  • could they had at least found someone that could speak clearly about the process....

  • i dont get the arguing, but people wear dreads for all kinds of reasons all over the world, rasta's rock dreads because "we were created in the lords image, there were no combs or brushes in the begining" right. Celtic warriors wore dreads, vikings, people all over india, new zealand, asia, theres a reason, its not a black or white thing, its a human being thing, and they look cool

  • yo man this is a black thang haa

  • FUCK ADS!

  • What is good for our hair looks like total damage to that lady.

  • the way she's doing that is how to make synthetic dreads back combing breaks hair and flat ironing it will further damage the hair...this shouldn't be called expert village since they don't know shit

  • amen snoogens5446 sike

  • start dreadlocks with greasy hair!

the oils and residues help it knot up.

DON'T BOTHER MAKING THEM NICE PRETTY AND SILKY AND ALL THAT BULLSHIT. LEAVE YOUR HAIR NATURAL, NATURAL IS BEST!

    Many Blessings,

    Cinnamonslices

  • wikked vid

gonna grow my hair for two years its around 3-4 inches long now and then im gonna try to make them into dreads after growing for 6-7 months then after two years see the result :) should be fun. thanks for the vid.

  • Very glad i found an african hair stylist who did everything naturally, no rubber bands no wax

  • this i what white people have to do to get dreads, black people dont have to destroy their hair, they just get it twisted and wait a few months and dats it

  • all white people have to do to get them is stop combing their hair, and eventually dreads will form

  • Don't use wax or rubber bands.

  • i got dreads by have a shower and messing my hair up with a towel really fast after a while it gets nots and matted then after a month it turned into dreads

  • hahah wow, really? i've been doing that recently, and decided not to take the matted nots out for the last 2 days, because they looked and felt like the start of mini dreads, maybe ill keep going if what you say is true?? did you keep using normal shampoo etc??

  • My sister did mine and i payed her in cigarettes!

  • @horacioabraham lololol

  • her hair is gonna take forever to lock..but it will still lock

  • hey i have dreads!!

  • I'm doing em myself, couple of hours yesterday (sectioning w/ 2 mirrors, took a long time) and gonna finish it today.

It does take a long time, but u don't need someone to help u persé. It's worth it.

I'm just backcombing it, finish w/ cr.hook and when it's done I'll might use a little wax to handrub em. so no chems or lock peppa.

    lol @ paying w/ cigarettes.

  • dont use wax go to a hair store and get twist and lock gel it washes out and is more natural it dont feel nasty neather. youll like it a lot better than wax

  • kool imma start mine right now.......:)

  • I want dreads cause i hate piking my hair! But idk how they would look like when they start out. click on my profile an look at my jerkin video an look at my afro. tell me if i should get dreads

  • if u want them get them dont worry about what other people say every one told me not to but i did and i love them. and it dont matter what kind of hair u got ...... they do look like a mess at first but then they get good

  • you know?

  • sterreotypee for white locs is usually they smoke a shit load of weed

  • i dont know if its me but i feel dreadlocks are kind of a jamaician thing,it kinda dosent work for whites

  • dreads have been in every culture ever sence people had hair... so thousands of years. and every ones hair naturally dreads even without backcombing. don't brush your hair for a few months c what happens lol all it takes is time and keep them cleen

  • yes dreads have been in most cultures but im not talking about thousands of years ago,the rasta jamaicans are one of the only current religion/cultures to have used and worn dreadlocks till this current day.

  • ever country still has them its just most known in Jamaica but it shouldn't be about race,.... and there are white rasta's "not me" but a lot of times part of being rasta is the dreads they look good on every one white black asian purple " yes even barney looks good with them "

  • Even Jabba the Hut looks good with dreadlocks...obviously. ;)

  • dreadlock expert? you mean such people really exist?

  • she would not do my locks how her shit looks hell no or if thats what she choose who knows but hell no

  • I use only nattural products for my locks. Btw, never use dreadlock wax.

  • what the hell is she doing??lol..i had locs for 2 years til i cut them..i didnt back comb anything!all you have to do is twist it..you can use gel and beeswax depending on how clean you want to keep your hair.or you can use shea butter and honey or you could go natural or start from double strand but all that back twisting is really not necessary.

  • holy fuck, if you want dreads just grow your hair out, dont comb it, and dont use any shampoo with residue. your hair with eventually mat (yeah it takes time, but true dreads do) and after 8-10 months they will start to look really good. back combing works, but its too much hassle. everyone knows that you shouldnt touch dreadwax.

  • 1. wax repels water so DO NOT put it in your hair it will be difficult to keep your locs clean

    2. she should not be giving advice on locs when her own are so ratty

    3.

dtownklown07 its pretty much the same for our hair as white people its just quicker and easyer

    4. dont over back comb because when the new growth comes through there will be a drastic change in thickness as the new hair doesnt lock as thickly

  • Why is she doing the affer to make the vid if she is allready that sure whe know....you know?

  • no offense, but im a black american ( i dont know any africans from the motherland) and i want to see someone do this loc'ing on kinky hair of ppl of color if you can. no offense, its just that these vids arent helping me much. my hair is curly and around 2.5-3 inches long and maybe 1.5 in the back on the bottom. i started from a tapered fade and so it'll grow like that. Please try to do a kinky vid. Thanks

  • you want your hair to be atleast 4 inches or longer to start your dreads

  • locks are a lifstyle not a hairstyle get of the commercial bullshit!!!

  • There is nothing to dread about locs. Please stop calling them dreadlocs. There called "LOCS". That term "Dreadlocks" is a racially degrating term used by whites in the context of "look at those dreadful locs" There nothing to dread about "locs". Jesus had hair of locs not hair of dread locs. Change the title please, uneducated people are watching, its sends the wrong message to a community who is still learning to be proud of itself.

  • Actually, BLACKXV, the term 'dreadlock' comes from rastas showing society that they were only God fearing people. and the the fact of you bringing up race in a dreadlock discussion, only furthers unity of all races. all types of hair will naturally dread, black white, eskimo, egyptian. ANd we are all africans, whether you worship God or Darwin, whether the pigments in your skin make you the darkest of the black, or the palest of white. Dont preach to the uneducated unless your educated

  • That's like the best thing i read the past 2hours....

But euh... will they naturally dread 'nice' of becoming one big knot??

I want dreads but i don't want them the fast and expensive babylon way.......

  • @BLACKXV I'm glad you know the truth and whoever said you're wrong about the term dreadlock needs to look up the history of a the loc. I agree, there is NOTHING dreadful about a loc.

  • ya know

  • you know you know hah I don't know XD

  • Thnx 4 the tips. My dreads are in infancy stage now. About 4 months old. What products do you recommend I use for growth and maintaining dreads?

  • just let them do what they would do naturally. never use wax it can cause mold. and you dont want to use conditioner either because its mean to make hair smooth and get out knots. just palm roll them every other day and mess around with them and make them all nice when your bored and they should turn out great.

  • what would they do naturally??? i want to let hem come naturally but i think it is going to be one big knot instead of the sepperated knots

  • you just gotta palm roll them every day. trust me on this.

  • natural dreads are how alot of people do it. wash your hair 2-3 times a week and DO NOT use any shampoo's with residue. do not comb or run fingers through your hair at all, and just let your hair do its thing. it takes forever, but thats what dreads are about; patience.

  • i used to have dreadlocks before i cut them..i did the natural thing too..they wont knot as long as you keep them seperate..you could twist them every now and again to make sure they dont get stuck 2gether n one big knot

  • dread wax is bad for your dreads if you put alot, im going to agree with bassplayer on this one, but most people REALLY overkill on the wax and it is hard to get the wax out once youve gobbed it on there like an idiot

  • you know....

  • Cool lady!

  • what i thought she was a fat man ? Lol

  • she keeps saying "you know"..

...actuallly Nah Mon, I don't know, Thats why I am watching you!

  • wow lol i was just about to say that lol

  • @MaxeneTommy hahahahahahaa

  • the method she uses can actually break ur hair and split ur hair shafts... i wouldnt advise this to anyone

  • people always crying bout wax.. aint nothing wrong with it.. just dont put alot, evenly spread it, and wash your hair good when its time,.. and use bakin soda and viniger

  • oooo nnoo.

  • i had locks for a tiny while n this seems a extreamly long process, not backcombing, but this advise, n id say natural dreads look better too... just my oppinion though, all to there own

  • I've got naturals and they take fucking AGES and more maintenance than man-made. Like keeping the roots corrupted is impossible for the first few years.

  • La playa... el agua salada es lo mejor para los dreadlocks, se ponen bonitos

  • i dont agree to her method..:)

  • eeeh, iv had my dreads for about 4 months :)

    i did them myself :D

  • I'm on my third set of dreads since 1992, and have never used wax. Dr. Bronner's is good to wash them with.

  • NOOOOOOO WAX EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Don't use wax. It'll harden and become impossible to remove after it turns into a solid form right in the center of each of your dreads. And it'll force you to cut your dreads, and restart. No wax. Just natural vegetable-based shampoos and lots of time.

  • I use wax in mine, I have had no problems. The wax is thinly spread and easily kept soft at room temperature. Wax is 100% fine to put in your hair, as long as you don't put in too much, and you buy some good wax, try dreadhq, knottyboy or find some Dr. Brauners products.

  • i was told not to put wax in my locs but to use aloe, its natural, and it doesnt leave build up. also, it doesnt make your hair brittle.

  • Even some products don't work well on black hair (course, curly, dry, and kinky). I am going to try to interlock his hair without the product (wax)or even backcombing. I will keep a diary and share with you all.

  • just use salt water.

  • This conversation is a realistic one. I am black and have locks. I use various types of products for my hair. I will start working with my first straight haired client who is mexican... I am so against the wax! It made his hair feel slick and gummy. I know in the long run this will F.... up his hair and break it off. My problem is looking for someone who can give me good advice on this. I find that people are aruging about color and hair texture. What works for one does not always work for

  • What the fuck,I'm white and I hear we need a lot of wax? Then my buddie who is black and already has bad ass dreads say's to use nothing?I have straight ass fucking hair that don't want to loc, wont stay twisted!!Please anyone, how do I get my hair to lock?HELP

  • man..... well check it out im hispanic, and honestly the best way to go is neglecting or, backcombing, lately if been thinking of the salt water but im not really sure, im going to see what keeps happening to my hair....

  • Wax, shea butter, any of these things cause nasty buildup that will make your hair brittle, and unattractively full of lint and dirt over time. This I am specifically speaking toward African hair. As locs mature, you will want to be at a point where you actually don't need anything but a palmroll to keep up the maintenance. If you are particularly anal about your parts, then nothing more than some aloe vera gel and nature's blessing-anything that will wash out easily and condition your hair.

  • if u black don;t put wax n your dread if white yeah u need a lot

  • I'm black and I use wax in my hair. It has been very good to my hair, I don't have any breakage, and my hair isn't brittle or dry from it. I just celebrated my first dread loc anniversary today, and I highly endorse ppl to use wax for thier locs.

  • dreadlocks dont take wax... they take time ..

i never used nothing on mine and they are beatifull and perfect.. just dont wash like for 2 months and than wash like twice a week.. and grab a needle and put the hair back into the dreads

  • sorry but i find that disgusting. It mau work with european hair, however with african hair you can was it once every 3-4 days and it will have locked up within two months. with african hair it actually locks quicker if you clean it well, as leaving it to gather dirt and grime, retards growth and can cause scalp problems. hotep

  • Exactly!!! Clean hair locs much better than dirty hair regardless of ethnicity. And clean hair shows that you have much better hygeine as well which is always a plus

  • Yes, clean hair makes it lock better because it doesnt have any oils or whatever in it. and moisture wouldnt help it lock.

  • the reason you should use a good wax on caucasion hair, is because you cant use conditioner and your hair will dry out. It replenishes nutrients to the hair.

  • can some1 help me please? 3 days ago i got dreadlocks done, i didn touch em, i didnt wash em yet but already alot of hair is coming out throughout the whole lenght but mostly at the scalp. also the dreads are slowly loosening up and im scared that within a few weeks i will look like a big fur ball. im trying the croshet needle thingy but the hair just pops back out. any TIPS? should i buy wax? how to apply it? how to was em? what should i do to keep them looking cool

  • what you should do, is get some dread wax and palm roll them.

  • is it possible to dread the hair without the wax???

  • yea but its gona look like shit though, literately. and the process will be a little different depending on your race and or hair grain also. but i wud prefer the wax way trust me! i dont know u know or not but its not really wax, its like grease. if u dont want to do it de wax way, then u cud also use a gel thats made jus 4 dreading. i think the gel is betta 4white or like non curly type hair. anyways hope this help towards ya goal.

  • Never us wax its bad for ur hair and ull have better dreads if let it do it naturally. just dont comb ur hair ever dont mess with it and just let it do its thing

  • How long have you had your dreads? i've only had mine(dreads) in 4 about 5 months. i've been buying the shampoo from a website made just for dreads. They told me that its good to use the wax when their imature, and switch to a dread spray conditioner when they grow longer.. is this false? i mean my dreads are comming along nice rite now but i don't want them to break off in the long run. and also i don't want the dirty, don't do anything to them kind of dreads eitheir. if u have any other advice

  • 4 me please hit me back with some dreadful wisdom.. RESPECT MA YOUTH! haha

  • i have never used wax in my dreads

  • what a dumb ass you're not suppose to wash your hair before u get it done it can't be "freshly washed hair" it wont work as well -_-

  • its easier to back comb smooth washed hair than greasy hair.. and if you don't put wax in your hair locks up naturally with its own grease.. i did my dreads with nothin but a metal comb and a crochet hook..

    don't use wax kids

  • NO WAX

    NO WAX

  • I heard that if you were starting for the first time, then you would use a locking creme oppose to wax.

  • what size did you seperate your hair into, like I know in the video you said like 1x1. did you do yours this way because I like the size of your dreads.

  • She probably did hers with about 1.5x1.5

Looks about that size to me

  • hi what for you have bondage on you dreads in?

  • worst tutorial ever. you arent supposed to use wax at all it keeps your hair from tangling and you didnt even show a person getting it done! I give it an F-

  • you, my friend, must no nothing about dreadlocks.

  • In fact, there are many ways of dread locking.... Using wax is just one of them, and In my opinion, is the best one, because the first day you get you dreads they already look relatively ok..

  • relatively ok? If you are worried about how neat they look you should think about a different hairstyle.

  • I meant that if someone wants their dreads to look fine the first day they get it, they can use wax to keep them together... I dont see anything wrong in using wax, exept the fact that the first layer will remain in there forever..

And yes, I am worried about how good they will look. It doesnt make any sense to get dreads if you dont care if they look ok or not..

  • the first layer wont stay there forever what the hell? if you WASH it out you should be fine. I didnt say you had to care wether they look good or not i was just saying they will be messy for the first few months or even longer so if you care that much about keeping them perfect then dreads are not for you.

  • It does stay there and it is extremely hard to get out... I heard boiling water works very good though... And, if Im not wrong, you said, and I quote: "If you are worried about how neat they look you should think about a different hairstyle." So ya, you kind of said one should not care if they look good or not...

Lets just stop this useless rant... You are just one of those 14 year olds that look who to flame over the internet to feel "powerful" or important...

  • no i said what i typed. Neat. I meant that they wouldnt be neat in other words they would be messy for awhile. Some people might think that looks good and then again some people dont. Oh and by the way i am a 24 year old who has dreads so i think i know what im talking about.

  • And that was what I meant with my first post... I was not saying that you where wrong, I was just saying that IN MY OPINION using wax was the best method..

Whatever, lets just end this, it serves no purpose.

  • Wax is wonderful if you want to look like a candle factory in a few months. Chunks of wax falling out of your hair makes a great conversation piece.

  • I have heard that, but arent there special waxes, like for example "Knotty Boys", that are supposed to prevent that effect??

  • All wax will stay in your hair until melted out. It rejects water, so no matter how much you wash, unless you use boiling water it just won't come out.

The best way I've seen to take care of messy hair is to pull it in with a crochet needle. The only problem here is that it would be difficult to do yourself I'm sure.

  • So, what can you use instead of wax?

Do you still use the backcomb-twist-palmroll way, or is there another way when not using wax?

  • wax is good for the initial dreading prcess as young dreadlocks tend to be uncooperative and will losen themselves if slept on etc, knotty boy make a locksteady tightening gel with is also good, i wouldnt recomment any product use after 6 months though.

  • Thats very good to know, tanks. I hope to start my dreading process in about 4-5 months, as I still have to wait a little for my hair to grow. I decided to grow dreads when I had a half centimeter haircut lol.

  • Wax is a fine method i find, ive only had mym dreads for a few weeks and are havin a bit of trouble knotting them up properly, but the wax washes out easily. Just get your hands on some shampoo that removes residues and it strips wax rite out

  • Excuse for coming off ignorant but im tired of seeing tutorials of white people dreading their hair, can i get sumone my skin color, i mean we do have different textured hair

  • i just got my dreads, and but im not quite sure about something, will the dreads keep growing or will i need to dread the new hair?

i'm not sure how i got them done :P but it wasnt backcombing, they kinda rubbed the hair with their hands and pulled it or something like that.

  • ya know

  • how the fuck am i suppost see what your doin' when the camera man is standin' in the onther side of the room

  • anyone know where i can get some beeswax?

  • any african hair store

  • racist

  • why?

  • hey eyechrist dis is my 2nd time growing my dreads they used to be down a lil bit passed my shoulder then i cut dem off nowi grew them again there about 3 inches but the lady who used to do my hair used beez wax the worst wut i did wuz bought a aloe plant cut the jell middle out and stir it in a cup and used dat in replace to da wax my dreads are awesome maybe ill put dem on youtube

  • Honestly you're not clever to be insulting.

  • she/he sais ya yo 2 much ggrrr...

  • hey i have a question like is it easy to get dreds im working on mine my hair is about 3 inches past my shoulder but does your hair get shorter as you get dred locks?

  • i wanna know this aswell

  • you can use jamaican mango and lime products...really good for locs and twist.

  • awesome! I also heard buying aloe in plant form is great for locks too. :-)

  • Yea, any form of pure aloe is good, you can get it from the pharmaceutical section in wal-mart/kmart, whatever store you choose....but please, no wax!

  • I couldn't agree with you any more...applying wax the first time was the biggest mistake ever. then I combed/conditioned it out, started all over, now the wax thing is history.

  • your hair should be a lest 3 inches to start dreadlocks

mine was about 6 inches soo i was goooood

  • ive heard wax is rly good for making dreads mate.. ive read a lot at the knottyboy website.. and sounds like its quite good :).. isnt that true or ?. i soon gonna make them but shouldnt i buy the wax??
