yeh they probably are nice bell ringers not so nice when they wake you up at stupid o'clock with a hangover, and what's that bell ringing practice they have, whats that about you dont exactly forget how to ring a bell do you?

I have stood in a bell chamber and stood next to a tenor ringing! - And also stood right under one of the quarter bells in the westminster clock tower (where big ben is)

so have I and I actually think change ringing bells sound louder stood beside than Big bens bells.

Now Bodgers become a man and go up to the belfry next time and have a good look from the doorway. ;) lol

True - Big Ben is definitely quieter probably bcoz it is being chimed on the outside + I would think that chane ringing bells clappers would hit the bell harder producing a louder sound

Yes, ultimatly because they are being chimed by hammers they are quieter, where as change ringing bells swing on average at like 60 mph so the force of the strike is much greater.

I didn't think bells were that fast! Some people don't realise really how powerful and dangerous bells can be if not handled properly...

No but close enough, ive been up there while they were ringing.

Wear ear muffs if it bothers you that much they still clear but you can listen to them with no ear muffs as long as just for short time, a min or two won't hurt you.

as a ringer, it's always been one of those things I've always wanted to do. besides ringing at Liverpool cathedral though watching there bells up close would be something to tell the grandkids lol!

The heaviest bells i've rung though are at york minster, and IMO theres no better sounding ring than those.

no you're right. I tried to film big ben striking three stood right outdside it, you couldn't hear it that much and so the camera didn't pick up any sound. I'll upload it onto youtube if you want. You can hear all the westminster clock chimes including big ben from the cafe like half a mile away, they sound better there.
