  • this doesnt work. idk if its cuz its on beta and im obviously not but at the very end of the video i press on the value type and the box is VERY different. theres no list of units, the only thing is listed is the builder cuz i placed him on the map. theres no way to select a generic type of unit

  • @Superclam1 Find my photon cannon duplication tutorial on my page... going through that will clear up how to do it properly. I made this soooo long ago so I had some mistakes.

    I don't know if you'll ever respond to this, but after following what you did exactly, my photon cannons don't fire. They make firing animations, but there is no "electric ball" I made the actors the (not basic cannon, but) Power Cannon's and such and blah blah, but it still refuses to fire anything. It also does no damage, because the ball is non-existent.

  • i tried making the wave type type (0) and all it says is builder, i try to change unit type but all i can do is "any unit" or select "any item" but it soesnt show up all the units like you have

  • @lilpanagos07 Make sure the variable is of type "Unit Type" and not "Unit"

  • Im having problems finding the repair rescorce... does it have another name in the latest version of the map editor?

  • It is proper confusing with the Photon Cannon and Basic Cannon... I've just watched you change the cost of a Photon Cannon, while we're working on a unit called Basic Cannon. I'm confused! >.< So frustrating, especially if it takes you several seconds to go from your data editor onto your youtube screen, like it does for me, cause my computer is outdated. Grr! Rage!!!

  • One thing to add. If you set the mineral cost of your Basic Cannon to 1 in the info section of your build ability AND set the cost on your Basic Cannon to 1 as well (as explained in the video), your tower will cost 2 minerals.

    So decide whether you want to set the cost from the Build Info, or the Cannon settings.

  • @d3agl3uk Actually, only use the cost in the unit now (as of release sc2). The cost in the build ability should be ignored unless you're doing upgrades or research abilities.

  • So i just wasted and hour on this cus ther is nothing called Warp in photon cannon.

  • Your videos are great! Keep it up. I am having a small problem though. In the data editor, I made the basic cannon, but for some reason it has no actor. It has actors for attacking and stuff, but no actor for just standing there. Please help, thanks.

  • @stvn0988 Look at my latest duplication tutorial on my channel. Your cannon will be much better functioning and then you can return to this tutorial. My new one was done on release editor too!

  • My custom buttons wont show, dont know why ive added abilities on heros and all that before..

  • I tried duplicating a ghost once in the official version of the editor and got a big dome instead of the actual ghost. I checked everything off and I never added any abilities to the ghost. Does someone know what is wrong?

  • @JWH741 In the Actors tab... find your ghost copy or w/e you named it... and see the field Art - Model. Should be set to Ghost and not blank.

  • I make the Wave Types Variable, and then i make the action with the variable set as wave types, but when i click on value, to set the unit, i dont get that list with all the units, instead i get this white box with the only unit i can select is the builder i made? any solution you can think of

  • @blindpheonix12 What is the type of your variable? Wave Types should be a "Unit Type" variable (array of course).

    JK yeah I'll do a new tower defense eventually. These are the hardest tutorials to make though... so going to take some time.

  • hey afther compleating data should your tower be able to shot? becos my aint shooting i mean reveals him self for 1s if he shots from uphill to me so he shoots but ther is no projectil and no dmg

    hey... i get stuck at the copying the 2 tower things to make shooting the bullet not blank up... but i cant find the same thing your at? you on abilitys or actors? and what did you put int he search bar o-o even in HD i cannot see

  • StarCraft II's editor is amazingly user friendly compared to other editors in terms of what you can do... you can effectively make your own game without using code! The problem is, there's a bunch of parameters one must stort thru to understand the data and trigger editors.

  • I was looking forever in the new map editor for the full version of the game for repair resource and eventually figured out it was called cost now :P

  • i have followed tutorial to video 4 then i decided to check progress and my builder's Warp in Structure ability isnt there, i messed around and when i set the button to command card 1 instead of 2, it shows up in the builder. I cant seem to figure this out

  • EDIT : ok i went further in the tutorial and saw u fix ur mistake about the command card so i got that working. Now im having trouble with my cannon. When i build it, it looks fine but soon as i order it to attack something.. it shoots but nothing comes out and a

    (white ball) appears in the middle of it.

  • hey. this is a really good tutorial. im making a map myself (Not a Tower Defence) just a custom map. I was very good with Starcraft's Map Editor, but Starcraft 2's triggers are very confusing for me. If I have questions in the future, could i message you?

  • so i fixed the builder. But now my basic cannon shoots but wont show a projectile, does no damage, and once the first attack shoots a White Ball appears in the middle of my cannon.

  • ugh, I followed all parts of this tutorial, but I've run into only 1 problem. I can build my cannon just fine, models are correct, but for some reason, it won't shoot. The little head thing on the cannon sways back and forth as if it's shooting, but nothing comes out and no enemies get damaged. I think all my actors are correct..

  • @XDarKMogX Do you have an actor for the photon cannon's attack? For its missile as well? Is the mover set properly? I would look at what the original photon cannon has and make sure all your fields are appropriately set. (Weapon, Mover, Unit (for its missile), attack actor, missile actor, turret, launch missile effect, and damage effect)

  • @OneTwoSC I think all my actors are named Photon Cannon Copy, or something of the sort. Could I send you what I've done so far? I've looked at it many times and still can't find the issue...

  • You kinda walked right past me when your thing about actors. I understand that the actor gives it the action effects but while following you i had no idea what you were doing and why you were doing it. By chance do you know of any good tutorials on how to edit actors? Like making a probe shoot out a bolt of achon lightning instead of his normal attack or having a missile look like a baneling instead. I'm lost here.

  • @GKCanman Yeah I sort of assumed people were more experienced to be making this map... I should have intro'd it better... definitely check out SC2Mapster website... lots of tutorials on forums.

  • @Nicklaspm Answer to 1: not an extra one. Answer to 2: I wouldn't think it's condoned but I assume there is some magical way out there to do it.

  • Great video I got the jest of it but I cant seem to get the Missile turret to Turn. There are only the facing values and turning radius but I cant seem to find the mechanic that allows the Turret to rotate freely.

  • @sorynbeta You mean the Terran missile turret? Since I haven't tested that model/unit, I'd recommend copying it and then making it attack ground... then search actors and turrets for anything with missile turret and make sure theyre linked to your unit... that's all I can offer on this :D

  • how do I change the cost of a building like a pylon and make it FREE?

  • @haji770 Go into the ability "Probe - build (probe)" or something like that... then double click Info+ and look for Warp in Pylon in the popup list. Double click it and then in the subsequent window, scroll down to mineral cost and set it to 0. You can see how I do this (sort of) around 5:15-5:35
