Wow! A big thank you for this information, it is great and one I will use for sure. Everyone talks about a "bug out" location. Would you please pm me and fill me in on what this is and how a person determines where to go. I am so concerned and really have no clue what we can do. Thank you so much :o) I need good advice.
Great idea, I made one last night and it works great.. I used a can and I have several gallons of used deep fryer oil that I use for heating etc and it burns for a long time on very little oil..
Awesome! And two weeks too late. I just threw out some rancid oil! GRRRRR! But, as with everything else in prepping, "Now I know!" Thanks so much. (I hope you win too)
I am going to try this. A little older lady showed us how to make one with only a tiny short wick and a the bottom cut off a yougurt cup to poke the wick through and float on top of the water with only a thin layer of oil. It worked and burned till the oil was gone, but I like your method better, looks like it would last longer, and can be stored. Thanks for the vid.
@Xtrocki No question is ever dumb. You can get wicks at craft stores or sometimes at discount stores like Gibsons. You can also order them online. Blessings!
@BexarPrepper Thanks so much! Wow, Gibsons...I haven't seen one of those since I was a very little girl. You just brought back a great childhood memory for me!
try drinking several oz a day of colloidal silver - I've been using it lately to avoid the icks from my grandkids after a visit - seems to be working so far! hope you're felling better soon - you're a doll
I bought dollar store olive oil. it is cheap and taste yucky. so why not use it to burn?.lol So I bought the whole shelf..anyway.. Thank you and Get well soon.!!
Oh im so sorry I didnt know you were sick! Now I feel bad. Oh please feel better soon! I dont like any other preppers out there and youre here so i already feel like youre "mine" (my friend).lol hugs and get well soon!
Ok i have a request. can you please have a tutorial on how you fanagled the hanger to hold the wick? (Yes I will be needing help with that lol) And is that a homemade wick or a store bought wick? Also, you gently shook the candle are you seriously telling me, it can get wet with the water and olive oil and still light? If so, THATS FREAKIN AWESOME!!
love the idea of it being closeable but the water thing seems strange i would think it would have a problem with wicking. whats the burn time on 3/4 water 1/4 oil
You got to be kidding me. That is so clever. Thanks so much for sharing. I sure do hope you win cause this was a good entry. I cant wait to show the hubby. He likes stuff like this.
They used to sell little plastic wick holders and short wicks in the late 70's that would float on top of a layer of cooking oil. Haven't see them around for a while. Poor baby, listening to you wheezing like that made me want to spring into action. I am a Respiratory Therapist and have taken care of respiratory conditions in patients all of my adult life. I hope you have an inhaler to use, if not I would see the doctor soon. You have significant wheezing there. I hope you feel better soon.
@lauriegirl2 You can still buy them online, Amazon has them too, they are called floating wicks. Great item to have in storage. Make sure you save all your out of date oil. I stocked up on a great deal on cooking oil once just for most of it to go rancid, but I saved it for this very reason. God Bless!
