i remember going to visit a wee guy (or an eyeball as it was known then in about 1981/2 i think?) called alan who was thalidomide and stayed in ruchhill hospital on a permanent basis, we were all on cb radio and his handle was teddy bear he was allowed the cb in his room and had a wee magmount outside the window. all the best wee man if your reading this, if anybody else was on the rig at the time (early eighties in north glasgow) let me know if you remember him.
well well, to me its not awesome, it sends chills down my spine ,, i was put in this place when i was just 18mths old after contacting broncial pheomonia, could there still be anyone that worked there in 1966??? i remember my mum saying it was like a concentration camp, calum
Thanks for sharing! I've been desparately wanting to go up and film the place but, I have to admit that I'm terrified any nutters are hanging about the place!
I expect it's the perfect hang-out for junkies and Neds.
I cried for an hour when I saw this video. I was 10 years old when I was a patient there in the late sixties, sent there with a life-threatening infectious disease. What isn't clear in the video is that the rooms were like cells with a window in the door, & glass panels through to all the rooms in the corridor, one patient to a room, even my parents weren;t allowed in. Even at that age I saw 2 children die in the rooms next to mine, it has had deeply disturbing effect on me throughout my life.
Preposterous!! I worked in this hospital in 1974 and it was never in this state and there certainly wasn't that infernal sad music in the background...Wouldn't the patients have enough on their plate without that din?

mate... u put me back in time. I never believed I was schizo, ...as they've labelled me... but I'm not sure anymore!
... 'coz I've met so many familiar faces amongst those in the hallways, not that long ago!

I can't believe you went in. I get within 300 yards of the place and want to run a mile the other way.
Really well done vid!
