  • Dolly does it! Sincere.

  • Dolly sings it with more heart and soul. I believe it when Dolly sings it. When Whitney sang it, it became just pretty words and an overkill.

Both are good mind you, but Dolly does it better.

  • whitney done a great job on this song thats probably the way most will remember ther and this song!!!!!!!!

  • on a technical point of singing, Whitney sings it better, but, Dolly's version has more heart.

  • dolly version is very lovely and sweet I like it but whitney packs a punch when she sings it

  • Linda Ronstadt's version is quite lovely, and that's the version the bodyguard executive's went with. Dolly made the song, Linda paved the way n whitney made it popular over powering the other versions, but i wouldnt say its the best they're all lovely in their own way

  • Wow!! Ryan Reynolds does look exactly like his daddy!

  • Dolly's version from '74 was the first one I heard, and I loved it. Then Whitney sang it almost 20 years later, and I loved it. A good song is a good song, no matter who sings it.

  • I like Linda Ronstadt's version..........but that's just me...

  • Doesn't matter who sings it..though I will Always love Dolly's version,,,but fact is Dolly gets 100% of the royalties nobody who sings it so it doesn't matter if Whitney sung it or if Whitney's version goes number one again...Dolly gets the money

  • Burt Reynold's mustache is the best thing about this video.

  • No need to argue about whose version is better; they are both good in their own right and both brought it to number. To cover a song isn't to steal a song. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I do agree about Kevin Costner's use of this song in the movie Body Guard. I had no idea the role he played in its use. Love Dolly's version, but I have always been a fan of country music. Love Whitney's version too; she really rocks this song. Linda Ronstadt's version is nice too. Look it up.

  • Welcome to our world! Plenty of our songs were stolen not just covered and the original artist and writers got neither credit nor royalties. And to add insult to injury the covered versions didn't even sound better than the originals in most cases. Get over it. Whitney's version is more acoustically pleasing and it was more marketable. Dolly cried at a Whitney perfomance of the song because her version gives EVERYONE the chills.

  • i love Dolly parton's breasts!

  • I know people have there opinions on who is there favorite, Dolly or Whitney, as for me, I just cant choose. Its like choosing what child you love most, you dont! You just love them in different ways. Both versions are beautiful and heartfelt. Dolly is amazing for writing this song and Kevin Costner had tremendous insight for choosing this song for The Bodyguard.

  • Whitney Houston's cover of this song was a great performance, but I like how heartfelt it sounds when Dolly sings it. It just sounds more genuine, and less manufactured.

  • "When I wrote that song I was able to put a little money in the bank. When Whitney recorded it,I was able to buy the bank” -Dolly Parton

  • Norm McDonald did the best Burt Reynolds impression ever.

  • Great info, but Dolly Parton wrote the song but wasn't the responsible for the success of the song, was Whitney, because many people hardly remember other versions of the song, and by the way, Whitney's was the best version.

  • @MawiLotion Really? She hit number one with this song twice and 10 years apart.

  • But without Dolly Parton this song will never exist at all!

  • Linda Ronstadt has a version of this song.

  • Dolly is some good looking gal who sings great, but I will always remember Whitney Houston singing this song.. RIP Whitney

  • Dolly was very sweet!!!!!

  • You know what... whether it is Dolly or Whitney both reditions were sung very well and appropriate for the time and movie they were used in.

I don't know why some of you have to get into pointless pissing contests about it. You look like idiots. Grow up.

  • Dolly sold this to several artists, and always said that she made enough from Whitney to start her wig business! I love all of the versions, it was truly a great song. Kudos to the writer, she wrote it as a parting gift to Porter Wagoner-not a love song, but a farewell my friend and professional mentor.

  • I prefer Whitney's..

  • I also love Linda Ronstadt's version a lot!

  • They are two different versions one is more country one is more soul and they are both comparable. For me being more soul, Whitney's is my favorite... but wouldn't exist if not for beautiful and talented Dolly. I've loved Dolly since Working Women. I used to watch it all the time when i was a little girl... on KCET :)

  • Whitney's version is good, but I love the wavering voice of Dolly in this version. This is the best version there is. :)

  • I like how Whitney sings this song, but Dolly made it better... I like tho think that the original's are the best anyways...

  • i may b the only 1 i know whitneys vocals are powerful in her rendition but dollys rendition moves me more i felt it

  • Classy

  • Dolly parton is hollywood and country music roylaty

  • Dolly sings it as it should be sung-as a sweet, sad, wistful tune, not a bombast. And as Dolly wrote it about her unhappy love for Porter Waggoner,it has real emotion in it.Much better than the Houston monstrosity.

  • Whitney Houston was good at this song, but Dolly is still #1 ..

When I saw the movie, after her singing & Burt carried her out,

I had to stand up & yell 'Yahoo' .. Loved This, Thank You For Posting

  • Dolly wrote this song in 1973 and 1st released it in 1974.

  • @MjrTom2009 Thanks for the information. I will put it on my video.

  • wich movie is this

  • @blondje82 The name of the film is The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Thanks for watching

  • I love dolly and her singing the song instead of withney but..........she is way out of tune at the begining of this one.

  • @contact1araya

she's not out of tune at the start, what are you talking about?

  • @contact1araya She is not out of tune at the begining, She is trying not to cry as she sings it, and I agree she sings it far better than Whitney.

  • OMG dolly parton sings this way beter than That psyco girl

  • @LeoCouzineauMusic . And, as I mentioned on my video, she sang ten years before Whitney. She is by far better.

  • @Eu4279 yall dont kno music whitney was way better and @LeoCouzineauMusic she wasnt psyco u both r psyco for thinkin this is better than whitney

  • @Eu4279 it is good but whitny perfected the song.

  • @LeoCouzineauMusic Love your comment! haha, I hate Whitney fans. they're so stupid, but enough about that washed up singer. Dolly, nobody can touch her.

  • @Themusicvidsandrants lmao yo really replying a comment from a year ago? pressed much?

  • Much much better that Whitney's

  • lovely...thank you......

  • You're right. Dolly Parton sings this song even better than Whitney Houston. It is incredible that Whtney sang it ten years later and acted as if she had been the first to record it.
