Mechanical just means made by things of machinery, to be qualified to be a "machine", using interrelated parts with seperate functions that can move on their OWN when activated... A wooden ship as shown in the video is -NOT- one of those. It's closer to carpentry than machinery... I think a battleship would work though as its automatic, just not a wooden one.

While a wooden pirate ship Transformer may seem impractical, it's still a pretty neat idea.

They did have ship Transformers in the original line. Including an aircraft carrier who could also transform into a jet, and in a later line, a submarine.

this looks very intresting. watched your train transformer too. i use 3ds max, i dont know what you use. i can make pretty convincing effects by combining 3ds max and after effects but my only weakness is texturing. i have used materials for cars and stuff but i am now making some characters and beginning to worry about how im gonna texture and bump/normal map them. if you use 3ds max and can make some kind of tutorial for unwraping and texturing and normal mapping. that would be great.

@gnight21 You're talking to the wrong guy. One of my biggest weak spots is also texturing, especially UV mapping. I use procedurals and cubic mapping whenever possible. Actually the train was entirely non-UV except for the bolts, which I UV'd before cloning a thousand times.

@gnight51 I like to use textures based on real pictures. It's usually best if those pictures were taken on a cloudy day, because you don't want shadows and specular highlights baked into your model before the rendering even starts. If I misunderstood your comment, please clarify.

I know that first the model must be unwraped (what i can do wery well) but then what? do i just take the unwrapped empty texture maps and just draw something on them or what? photoshop some pictures on them?

@gnight51 That's pretty much what you do. The unwrapped UV should be contained in a square. Then you export those wires as an image. In photoshop, you paint the textures using the wires as a guide to show you where the texture will end up.
