Beautiful video... I must say it's a shame that on Youtube I could'nt find the short moment during the wedding where Lucius grabbs Ivy's hand cause she's lost in the crowd. I just find this moment so beautiful ! You know, he doesn't even look at her, just as if that was the most natural thing to do...
Okay, I'm getting a bit stupid, I probably should stop :D
@junkmailboy1000 I agree about the marketing, but I don't think the movie is anti-religious since Shyamalan isn't anti-religious (see Signs). The elders weren't trying to control the villagers, but protect them from the evils outside the valley. They failed. I'd say the message is that you can't outrun the evils in life no matter how hard you try and that there is good and bad everywhere.
@mowingthefrontlawn that's what every religion claims to do too, which is "protect you from the evils" everywhere. And every religion tells you scary stories of what happens if you don't follow the "rules" and gives their own hocus pocus methods of warding off evil so they can keep you living the way they want you to. It's exactly what these elders were doing to the young, clueless generation.
@junkmailboy1000 Hmm. The religion I know most about is Christianity and, therefore, I know that not every religion fits that bill. Christianity has no methods to ward off evil because, according to Christianity, there aren't any. The consequence of wrongdoings is guilt. It also makes no effort to control your life. It's a religion where you don't have to do a damn thing but believe it.
So, I see what you're saying. Maybe some religions, but not all.
@mowingthefrontlawn In't the consequence of wrongdoing going to hell? There aren't any evils? What is the devil supposed to be then? And aren't the steps to making sure you don't succumb to the dark side include things like getting baptized, praying, declaring that you accept jesus in your life, and many others?? These are all still methods to keep people living in fear of not going to heaven. And to not have to do anything but "believe it" is exactly what the elders wanted their kids to do
@junkmailboy1000 To answer you questions: The consequences of wrongdoings would be hell if there was no forgiveness; I never said there weren't evils; The devil is a rebellious angel; Baptism, prayer, and accepting Jesus are not ways of preventing one from doing wrong and they're not meant to cause fear. Some people will, of course, fear hell, death, and other things, but fear is natural and it shouldn't interfere with one's daily life.
@mowingthefrontlawn The elders never wanted them to go out and actually look for the truth, and forced them into believing the "village" was the only world they needed. Told them to just believe on faith and trust the elders. Because if the kids ever found out the magical beings never existed (aka religious figures) it would've turned the village into a mutiny.
@junkmailboy1000 That's all true, the only difference being that the elders knew that the creatures were invented by them whereas many people actually believe their religion. You'd probably do well in comparing The Village with the Roman Empire's use of Roman Catholicism; Many Roman leaders didn't believe it, but used it as a tool to control and rake in money.
and the acters are really good. i love the whole "love" is why i'm doing this thing :D... one of my friends on the other hand think it's one of the most stupid movies ever made:( how sad for her lol XD
i've watched this 43 times and counting and still to this point there are not ANY words on earth that could explain how outstanding this movie is im 14 and i would pick watching this with friends over going to the mall when you had billions of $ to spend there
You are quite discerning for 14. I am convinced this has to be one of the few nearly perfect movies of all time. It is so tragic, this community is trapped in fear & lies. Yet the only hope is love.
I think this movie is one of the most underappreciated movies ever made. I absolutely love it. I love all Shyamalan's movies that I've seen, which I think are all except Unbreakable. Plus the score for this movie is simply to die for.
Why do people thumbs down comments like these? I agree, though. Shyamalan is so underappreciated and now underrated. People just LOVE panning his movies without even thinking.
i think most people that watch his movies dont even think wats happening. they expect the plot to b just right in front of them, but in truth, u hav to dig deeper. all his movies hav some twist in the end. and most people that hate his movies dont even know wats happening.
i like the fact the joaquin pheonix is the bavestr in the village and tries to venture out to the woods but because he can see, hell know the secret that the elders hav. and thats y ivory must go.
ive been looking for the scene at 5 mins ...the porch scene ...my super favorite scene...thank you ..and btw, the entire movie is perfect - i like that scene best but the part in front of the elders is good too. i like that part where they know its him who crossed over the lines... and how brave he is... i like it very much. the whole movie is simply beautiful. sorry for rambling. hugs
"T-That is why I am on this porch, Ivy Walker. I fear for your safety before all others. And, yes... I will dance with you on our wedding night." I'm quite desensitised, but that made me cry. So beautiful. Whoever says Shylaman is cold and clinical in his filmmaking should pay attention to the porch scene.
What was really hearttaking with that line was that night after I saw this movie, my husband proposed to me after my best friend's wedding. I had this song in my head when he did.
I love the movie! Its atmosphere blending in with the song makes it mesmerising! Without the soundtrack the movie wouldnt have such a uniqueness to it!
The moment on the porch, "When we are married, will you dance with me?" That is one of the most beautiful and romantic things I have ever seen. It's so simple and subtle. I long to have that in real life.
I've actually enjoyed all Shyamalan's movies.
The Village was just an amazing film, and so was the Happening.
Both films have their own separate message about life, but it's sad how it's true.
The Village; one of the BEST films ever.
