  • Dont be so bloody daft, it was the PEOPLE who wanted the Monarch back because Parliament proved it was just as corrupt as any Monarchy, just as it is today, so my friends, suck it up, adapt and overcome, oh yes and get the fuck out of Europe, that is if you hate corruption enough foe never was there a more evil band of swindling thieving trough snuffling pigs ass that bunch of whoresons that sit in Brussels. To paraphrase Cromwell, " Away with you, begone for you have sat there long enough."

  • @Ba As Oliver Cromwell said, "Christ, not man, is King." With the Word of God traveling from Jerusalem westward, Its power & blessing has transformed nations & England was no exception. But once It departed, decline ensued. His Word is now departing the USA & is being planted in China on Its homeward bound back to Jerusalem, upon the second return of Jesus Christ, our Lord & Savior to make this earth His kingdom forever & ever. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  • The guy in the square at the start could almost be shouting about modern Westminster!

  • Even though this film is wildly inaccurate, it's flaws are enhanced by the fact this posting is badly edited and doctored by SSRusitah, why, I don't know.

  • Thank you for posting.

However, this is the worst piece of revisionist history I've ever seen. I'm truly astounded. The whitewashing of Cromwell's position, role, character etc is truly untruthful, unhistorical, insulting to the audience and downright immoral.

  • Man Cromwell was a mega douche. Long live the King. Constitutional Monarchy is where it is at. Certainly not a republic or a puritan dictatorship.

  • @MajBlood - really? the U.S. is, or was, a republic and they've done pretty well...we have a constitutional monarchy that works because the queen keeps her royal ass out of our affairs and merely visits from time to time..

  • @fowzie777 Yeh and we have done better. Maybe I will list the differences later. Although, one of the biggest differences is our concept of accountability. In our system, the prime minister can be removed the second the public loses confidence in his abilities. In the United States, if you elect a bad president, you have to sit down and take it for at least four years.

  • @MajBlood Both systems have an impeachment process. It's only the UK that doesn't use it.

  • @Redcarpet01 Impeachment in the US is incredibly complicated, rarely happens, and can only be done in certain situations. Prime Ministers lose the confidence of the house all of the time in Britain.

  • @MajBlood PMs don't lose confidence votes often. Last time in UK was Jim Callighan in 1979. And my point stands, the option is available in both Parl. & Pres. systems for impeachment. Election loss preferred overall it would appear though, then the embarrassing exposures possible in such a process.

  • Cromwell was a bloody hypocrite. He claims for Democracy and then places himself as Lord Protector of England, and tries to pass it on to his son. Parliament has filled England with corruption and deceit.

Long Live her Majesty the Queen, and God bless the future King Charles. Long Live the Monarchy!

  • @AlphaOmega804 - lol....you are an idiot...not even the queen wants chuck to be king...could you imagine elephant ears as king? they are leeches on society and care nothing for the common man or woman...they travel in the upper echelons of power and money thinking of ways to enslave and impoverish their subjects..

  • @fowzie777 And you delude your self into thinking Parliament is any better. A democracy for the people, by the people etc etc doesn´t and never will exist! That is the cold reality. Democracy is filled with corruptiojn and deciet. And it is an illusion, there will always be rich, and influential people ruling over the comman man. At least in a Monarchy there is not pretense of fairness. Are the comman man any better then they were. Our votes are only worth the paper their written on.

  • @AlphaOmega804 - under a just monarch i would agree...but man has enjoyed the most freedom and the greatest age of invention and innovation under republican and parliamentary democracy...democracy's downfall is the inherent selfishness of mankind and the desire by some to dominate and rule others...so yes it is not perfect and i would also agree that it may not be possible to govern some countries in a democratic fashion...china for instance - sorry for the insult, i get carried away.. cheers

  • @fowzie777 Apology accepted, sorry for being less then polite in return.

  • Such a great actor was Richard Harris! What a great movie this is! I will say this, I honestly think that Cromwell had a few regrets about executing Charles I but, what was done...was done! The man held and stood his ground and his confidence and lead England to be a great nation!

  • We need a Lord Protector now more than ever

  • we need cromwell :(

  • OBAMA FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you are scum sir true then and true today abolish Parliament now

  • @henryhaven Why is Parliament what should be abolished?

  • As the mace fell, so began englands decent into total dictatership and terror.

  • It is such a shame, and I say this as an ardant monarchist, that Cromwell's experiment with democracy never worked. He was a great man, a man who truely wanted the best for his country. Dispite his many faillings and crimes, he was a polititian who placed the good of the people above his own personal ambition and was a truely great Englishman.

  • dis fil is so sad but makes me angry

  • Archiebunkerville you are a pratt!

TO COMPARE CROMWELL TO HITLER IS

    INFANTILE

  • @mercian7 Have you read about Cromwell's campaign in Ireland? What he did there would be a good reason to make the comparison.

  • If only the politicians of today followed what is said at the end of this film.

How much better would we be.

  • John Adams and John Hancock:

We Recognize No Sovereign but God, and no King but Jesus! [April 18, 1775]

  • religious fanaticism always leads to genocide, sure the cathlic church was corrupt BUT was this mans religion any better? how many people did he slaughter in ireland?

  • i feel bad fo the irish this man comited crimes similar in scope to Hitler,

HOWEVER the irony is he did set britian on a raod to democracy, that is the irony of history

  • Cromwell, Cromwell, Cromwell the Great

  • The irish would of done the same if they had a leader and army worth a damn life was cheap and harsh back then it wasnt like he was the only guy doing that shit its just a tactic to scare the people and the irsh dont even know their own history any castle there with a whole in it was taken by cromwell

  • Cromwell is not to be venerated. A good general true and Ken Hughes does a great job at deifying him. Do you know this movie was first proposed to English film corporations and was outrightly rejected. There is an obvious reason. If you like tidy Americanized good vs. evil, over-simplified ignorant history, and the super-imposing of American reasons for revolution in the 18th century upon England's than this is a treat for you! Cromwell slaughtered nearly half of Ireland, do some research!

  • @namfoodler People tend to look at history through a present day perspectivelife was cheap then times were harsh he probably didnt want to kill all those people but he thought it would scare the shit out of everyone and they would give up it almost worked he ended leaven Ireland after getting his ass handed to him

  • @namfoodler his son i think then took over and finished the job but as everyone knows the irish r not the kind of people who will be told what to do

  • @namfoodler

Cromwell gave the Irish at Drogheda a chance to surrender, which they turned down. I would say that you're the one viewing history from a modern lense - it was 350 years ago and there were different standards of conduct, different views on religion and the value of life. The Irish of the period weren't exactly saints, either. (Not that I'm defending the whole history of England's involve in Ireland.)

  • Once again we need Oliver Cromwell

  • A DVD of this to all honourable members!

  • oliver cormwell was a turly good man, he give the people the power

  • 6:00 great speech but...who is he talking to o.0

  • He's talking to the audience - it's a soliloquy.

  • "Anarchy, Corruption, Division, and Disatisfaction.

"The enemies of this nation have flourished under your protection.

    "Godless, Self-seeking, Ambitious tricksters."

    Nothing has changed.

  • Absolutely spot on. The problem is for the life of me I cannot see the eqiuvalent of a Cromwell on the horizon

  • blah

  • Oh where is our Cromwell, we need this man NOW

  • Cromwell was the father of modern England and Britain. But right now a military dictator is not what we need.....and never will be.

  • @trunky123 Not sure we really do need a religious bigot running the country, though I accept that Cromwell had his good points too!

  • @TricycleTim , may God forbid we EVER EVER have a Calvinsutic Geneva again!!

  • @trunky123 You had him. His name was Brown, G.

And, Almighty God, he was... ABOMINABLE!

  • this film is completely wrong charles comes in and says on his list is oliver cromwell when in actual fact cromwell wasnt on the origional list

  • Dear God please send England another Cromwell and we will promise not to screw it up this time ! ! !

  • I totaly agree with you, we are governd by a bunch of greedy MPs shame on them i say"

  • @grimerwormtong ; The people must work on this vision. And then the Good LORD will raise an Oliver from amongst them.

  • @grimerwormtong As long as he leaves Ireland alone this time.

  • @grimerwormtong What would you do with him? You already have democracy. He would just bog you down with his puritanism.

  • @TarEldamir Did you not hear the words work and bread for all? Do you honestly see that in America? What a fool you truly are to say such things. Puritanism is a religious system, not a system of government. Cromwell tried to eradicate imperialism.

  • @grimerwormtong Well if your a christian you can make that difference, but don't be like the nicolaians

  • Isn't this account, whether true or adapted with artistic license, another example of how religion, even so-called "Christianity," has given rise to violent death and conflict in the name of God. How would the real "prince of peace" look upon such bloodthirsty "supporters"?

  • When Cromwell died, his coffin was decorated with a Crown and scepter. He was called His Highness Oliver Cromell By the Grace of Almighty God and the Republic, Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland for Life.

It was a way around the absence of a king, without whom the country could not be lawfully governed.

  • Cromwell was the first of a kind! The rebel commoner who has more talent in his little finger than Kings and nobility have in their collective brain cells. The military dictator in the name of God and a higher truth.

  • Wow. This is an abomination. Not even close.

  • i am
