Was the best live I ever seen. Best sound, best setup, best lineup, best Stoner Band ever. 1995. Saw them in the middle of 2000's, sadly not the same sound, poor one.
Could someone tell me: what the lyric's about? Who are the Street Crabs? I'm asking because i love this fucking song! ONE OF BEST SONGS OF THE MANKIND HYSTORY!
I think the key line in the song is when he sings: "I'm not making sense/Just ignore me". I don't think Page places a lot of importance on the meaning of the the lyrics. Whatever meaning you take from the lyrics is worth a lot more than whatever he could want you to hear.
@Malpractice2003 "Street Crab" always brought to my mind the image of a cop driving slowly by, looking along its side as if it were a crab walking sideways. Whether or not that's accurate, I love the fucking riff at the end of this song.
@Malpractice2003 I've always thought it was a song about scoring a drug fix. Street Crab being being the drug dealer pusher that "infects the water" meaning he is unavoidable. The first paragraph describes someone needing a fix. "Thirst I had at last, run the water". The second paragraph reads like someone who's gotten their fix" Safe and sound, like the perfect food" Then it later goes on to describe the street crab in a unipersonal light : "Every street crab will push the Vowels the same
@bcastine1975 Oh yeah! It's makes a lot of sense, because Page was passing through some drug issues at that time...and your teory is more acceptable. The funny thing is that music makes me feel good, i think it's a very positive and "good-feeling" sound, i don't know...But yeah, i agree with your explanation!
I'll never forget how crushing it was the 1st time I saw the almighty Helmet opening for Rollins in '94 and they opened with Street Crab! They sounded fucking HUGE!!!
this band was so good live, so tight and sharp. the lineup was key, and i hope whatever page did to lose john stanier was worth it cause that guy is one of the best ever for this genre.
Another one of those vids you just can't get enough of.Every aspect of this song rules, best song off Betty, which also happens to probably be my fav. Helmet album, hell album for that matter.Pure masterpiece, this song just so comes together, and the footage shows it.Great lyrics,F**King incredible riff, insane bassline,Drums are a clinic, accept you can't teach to hit that hard. This really showcases Pages vision of rock,as did most of Betty. The modesty of Helmet just exemplified its supremeness.
Your so right, I can't stomach the "new Helmet" due to the inability of the replacement drummers to even begin to replicate Staniers work.Helmet is not even half as good without him,and Henry as well, was really a chemistry thing musically between John,Henry and Page.None of them having a "true" hard rock background is what made the 3 so innovative.
This is indeed f**king awesome. I saw Helmet perform this song live once during their sound check, but it was without vocals. And no one was stage diving. BTW there's a live version of Street Crab on the Metallurgy compilation

I agree with you, and I was only 3 when this was going on, people need to realize how influential helmet was.
megafonzie666 2 years ago
Ah the Helmet years. Notice the freedom of the stage divers. In 95 you could still do that and not get beat, tazed and thrown out by security.
