  • i always loved doing the yellow belt form.

  • why do they do it 2 at a time? cos theres so many of em?

  • I'm not a martial arts follower, but I'm interested in how this type of competition actually works, how come there was no contact?

  • Forms is one aspect of the sport. Sparring is the contact part of the sport. Maybe someone can explain this better than I can but you can compete in forms, sparring and board breaking. This is the form.

  • oh, so she was the champion based on her moves that she performed in front of the judges. Was she the champion in her age group or the whole thing?

  • She was grand champion for the tournament for her age group.

  • Great job Niki!~ Great form!

  • Congrats to Niki-Lynn!

  • Thank you!

  • My brother is doing Takwondo as well ;)

  • Does he like it?

  • Yes, i think so.. But their club has almost never got competitions, it's a kind of weird, so I've never really seen him doing Takwondo, even though he has done it for 2 years..

  • People will differ on this but I think confidence is a huge part when facing an opponent in the street or a trial in life. Most fights I've seen are won before they start simply based on strength of character or chi energy or fighting spirit. Technique is nothing without it. Trophies help build this in children but granted it is only the start

  • Concur. It builds confidence and helps keep their interest until they really begin to learn. It takes a lot of discipline and hard work to do this at a high level.

  • Ooooo forms, or Kata as we call it, is my specialty! lol I really want to post a video of some of my Kata's but I think the only videos I have are on VCR and I don't know how t0 convert them and all!

    Anyway great job! :-)

  • Send me a message, I might be able to help you out.

  • tae kwon do = take my dough

  • That's funny.

  • Do you TKD?

  • i mean no disrespect but my son did it for 2 yrs and my daufgter for 1. it was a constatnt buying of belts and trophies. trophies for what? memorizing a form? i will always say that they do learn how to kick there though. it's a start.

  • i should have spell checked. now i really sounded like an idiot on my last message. getting back to what i was saying. tkd is a great place to learn how to kick as a start to go to other forms of mma (mixed martial arts, i.e. kick boxing, juijitsu) our school had no contact so i felt the kids were getting a false sense of achievment and very little if any self defense. a lot of time goes into it that could better be used someplace else. your kid is good on the mat and bars though. best of luck!

  • No offense taken. It's a sport. I agree, some schools are a rip off. If the kids aren't allowed to have any contact then why do a martial art? Their instructor has coached a couple of Olympians and other high level students and specializes in Olympic style WTF TKD. It takes a while to effectively learn how to spar with success but the building blocks are being put into place.
