y are ppl arguing about americans playing hockey? i meen whats the big deal? we play hockey, ooooooo who cares? i play hockey. i love hockey. i take it seriously. its all i play and im pure american. i went to europe for hockey. americans can play too. y cant we play the sport without takin crap huh, canada?
@DoctaCraker Idunno. I'm canadian, hockeys a sport I don't care who plays it. There are retards all over the world, and some happen to be canadian and think hockey should only be played here haha
Well, the lighter and the more easy the ball bounce on the blade, the harder it is.
Using the pipe idea does help a lot to move properly.
Using a golf ball helps to have faster reflexes as it goes even faster than with a puck.
An other idea I would encourage would be to put on roller blades and lay many things down. Koavlev did something similar a coupel of years ago as he used bottles as cones to turn around them and puck as obstacles to deke. This one is of course an overall check.
I picked up a couple of the "SmartHockey" off-ice balls for training. However, despite the fact that they purport to be of identical feel to a puck on ice, when handling on smooth concrete the "Smart" balls maneuver much more easily than a puck on the ice. Why didn't they make them heavier???
i love how canadiens make fun of us for playing hockey when were just as good at it as them, yet they try and play americas game, football. sll the young rookie sensations are from usa hockey. toews, kane, mueller.
Well - I love that Americans play the game. winning wouldn't be fun if there was no strong competition. Canadians dominate the NHL and some US sensations are children of Canadian Hockey players (Brett Hull). As for football it's way less popular here than hockey, baseball and basketball. My highschool didn't have a team. As far as I can tell, the only non-Canadian team Captains to ever win the NHL were Hatcher (USA) and Lidstrom (SWE). You have some catching up to do! lol
Yeah, hockey is growing slowly in the U.S. but the major focus is on football here. Almost no high school teams (in Illinois at least) have sponsored teams, it's all club hockey.
But Canadian hockey (Bantam/Midget level) isn't really that much better than U.S. hockey. We're an average level team around here and we've fared pretty well against mid ranked Canadian teams in tournaments (took second on multiple occasions, once only because a team with half illegal/over-aged players beat us by one.)
iihf, canada 499,000 registered players, usa 465,000 registered now when we go by you and get to 600, to 700 thousand registered players we're going to DOMINATE THE HOCKEY WORLD,so my advise for you is to DEAL WITH IT !!!!!!
and have won a world cup of hockey, olympic medals and world championships.. I know.. wild. They even have...wait for it... players rated amongst the top in the world... where're you rated by the way? what's that? the list didn't go THAT far? :(
20 mins a day every day. it's important to keep at it. if 20 mins is too much then do less. do so much that u're able to practice every day. and as ken martell says learn soft touch then move on to the second drill if u've learned that move on to the next. if after a month u realize that 20 mins is not enough add five minutes
which is why you have to use a ball and not a puck, because a ball rolling on this surface is a better simulation of a puck gliding on ice than a puck gliding on this surface.
Very nice video for the kids who wants to learn how to stickhandle, one thing I would suggest though is to do everything you mention with a puck instead of balls since it is realistic and the more you practice and get better, you will be able to be as quick with a puck as with the guy with the ball in the video. To use a puck though, you have to have a plastic or acrylic board with a spray like armor all to get the board to slide like ice.
