  • The bass player looks like the granpa in family guy!

  • hey spenserforwood, u really hv low taste..

bill stewart = the art of drumming, he's a "singing drummer!"

travis barker is nothing but rudiments, cheap licks & grooves..

he's a white trash too, same as you!!

  • Check-out the likes of Ari Hoenig + Paal Nilssen-Love.

  • what is the name of the song????that's most tasteful solo i ever heard!

  • everyone lay off rrdrums .... he`s set in his ways , he refuses to move on from his comfort zone , he is ignorant of the many beautiful cats who play beautiful drums .... feel bad for him instead of kicking him to the curb ....maybe one day he will come out of his shell and let himself experience all the great drummers and the great things they play

  • this guy's ok but dude look up travis barker he's so good.... SIKE!

  • best youtube description ever.

  • Is that Fish from Barney Miller on bass?

  • jajjajaaj just amazing bill, as always.

  • the bassist is in like an orgasmic trance

  • I just got rick roll'd didn't I?

  • thank you bill

  • looks like steve is swallowing!

  • bass player looks like having an orgasm

  • I see the legacy of Tony and Max in Bill. Bill is a monumental talent that really puts the kit to it's complex and textured melodic paces. He is far beyond the pale timekeeper. I could watch/listen to him all day!

  • this is the solo to 'another one bites the dust?'

  • @dressedtosmellgood Good observation! It's a hooky riff...

  • right on ... somebody needs to put up or shut up.

  • Ce solo est extraordinaire

  • Show romanization

Nadie resultó herido o matado animales se encuentra en ella. El fuego fue causado probablemente por las chispas de las instalaciones que había improvisado un espacio en los cerdos.

Según las primeras estimaciones, el daño es grande.

  • Big difference in sound between the Gretsch he usually plays and that candy cutter sounding Pearl .

  • what tune is this pls someone......

  • Tony Williams for the easy win.

  • nice bass face

  • bill is one of my favorite players, his solos are so musical. granted i dont think this was one of his finest moments, it was still great!

  • Looks like Steve Svallow

  • amazing drumming and also my hat comes off to the steady time of the bass player throughout all that!!!

  • Why does the bass guy look like he's poopin his pants?

  • because he is poopin his pants duuh -_-

  • he's clearly having an orgasm.

    EVERYBODY'S PARTY! love it

  • lighten up, snobs!

  • rrdrums110,

You really are an ignoramus. Guys like you are so obvious. You don't have a clue what you're talking about, but have just enough knowledge to be dangerous,

Oh the internet! Such a great invention. Unfortunately it gives voice to people who should keep their mouths shut.

  • bill stewart is a good drummer, whether or not he plays your definition of "jazz." he isn't my personal favorite, I like people like brian blade, kendrick scott, tony williams, jack dejohnette, ari hoenig, jeff ballard, gregory hutchinson, roy haynes, jeff hamilton, elvin jones, buddy rich, and all the others. but jazz changes; you can't put rules on what "jazz" is.

  • rrdrums110... nobody's comparing drummers. Tony, Elvin, and all the others are GREAT. Bill Stewart is great too. I don't see why we have to compare them or classify them by 'caliber.'

  • yes thanks ,This is where these comments totally fall off the track ,If we all played /sounded ,alike ;the world of clones what have yu.=THIS IS WHAT MAKES MUSIC/JAZZ...This is negation ,judging etc .

  • It would be an interesting exercise Mr. rrdrums. Are you sure that your boy friend wouldn't mind.

  • PART 2: Check Mike Clark w/ Herbie (swingin straight 8ths) If you wanna see new innovation that might impress your limited capacity to understand music, listen to Ari Hoenig's melodic drumming or Dan Weiss's tabla interpretations on drumset. Maybe the fact that they are doing something so conceptually different will stroke your ego enough to give THEM some respect. While he isn't at the forefront of some new musical movement, Bill Stewart is a great jazz drummer and improviser- period.

  • This has to be posted in 2 parts. PART 1: Do all you haters even play drums for a living? None of you sound like you have an inkling of what is going on here. Tony/Elvin & company were definitely around when Jazz took a big turn in a new direction, but they played many ways- not just with (what do you call it?) meat. They played pansy (as you call it) licks, too.

  • nah dude, bill stewart is amazing, taking the tradition and just pushing it forward. Everything he plays has so much pocket and feeling, he swings his ass off and he has totally innovated within the traidition. He's a great just like tony or elvin or anyone else.

  • Nope, no love.

  • @rrdrums110

Let me tell ya something... I'm a jazz drummer and fan myself. and as a drummer that listens to jazz... and when i say jazz i mean from 1940 to 2011. i think you're holding too tight on the tradition... let the jazz flow... jazz has always been changing since the 30's. and those names you mentioned... they were pioneers that had something new to say about drumming. all i say is, without inovation, this style wouldnt have existed at all. let it swing man.

  • Yeah wenpet .Real of afraid of feminity. Bring your wife around me if she's good looking and see who gets insecure when she starts hitting on me. If i take her home you'll never see her again.

  • I think mr rrdrums is hung up about his latent femininity

  • Comment removed

  • Ok the best I can say about it is it's better than nothing. What a compliment huh?

  • Stfu. It's Bill Stewart. Bar-steward.

  • And Mark 1957.You are spot on w/remarks. ImO the dilution of this so called "jazz experiment" by these new hacks is so much like the govt bailout experiment in that it just isn't going to work. People clearly don't approve by the lack of commerciality industry side thanks to the commercial approach musician side. This isn't good music or jazz!!! and these are not good jazz musicians isn't that apparent?Gadd stay in the studio and record hal blaine type hit music that's what you do alright.

  • I'm sure you saw Gadd trying to embarass Buddy Rich's legacy at his memorial didn't you? He was playing a straight 8 shuffle to the big band. Man if that isn't knowing how to swing then I don't know what is. Besides his solo wasn't based on the Groove of the swing band. So much for mr groove and his so un Buddy like hands. As for Jazz now thanks to gadd and the so called new but diiferent jazz guys. Can you say emasculated Cindy Blackan is the best jazz drummer out there. What a joke!

  • You people are reduculous, jazz isn't in trouble at all. What do you want, a bunch of clones running around copying all of the jazz greats, jazz musicians should expirement. And please, don't tell me Stewart and Gadd don't swing.

  • the guys who wrote those comments are up there in terms of age. they're just trying to hold onto something they had when they were younger, so now they think that the new jazz is worse. it's not, only differnt.

  • yeah, your right jazzmessenger8. Also i just want to say that not a "new jazz" is good, but if you dont try anything new , nothing good is going to happen. And seriously,

  • yeah, your right. also i just want say that not all "New Jazz" is good. but if you dont try anything new , nothing innovative is going to happen, coltrane didn't just play standards his whole life, he took risks and things worked out. and seriously people, its all music, don't categorize, just listen, you people kill all of the good vibes. lol.

  • No, Jazz isn't in trouble.

There used to be a Jazz Club on every street corner. Jazz musicians were on prime time TV every day. There were 100 Big Bands touring. You could make a decent living playing only Jazz if you wanted. Jazzers wore suits and behaved like civilized people. Every major city in the US had several Jazz radio stations.

    Jazz records outsold everything else.

This is when our country cared about talent and good music, not money.

    No, Jazz isn't in trouble at all . . . . .

  • I know. It's not in trouble. Being less popular doesn't mean that it's in trouble, the two are not directly related. Yes, jazz IS much less popular than in previous years. what's your point?

  • To jazz..yes yes and more yes. jazz has been introuble. This a pansie approach. Long gone is the raw viciousness of the bigger expressionists. Elvin jones tony billy buddy joe. The real painters who SWUNG. Thanks to drum machines sequencers and guys like gadd who get idolized for homogenizing lacucaracha and funky rythms and calling themselves jazz musicians which is the other non swinging side of the now crowd. Guys who are afraid to hit drums in general. I do like david blade.

  • it's Brian, not david. And jazz is not in trouble, it's the jazz that YOU like that's in trouble. jazz is changing, but not going away.

  • I agree. Early Tony was a real force, real innovation.

Never really cared for Stewart. If he is considered the new generatrion of legit Jazz drummers, than Jazz is in big fucking trouble.

Really, it already is. Almost every single one of the truly great Jazz Drumming Legends are either dead or way past their prime (Morello).

Sad, really - such a great Art form like Jazz Drumming all but gone the way of the dinosaur ~

  • Jazz has always been evolving, and always will be. It's not "in trouble." And Bill Stewart, if anything, represents more good things to come. He is incredible.

  • bill i like you so much... you're so gr8....

  • Wow,very enjoyable,that's some skill right there!

  • please squatdorf an you reccommend a good travis video for me because i have not got a lue about any sort of drumming or rudiments or technique and travis sounds like the best drummer ever if there ever was a competetion, or even better, who would travis reccomend?

  • it was extremely impressive actually. you are just not able to appreciate jazz drumming.

I'd like to see an "average drummer" play that solo. good luck.

    dumbshit....

  • I can only hope that your kidding. And I really really do.

  • Agreed. I really hope that you're kidding.

  • travis is just as good as any other college drum

I've seen a seven year old better than travis

  • if i could do that on the drums i'd be so tight, jazz drumming is like chiinese to me.

  • I just love the freak on the bass. Awesome.

  • He's Steve Swallow

  • a whole lot of ass stomping delivered.

  • 1:17--that's some nasty ish...

  • crazy shit mayne

  • bill stewart the best...great solo great sound great drummer great song...

  • does anyone know what this song is called?

  • It's called "Everybody's Party."

  • damn I would get off in my bass guitar too if it sounded like that XD

  • that bass player is really creepy.

  • "That Bass player" is one of the great modern composers. Steve Swallow..

  • Bill Stewart = awesome.

    That bass player = creepy.

  • That's Steve Swallow, amazing composer. Everyone looks funny when they play.

  • the bassist looks like hes recieving a blow job at the time he is performing this song. to be technical about it...i mean really...look at the guy.

  • that's what I was thinking.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa hahahahahaha

that's why I love this video

  • a groove this amazing probably feels just as good

  • OMFG! i was watching before th close up of him and was like, hmm not really...then BAM! AHAHAHA really though... is he serious?

  • everyone looks weird while they play.

    get over it!

and i aw bill stewart live AMAZING

  • I'm no John Mayor but Ive been told I make some pretty fucked up faces when I play... stickin my tongue out and shit.

  • Hah! "Who needs sex?" says Steve Swallow :P

  • uno dei miei batteristi preferiti.grandeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • uno dei miei batteristi preferiti

  • every single one of his limbs groove at the same time. Its so awesome

  • legendary jack dejohnette is the most influential modern jazz drummer alive. bill, peter, blade and ballard put him as their hero of all time..

  • He's not a drummer, he's a fine musician who happens to play drums. So damn musical!

  • Extraordinary tecnique and taste.

More, he plays in matched grip, really unusual for a jazz drummer.

In my opinion he is one of the three best jazz drummers in the world. The other two are Peter Erskine and Al Foster. But I don't know if Morello and Bellson are still alive...!

  • This is just great!

  • Great as usual!

  • There really only one Bill Stewart... a unique voice, more so than any other living drummer in my opinion.

  • He is on a John Scofield CD I got

    awsome drumming

    Scares Me

  • You're retarded, his style is completely based on feel. Bozzio and Peart play in completely different groups as well. I'm tired of seeing all these dipshit comments on youtube that think music is some sort of competition. "Doesn't quite make it" are you referring to your small window of tolerance, your limited knowledge of musicality, or your lack of understanding of how Bill Stewart is one of the leaders in jazz right now.

  • Uh, hello...I was completely being sarcastic. Jeeeeez guys. Bill Stewart is one of the best Jazz drummers I've EVER seen or heard. I was joking. I guess my humor was a bit dry. sorry 'bout that.

  • sorry for calling you retarded. you understand there are a million of comments similar it's hard to tell sometimes. Usually I don't reply to dumb comments like that but saying he has no feel just floored me. Great work.

  • No worries! That's what I love about Bill. He has this knack for playing exactly what I hear in the song, but before I hear it! Such feel, and so unpretentious; just there for the music, for the song! Greatness!

  • duh...just duh

check out maceo parker's mo roots album w/ him. The dude has killin' funk grooves that bozzio and peart dream of while they're sleepin'.

  • Oh! I´m sorry is JOHN SCOFIELD! SORRY! I´m an idiot.

  • Anyone knows the name of the bass player? I´ve seen he playing with John Scofield!

  • His name is Steve Swallow, and is a great, great,...GREAT musician!

  • I NEED MORE!! what concert is this?

  • I talked to bill and we have decided that an 18 inch bass drum suits his style better and if you want motley crue you know where to find them.

  • 00:31 jazz is better than sex=p

  • If I was Drum czar for drummers (Jokingly) I want to put a temporary ban on 18inch BD's until further notice. I want all drummers to use a 24inch BD for a while. Esp drummer's like Bill they need a 24in BD for a while. Someone pls talk to him for me.

  • It's OK. Don't get too carried away with platitudes. He is similar in approach to the guy with Steely Dan.

  • Touch and tone... touch and tone... Bill is a perfect blend between the funkiness and tone of Idris Muhammad, the surprisiveness of Bob Moses and the virtuosity of Jack DeJohnette.

  • Very musical - I'll take this approach to soloing any day over blowing pure chops like many of the young cats do.

  • This guy is doing what most drummers cannot even imagine...

  • Awesome!!

  • some of the funkiest white boys on earth!

  • "lol looks like the bassist is having an orgasm xD"

    I couldn't agree more actually :D

  • yes he is

  • Baterista de exquisito gusto musical y sensibilidad suprema.

    Maestro de la sutileza sonora.

  • lol looks like the bassist is having an orgasm xD

  • I'm selling my kit. This dude kills(so what if he's gay.) Jazz is more expressive and "open" to improvisation and exlporation than boring metal music.

  • Cool drums but that bassist is creeping me out

  • Anyone who thinks one genre is "shit" compared to another is devoid of any logic whatsoever. As is someone who condones that sort of thinking.

  • okay, that sounds a lot better, but hey he's 'metal-like' (only joking)

  • Damn I just got into jazz drumming and I always thought jazz was shit compared to metal drumming, but damn. This guy is amazing.

  • "Damn I just got into jazz drumming and I always thought jazz was shit compared to metal drumming, but damn. This guy is amazing."

The fact you thought that in the first place makes you a moron. You can't compare jazz and metal, sure you can prefer one over the other, but that comparison is such bullshit

  • you're the mor*n here Funk, mister taco-eater is in fact the first metal-like guy i know, who has the gutts to honestly admit that jazz can be way more complex than metal stuff. So a big finger to you, and a welcome to taco in this world of the dirty J of Jazz

  • genius!!

  • One of my favorite drummers ever - LOVE his playing. Is that a backline kit, or is he playing Pearl drums now?

  • Geeee...this guy is a a genius...

  • wow great video; jazz drumming blows my mind.

  • Unbelievable. In all my years of drumming I have yet to even come close. Amazing...

  • Steve Swallow is great !

you don't know what you're on about .

Stewart is amazing, even for a ginger gay guy !

  • Bill's gay?

  • do you wanna mary him?

  • definately one of the "gods"how does he tune to get such a bautiful & CONSISTANT sound.

  • Nice drumming but next time ditch the dirty old man with the bass

  • hehe..."dirty old man"...that's kinda funny. but you have no idea who that is. steve swallow is the effin' man. he's recorded with EVERYONE...jim hall, art farmer, paul bley, scofield, tom harrell, joe lovano,...just to name a few.

  • Bill Stewart's style is so hip. It's like he's not even playing drums ... just communicating his ideas. Brilliant.

  • ridiculoussssssssss
