anyone remember the game at the garden where the bruin went into the stands and took a yuppies shoe off and beat him with it?...I remember that..was a awesome yuppie beatdown...
Toronto's goalie mask was through into the crowed during the fight..."dont give it back" was the chant from the new york crowd....look how LOW the Glass was back them !!
Jacques Plante, did lose his 'space-age' mask, after he looked like a 'Linesman' whilst, jumping in as the '3rd man in' when, then , Ed Giacomin ran him from 200ft. The MSG announcer sarcastically asked for it back. It was never returned, that's funny. This brawl was 9 minutes long..
Toronto moved on in 6 games but that was as far as Toronto went in '70/'71. the 1st year of the ugly Toronto Jerseys, that Harold Ballard changed at Christmas.
@mayblob Wrong. Bernie Parent was the Toronto goalie who lost his mask in a different brawl. Granted, it did look similar to this clip but it was a different fight.
@weaselsuit : This clip was from later in that same game. Plante was in goal for Toronto because Vic Hadfield had tossed Parent's mask into the crowd in the brawl during the previous period.
Goalie fights, old-time style. The weird thing is, with the British influence, you'd think Canada would've had early TV, too. But while Britain had what we'd now call "network TV" in 1936, and the U.S. in 1947, Canada didn't get the CBC on TV until 1952. Ed Sullivan went to color in 1965 (sorry, Beatle fans), and pretty much everybody else in the U.S. was doing color by the next year, if they weren't already. ("Bonanza" started in '59 and was always in color.)
@ellranman they werent "broadcasting" (or filming as you say) in B&W...you see this in B&W only because it wasnt until late 1971 that CBC began to archive with color video tape....prior to that all VTR archiving was done in black and white kinoscope. CBC was broadcasting HNIC games in color from november of 1966. I watched this game on my uncles Big Zenith Color Console , I was 10 years old and remember it very well...I believe it was easter.

You try getting slashed at 25 mph, with no real padding. You drop your gloves for the purposes of 'memory retention'. It's a priority.

@ClassicShowbiz Why are you watching hockey instead of figure skating twinkle toes??

It's unbelievable that in 1971 CBC was still filming their telecasta in Black & White.
The American networks, NBC, CBS and ABC had been using colour since the mid 60's.

very cool vintage footage and amazingly shows the Rangers winning the scrums. Teddy Irvine could always be counted on to stand up. Good stuff, thanks
