Pavarotti never sang this role, it's the baritone part . . . he would have sang the part of the Count Almaviva, (aka Lindoro the singing teacher), that is the tenor role in this opera!
I'm going to see Il Barbiere di Siviglia in May! I'm actually that excited for it! Won't be as good as when Pavarotti did it, but you can't perfect perfection I guess!
@RobertoResinski This isn't Pavarotti singing, Pavarotti is a tenor and has never sung this, this is Sherrill Milnes a great baritone and his contemporary. But -- I am sure you'll enjoy Il Barbiere di Seviglia it's a great opera.
@ternak001 No it isn't. I bet he wouldn't mind being credited for it though :P Anyway, If you listen to Robin Williams' version you'll notice a "slight" difference in singing technique (since I can't post a link in a comment: search for "figaro robin williams" and it will be one of the first links on YouTube)
if the city i live in were abandoned due to something, zombies, war, etc, i would play this with precisioned placed speakers in the city, so that even though the people are gone, music still lives
@sofik964 Because this is in fact NOT Pavarotti, and those of us who know opera are upset that somebody passes this for his recording and want to correct misconception. Also, it's obvious to anybody who has a normal hearing that it's not Pavarotti voice. HERE if you don't believe me: /watch?v=v1cIIUPPUUw - starting from 4:45. Recognize?
@serrateresa I never said it was Pavarotti, but what is the point of posting the comment that this is not him if every second comment is like this? Plus the top comment. It makes no sense!
@sofik964 My guess everyone is complaining because no matter how many times this is posted, people still don't get it. There are a lot of people on you tube who are completely new to opera, aren't able to distinguish voices, don't know the difference between a tenor and a baritone, and that classical music generally performed as written, not transposed. Many of them don't know any opera singer but Pavarotti. If corrected, maybe they'll understand that there are other great singers.
@TIBETANMELOMAN What do you mean better Figaro, Sherrill Milnes is fantastic here. There are other excellent performances, yes Harlea, also check out Muslim Magomaev. But Milnes is excellent.
@imacullen1985 Ahahahah the first time i heard this song was thanks to Tom & Jerry and I loved that immediately. I also tried to sing this song just to have fun and just after years i've discover and understand how beautiful is lyric music :)
@theraperance I doubt it. While I've not voted either way myself, I don't think anybody of these 140 dislike the music or the interpretation - it is a beautiful aria sung by a great singer. The problem is the title. The singer here is Sherrill Milnes, not Pavarotti, and since many people on you tube are not familiar with opera it is wrong to mislead them.
@jewelmarkess Largo al factotum (which is being sung here) is made for baritone voices (if im right)?... Luciano Pavarotti is a tenor.. so does not fit if that is true :P
@DonNKaster You are absolutely right, this is what I am saying. The singer is Sherrill Milnes, a great baritone and a contemporary of Pavarotti. If you are not familiar with Sherrill Milnes you can look him up here, you'll hear that this is his voice.
@jewelmarkess Well, this man is Italian, so he is just proud of hearing some singing in Italian and already proud of his "bel parlar gentile":-). Who cares if it's a tenor, bariton or bass! It's Rossini e basta! It should be enough! LOL I also have some Italian blood. So I'm also proud of this fact! So, as a result - bravo Pavarotti that I'm also a bit Italian! LOL Who really cares that Pavarotti was a TENOR, and it's not him singing here at least because it's a BARITONE's aria! LOL
@serenaluce Well yes, if he is proud because it's Rossini it's fine, but I have a suspicion he thinks it's Pavarotti singing .... and Milnes is American not Italian. But, you are right, I should've been nicer to the guy. Italians have plenty to be proud of; we'd not have had this great music without them.
@jewelmarkess Well, I don't know if we should be nicer with ignorant people:-). National pride has nothing to do with who actially sings in THIS video!:-) Why should all the credit who is ITALIAN go to only PAVAROTTI?! I prefer Rossini then! LOL I'm proud of being Russian too, but if it's e.g. a bass's aria like Boris Godunov's and somebody claims that it's not e.g. Nesterenko but Lemeshev who was a TENOR and just couldn't sing it why should I be proud of it and yell :"Bravo Lemeshev"?! LOL
@serenaluce This is exactly the reason why I am commenting, and I really don't understand how people can't hear the difference. Preconceived notions? The video says so than it must be true? I suppose it works this way sometimes. Similarly if it had been Boris Godunov and it were a non-Russian like say Renee Pape singing Boris Godunov and someone said it was Lemeshev, and how one is proud because it was Lemeshev... This is so silly why not just give credit where credit is due.
@jewelmarkess Absolutely!Actually I don't care what nationality the singer is if he sings it right, and the video is presented properly!:-)That's why I commented here too that it's just must be a practical JOKE with some kind of picture "a la Pavarotti" with somebody who looks a bit like him.Something when people just put their faces in a hole for the face and be taken pictures just for fun:-).It can be very funny when a fat woman put her face and became a MODEL!
