adam and Eve and so on. The only major difference is that after the 6 days, there was no day of rest on the 7th day. After all, why would god need to rest?

  • Adnan Oktar, who goes by the cowardly pseudonym of "Harun Yahya", is world renowned as a prominent promoter of specious bullshit.

I consider him to be a conscious fraud.

You won't learn anything from him, save how NOT to push an infantile agendum.

  • @asifyoucare41 Actually, I downloaded a digital copy of the criminal's own web site last year. That was before he edited the photo of the tied fishing fly to remove the hook.

  • why didn't they show some of the pictures?...

  • that guy is cool

  • The pictures are nice, there is certainly no arguing that the production values were of the highest standard, with thick glossy paper and full page photos on every page.

The bad part of the book is also it's best part, from the scientific point of view. Essentially it is so poorly researched that it provides a superb piece of anti-creationism humour.

I'm running out of room here, so I'll continue in another comment...

  • Basically what AoC does is try to claim that organisms have not evolved at all in billions of years. It consists mostly of pictures of fossils and pictures of modern animals. It tries to make the point "A is very old, but exactly the same as B, therefore evolution is false". The scientific errors are so egregious though that they are of great comedic value. There are for example several pictures of fishing lures passed off as insects! Also many photos confuse snakes for eels, and so on.

  • Interesting. I like good pictures.

  • I wouldn't mind a free copy of that book, it sounds pretty interesting

  • As an astronomer he should think of getting an atlas of astrology.

  • I seem to remember Harun Yahya saying that he sent out a bunch of free copies of the Atlas of Creation to various scientists.
