Surprise!..this machine was made just to pop jiffy pop. Lots of Bars had them back in the 1970/80 era..I have one in my home that i use all the time. There is a rod (in that slot on front ) that rises as the popcorn pops and it shuts the machine off automatically when the popcorn is perfect.

Sometimes if the hole that they make on the top is too small it starts to come out the sides. Other than that, it will just burn if left on too long.
