  • You. Make me happy. <3. :3

  • Are you really angry that the word 'gay' is now used as something negative? words in languages change meaning a lot. In fact 'gay' used to be mean 'happy' but hardly anyone thinks 'happy' when they hear the word gay, they think of a sexual orientation. Words change, get used to it.

  • @TheRakbar This is obviously an exaggeration for comic effect. And are you really angry that someone is annoyed by people who use a phrase that is obviously a reference to a minority group? If so, you need to get used to it.

Also, you seem like a jerk.

  • THAT WAS BALLS DEEP IN THE BUTT GAY

  • ha ha ha ha that's great! lol.

  • I'm gay and I think that IS so gay... sorry! BUT IT TIS MISSY!

  • Love it :)

  • LOL! :D

  • Using the word, gay, as a way to convey a message of negativity, is perfectly fine. It's associated that way because a penis in your rectum is usualy a negative thing,...unless you're gay. I doubt this trend will subside. Sorry Mary.

  • I've accidentally done this in front of my gay friend and I felt horrible, which I should. I can't believe that I've let modern culture socialize that to the point where I used that phrase.

  • I act like people never said it just like when someone uses the N word around me I simply act like I never heard it because its a waste of my time to react on something so little as a word.

  • But y'all took "gay" away from the old timers who used to use it to mean "carefree and happy", who it was also taken from by people who started using it to mean "uncool and corny", because uncool and corny people used it to mean "carefree and happy", so WTF?!?

  • @ttaz4dqm You're not very informed about the history and etymology of the word "gay," are you? The word comes from Latin, from Gaius Caesar (Gay is also the English version of the Roman name Gaius), and was originally used to describe wanton sexual acts. It eventually lost its negative connotation and just became a euphemism for "homosexual," entering the common lexicon in the late 1960s.

  • @ghenulo The word does NOT originate from the name Giaus Ceasar. He is just the most famous with that name.It does originate from Gaius \gaius\ as a boy's name. Latin origin, meaning "happy". Probably the root of the word "gay", which USED to mean "jolly".

  • @citizeniam additionally Term, Gay Nineties, used in 1920s (USA) refers to decadent decade of 1890s when authors, playwrights described luxury, wealth, and opulence of high life of the "old money" families. gay as referenced to homosexuals only MINIMAL usage since late 1800's (i.e trial of Oscar Wilde, etc); has only been in COMMON usage since the 1960's.

  • @citizeniam LOL, I was just wondering if I could BS someone :) But seriously, the sense of "homosexual" is fairly international; many, many languages use the word (or an assimilated variant thereof) in their native vocabulary. The same isn't true of the sense of "jolly."

Language evolution happens all the time. I don't know why so many people get their panties in a bunch over this particular word.

  • I say: "And by 'gay', you mean 'awesome', right? Because that's what 'gay' means."

  • People react differently to, "That's so gay," but for me I tend to say it even more since I came out haha. Just jokingly :P my straight friends find it hilarious

  • @cdarrsse I'm sure it's just ephemeral slang that will go the way of groovy.

  • I couldn't agree more!
