These German hinds used to belong to the East Germans or DDR. They now longer have them because they are replaced by the euro copter when Germany unified.
Iraq had the Mi-24 hind around the time of the first Gulf war back in 1991 , we destroyed all but 129 of them and brought them back to the United States and there now sitting in a storage warehouse ! A good helicopter indeed .
The title is disrespectful, this is a Raussian war machine, the title could have been something like "Germany Democratic Republic - Mil-24 Evalutaion" not "German Mil-24"
@DisposableWarrior No, they were never introduced into armed service in the united Germany. Most were given away mainly to former Warsaw Pact countries which already operated Hinds or needed them to build up their armed forces and some were given to museums.
@DisposableWarrior no we don´t have. but our helicopter stock in the development.so we haven´t a combat helicopter currently.but by 2014 the helicopter will hopefull be finished. it will called "tieger".
@druddock Firstly, I dont know any fighter that would be afraid of any helicopter. All a helicopter can do against a modern fighter is hide or hope to get lucky with an infrared missile. I will sort of agree with you, this aircraft is preferable to a military with a tight budget but if you have the money for specialized aircraft, like an Apache, Chinook, or A10, why not prefer them? The blackhawk is better in the utility mission, apache in the fire support role, and A10 as an attack platform.
I dont get it. It fights like a fixed wing aircraft, why not just have a fixed wing aircraft? Im sure they could purchase some old A10s from the US. Would be pretty neat seeing an iron cross on the warthog.
such a beautifull heli! it's faster than the apache, it can hold lots of crew, it's much more cheaper than an apache, it can also serve as an attack helicopter and it looks sexy as hell! ;D but so is the apache, the apache is better than the hind in some ways and the hind is better than the apache in other ways
if the tiger is well armored, this is inpenetrable. But like all aircraft: it only takes 1 good shot to bring them down. Nevertheless: this is a flying tank. Another advantage is that this thing can carry a few soldiers.
Its only drawback is its weight which makes it a little hard to manouvre.
historically old technology for the museum or for private collectors. Chopers that remind Russia of its affair in Afganistan. Nice historical value. Memories of the soviet union and its greatness.
now i have a quick question I've noticed that some models have a side mounted cannon and some have a turret mounted chaingun now is there a model that has both guns or no, "its a waste of bullets" kinda thing
Mi-24V has this chaingun as well, but from what I know modern Hinds have twin autocannon placed instead of 14.7 Yak-B to the right or under the fuselage.
I would be scared shitless if i saw one of them flying toward me, just its profile alone shows its not something you would wanna have to fight against
They did retire them. Some are in German and other aircraft museums now, while some were sold/donated to former Warsaw Pact countries (Hungary, Poland, Mazedonia etc.). I'm not sure but I think two of them are also used as OPFOR helicopters by the US military.

well the tiger is armored up to 23mm shilka bullets. you have to see its less armored space and more modern armor.
but yes this is the real flying fortress

Did the German Military Continue to fly the Hinds? or retire them?
lst1195 3 years ago
They did retire them. Some are in German and other aircraft museums now, while some were sold/donated to former Warsaw Pact countries (Hungary, Poland, Mazedonia etc.). I'm not sure but I think two of them are also used as OPFOR helicopters by the US military.
SpotterXY 3 years ago
What attack Chopper Did united Germany go with instead? BO-105? It's just hard to see the reasoning behind not keeping the MI-24
lst1195 3 years ago
I guess the Tiger was on the horizon and some other issues like further support with spareparts, integration of the weaponsystems etc.
It may also didn't fit to the "defensive" German Army doctrines. ;)
SpotterXY 3 years ago
Ah, I see.
Did they keep any of the Russian aircraft in opperation?

Yes, the Mig-29 for a longer time. You can find videos of them here, too. Just search for "German Mig-29".
SpotterXY 3 years ago 3

lst1195 3 years ago
@SpotterXY, that is right th e main reason was that the German military did not need an attack helicopter like the Hind. The issue of spare parts is valid too but to a lesser degree. putting behind the Comunist period also meant doing away with all reminders of it.
