  • "Long bend in the river"? It's a meander. I know because I've got an offer to read geography at Durham :)

  • @04twillshaw I would like to read geography but I can't because I am illiterate!

  • PAHAHAHAHA 'one of the most beautiful...' i swear last time i checked, which was last saturday, the river was brown.

  • its a village not a city

  • @ghf1983 when a town has catherdral it is classed as a city...

  • @ghf1983 when a town has cathedral it is classed as a city...

  • I love this cathedral. I have to take a trip 2 or 3 times a year just to keep my eye on it.

I remember going to Paris when I was a child and going to see Notre Dame, it was sooo famous, but my reaction as a 7 year old was- "Well, it's nice like, but it's not as good as Durham!"

  • be sure to visit kepier woods, where all the stone for the cathedral and castle came from

  • i cant wait to visit Durham! looks so beautiful x

  • im truely proud of this video. I live in chester le street, and we dont realise how lucky we are to have such a nice place near us.

Durham is truely one of the nicest places in the world!

  • Brian Ferry, Paddy McAloon, Gordon Sumner not too far away either, durham has good stock.

  • I could live there....anything would be better than Riverside, CA

  • I like Durham. Looking forward to be there next time.

  • Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful town.

  • The best place in the country

  • I fell in love with Durham... SO beautiful and historic and not too big = PERFECT for a history geek like me ^^ Must get there!

  • Most beautiful city in England-born there but now exiled in Windsor. Doesnt hold a candle to Durham. Thanks for the nice post

  • @DavFin9 Yorks much more attractive and interesting to be honest )

  • Home sweet home!

  • best place ever only because cos i live here

  • yeahh that's the good thing :/

  • my last name is Durham!

  • Lovely place and the Barbour Factory Shop in South Shields worth a visit

  • this place is beatiful. my ancestors came from there to virginia in the 1600s

  • Some greast views of the Union Society buildings on Palace Green

  • Ah cool...my home city!

  • Its still England on the other side of hadrians Wall, the county of Northumberland stretches about 60 miles before you reach Scotland.

  • Durham is small ( can be explored in 4 hrs ), old & quaint. Compared to other places in England it is very pretty. For studying I think I would very much recommend the place.

  • Check out " Buss ride to Durham... are you RENETTO... From YouTube? " to get a real bit of a feel for the area.

  • Gorgeous Aerials!

  • Many many good memories of visiting this historic city. Thankyou Karen for sending me this video.

  • Durham City is bidding for UK Capital of Culture. Do a google search on it and back it. Lets take this beautiful City and put her on the map once and for all.

  • cool

  • I hope there are no snakes there However I am considering applying to Durham soon does anyone have any advice for me?

  • Did you go to the university? Do you live there?

  • I am seriously considering applying for Durham next year (English degree); anybody got any opinions ?

  • Yeah i live here too but what they miss out is the chavs fishing by the river lol

    Still great place to go.

If you're a tourist, you have to go up the Cathedral tower, i just went up today.. Fun :P

  • I heart Durham

  • Same here

  • me too

  • Beautiful place. I live up the road in Sunderland

  • I was born in Durham and exceptionally proud of the fact. I have globe trotted...but my heart is always in Durham. If you haven't visited Durham plan to, as you are missing a true treasure. The beauty of the warm, friendly folk and the actual environment are memorable. The true local dialect / accent is 'pitmatic geordie' as Durham is steeped in mining history. Plan a visit to Durham, it is a must !

  • I wish I was born there :(((((

  • I live in Durham also but it depends on the person penguinpelvis. As I love my history I never tire of the beautiful scenery Durham has to offer.

MythF you live in France? I would love to have lived there as well lol as England has always secretly envied French architecture, though Durham is unique in its own right setting the tone for others to follow (the cathedral was the first to use ribbed vaulting that would later feature in later French gothic architecture for instance).

  • its a norman cathedral tou tool

  • I live in Durham :D

You actually don't appreciate the scenery or the cathedral or anything when you live here.

And we don't speak cockney AT ALL

Some of us are slightly geordie, though.

  • @HeathLedgerisalegend actuly our accent is called pitmanic but it is diein out cos the mines have gone

  • @HeathLedgerisalegend that is true personally people like this spoil durham

  • @HeathLedgerisalegend slightly geordie, er no we're not, Durham is on the River Wear, not the north bank of theTyne.

  • please can I use some of this footage in one of my videos?-its just so beautiful!

(its non profit and i will mention the "durhamuniversity" channel in my credits.)

  • im not sure whether im going to make one after all.....does this guy have a durham accent?

  • i live in durham and people speak half geordie and half cockney , you can hear a bit of both in thier voice.

  • balls do they, they speak pitmatic actually

  • most people in durham do speak geordie though, like me (:

  • I but the accient in the villages around durham is stronger then the accient inside the city of durham.

  • No this guy doesn't have a Durham accent. He has an RP accent which is not tied to any particular place in the UK but can be found nationwide - he's probably a former student from the University from down south somewhere.

And yes traditionally their accent is linked with the geordie accent remebering that both have mining and industrial pasts.

  • Beautiful place. This video has got some great photography.

  • I live in the Durham in North Carolina. Named for the real Durham of course. I thought Duke Chapel was nice, but wow, Durham Cathedral is simply gorgeous.

  • Jeez I want to move there now!

  • best thing about durham is the big meeting, oh it was fab this year!! i love living here :) im so lucky ;P

  • I am studying in the city, but I am leaving soon... so sad...

  • Nice video! i must get one of those hellicopters for our vids! hehe

  • Durham city. Home of my birth and possibly one of the best cities in the country. Good job that southerners dont know much about the place.

  • so true.

  • @2311garrett

    are people in durham prejudiced?

  • @Benwell1 KUDOS !!!!

  • @2311garrett why? my family are southern and love the place

  • Its beautiful city, amazing! Where is the older pub "Victoria" from 1890?

  • My family were from Durham, anyone know sisters Honor, Nancy, Kathleen all moved away now ?

  • Durham, the county of my birth and the most wonderful cathedral on gods earth. its been amazing me for 50 years, if you havnt been there, do yourself and your spirit a favour, go, Ive been to loads of other cathedrals and none come close.Check the links with Lindisfarne, another beautiful place, so peaceful and other worldly, set your spirit free, walk in the footsteps of the saints.

  • i am home sick i now live in holland

  • Born and raised there...No finer city in the world...

  • beautiful! that's where I want to live soon! :D
