@GoPensGo377 no hes on teams with rookie defenders. They wouldn't let the opposing team get good angles in on him. He's still a good goalie but i do agree his skill had dropped significantly he needs his mojo back.
I wonder how things would have turned out if the Ducks had played the Canucks in this round. If it weren't for that sack of crap Dan Cloutier, the Canucks would have beat the Wild in 5.
As a Phoenix Coyotes fan.....this here is the single greatest Cinderella run in NHL history. Sweep the mighty Detroit Red Wings? Knock out the #1 seed Stars in 6? Sweep the team that beat perennial powerhouse Colorado and high-powered Vancouver allowing just a single goal? Push the Devils all the way to the seventh game?
It's a shame these guys didn't win. Sure, they won in 2007, but they were heavily favored by many to win it once Pronger showed up. Not a soul picked these guys.
As a wild fan I was rooting for the Ducks in the finals when they played the Devils. I remember that playoff season all to well. Epic run by the Ducks.
I'd love to know what Babcock had to say to Lemaire on that handshake. Lemaire looked genuinely happy for Babcock even though his team had just suffered one of (if not the) most one-sided series losses in history.
@hornschamps07 What the hell are you talking about, they took "your" Devils to 7 games. They were great through that entire run, so much so that Giguere still won the Conn Smyth trophy even though they lost.
Even though the wild lost, I was still very proud of my team. Not bad for a third year expansion =D. Esp. the two comebacks being down 3-1 in the series, boy it was a great playoff!
Well, they intentionally reffed against the Canucks because they needed to have the game expand in California, who would you rather of had the Ducks face, the Wild who had limited skill up front, or the Canucks who had a hell of a scary first line and the Sedin twins with the lucky bastard who played on that line.
@chrisuncleahmad Wild were NOT a one-hit wonder, the next year they focused on becoming younger and faster and thus sacrificed a playoff spot. Now, they are in the playoff race every year.
The 2003 Mighty Ducks playoff run is epic, this is not going to happen for years to come, sweeping the Red Wings, beating #1 seed Dallas, and allowing one goal in 4 games against the Wild and Anaheim being seeded as 7th. Plus Giguere's epic playoff performance, won't see that kind of Giguere for a while.
@chemicalculus Definitely. I was every bit as proud of this team as I was of the '06-'07 team. Jiggy had 2 of the greatest post season performances ever by a goalie.
@chemicalculus wer're not going to see that gigure again i think...Toronto is still rebuilding and if he stays there (which it looks like he will) he eneds to wait at least 2 years before he can think about the playoffs. 1 thing about gigure though i've never seen him have an average playoffs. Hes' either had a great playoffs are good playoffs. Obviously the only year he had a good playoffs was the year dallas knocked them out a year after winning the cup in round 1 but gigure sitll did good
this was a great post season. ducks going to the finals, beating the WILD in western conference final. and just shy of the cup. i perfere this duck team over the one that won it because they played the devils in the finals not ottawa. NJD had more finals experience than ottawa. i hope kariya goes back to anahime and finishes his career.
as a red wing fan for 20 years this duck team would have beaten anyone in the west.
I agree Mike Babcock is a good coach, I watched all through out the Stanley Cup Finals last year against the Red Wings and he completly outcoached Michel Therrien
As a Wild fan, the 2002-03 Ducks were a very respectable team. They creamed us in that series, but did it in a sportsmanlike way. Nowadays, the Ducks are just a bunch of punk thugs, with a bigger punk thug as their coach, Carlysle.
That '03 Ducks team took EVERYBODY by suprise in the playoffs; we knew they were a very good team going in, but sweep Detroit?? Beat Dallas?? Allow 1 goal against vs Minnesota?? Took the Devils to Game 7?? No way anyone could've predicted it.
Ducks would fall short of the Cup in '03, but went all the way in 2007...
@ckendall67 As a hockey fan I jumped aboard the Ducks train that year in the playoffs. What a fun, exciting ride it was for that team. Jean-Sebastian Gigure was a beast that year in the playoffs and I don't know if anyone had a better playoff run as he did.
How improbable this matchup was and it intrigued me. How the heck is is five years ago already?! My sophomore year in high school. My goodness! I remember it like it was yesterday.
Those good days for the Mighty Ducks. That fascinates me that the fact that the Mighty Ducks wiped out Detroit, Dallas, and Minnesota but they fell short against New Jersey.
new jersey was really good that year too, brodeur is hard to beat too. ducks played fine against the devils only the devils have more home games to play.

I have always wondered how Giguere would have done had it been a Vancouver/Anaheim West Final.
Given the way Giguere played that spring, it would have been fun to see Giguere vs. the West Coast Express instead of the one-hit wonder Wild.
(Since then, Anaheim and Giguere have won a Cup)

lol i guess they ran out of energy from scoring 16 goals in 3 games against Vancouver in the previous series
TheLoserSakaCanucks 3 years ago
Two reasons:
1)The Wild had no energy as they had to come back from two 3-1 deficits.
2)Giguere was a brick wall.

lol. i totally agree with #2. In 2003 no 1 cud do anything on Giguere
