  • Great video! Very detailed and easy to understand! Do you know how to remotely use the sb-700? If so, will you be making a video on that??? :)

  • @braty0007 Thank you! Watch my video on CLS Creative Lighting System. I showed how you can use TTL which is auto for beginners but if you know how to manually set the flash power then instead of selecting TTL you can choose M for manual. I have tutorials that teach how to use manual flash. There are total of 4 videos on flash I think.

  • Very educational.

  • WOW I LEARNED ALOT Please do more

  • that's cool! i'm always on a manual mode and love to shoot portrait. thanks for the quick reply and hope to see your next tutorial soon. Awesomeness :)

  • good job man! awesome vids and tutorials. it really helps a lot. any way i was wondering what setting do you usually use in shooting portrait photos? i'm planning to get an sb-700 this week. thank you

  • @daisukiaprilrose Thanks man! I'm going to do a video on manual exposure/flash as the settings will depend on how much light is present, size of the room, etc.

  • awesome~! I learned a lot ;)

  • good job man

  • nice tutorial man, keep this flash video coming. planning to get a SB700 soon.

  • I favor the shot with the envelope as the reflector.....GREAT TUTORIALS!!

  • what nikon lens do you have used for this test?

  • @SupraGTNos 50mm 1.8D an Amazon link of this lens is listed on my site.

  • Excellent tutorial learned alot from it.. thank you... How ever I do have one suggestion.. when displaying differences between pictures don't just fade to black between images. because its hard to compare the differences between images.

use standard cut and you can even add a shutter sound effect between images.. thanks..

  • @360mix I love the idea of shutter sound. Not sure where I could download it from though.

  • @PhotographersOnUTube google.. camera shutter sound and download one that you like... I do like your tutorials!!

  • i really thank u photographersonutube becaz u have great turorials !

  • @gajetjoe Thank you, gajetjoe! I appreciate that.

  • Could you possibly do a video discussing "accessories" that people will need or that are useful when someone is buying their first DSLR? Filters, cases, what type of memory card to get, etc.? Some of this is probably obvious but some of it not so much. If not, I still have a question about filters: what are they, do I need one, and how do I find out what kind I need?

    These videos are lovely!

  • @fallingdownthestairs Yes, eventually I'll do a video on it. Right now I'm trying to get all the main stuff out of the way. Some of the accessories that I have used and recommend are listed under "budget photography" on my website. I am not big on filters. You should have a UV filter which pretty much protects your lens. You have a polarizing filter which is good if you do a lot of landscape work. It eliminates the haze. You have ND8 filter. I talked about that in my shutter video.

  • @PhotographersOnUTube Thank you so much!

  • Thanks Jibran. All information is helpful.

  • It was at first not focusing fast enough so I went to Manual focus and was a little faster. I was set at about 1.8 i believe but was shooting at 1/250 or 1/100 but by the time the lens opened and shut they were about off of the stage. I changed my focus setup so as I could just focus on the subject at the same location then clicked the camera in standby then shot when the next person walked up. worked a little better.

  • @Jack19592008 I don't know where you had the focal point placed. It's fastest in the middle. So if you move that on the far left/right it won't be as fast as the mid focal point. I think this was because of low light but in manual there shouldn't be any drag specially at 250. Manually focusing moving subject is hard because the distance is changing in a fraction of a second. You could also try AF-C for next time and see if that's any better.

  • Blur on the shot and when you push the shutter to shoot it is slow response before the lens actually opens then shuts so they have walked a couple of feet. I found it rather hard to catch the subject before they left the stage as it was very slow when depressing the shutter. A lot of the times causing blur. If you are able to shoot, you are only able to shoot one shot not multiple, even if the flash was able to recover because of the slow response of the shutter.

  • @Jack19592008 First I thought maybe your camera/flash were set on rear curtain sync but it seems like the camera is just not focusing fast enough due to lack of light. If the kids are just walking, you could still freeze them at 1/80 without blur. I know the event is over but for next time you could drop the speed to 1/80 which will let more light in. I don't know what aperture you were using but in a situation like this you open up the aperture even if it's 1.8 and give you soft image.

  • Good video. I'm saving for the SB-700. I decided to get the Nikkor 50mm AF-S 1.4G first instead of the bounce flash. I have to admit that I am having difficulty focusing with it which is strange, it feels like my 18-105 kit lens is sharper. I think I just don't know the ideal distance to shoot at with the new lens. (I own a D7000 btw)

A request for a possible upcoming video, would be a video explaining what does the 50mm or 18-105mm, etc. mean. What distance do you have to stand at for them.

  • @ZlleH If you're too close to the subject, the camera won't focus. It's something else I think because a kit lens could never even come close to the quality you'll get from a prime lens. You could have gone with 50mm f/1.8 AF and saved some money there. At 1.4 your image could be a bit soft. It will give you slightly better contrast than 1.8 but that can be manipulated in post processing. 50mm or 18-105mm is just a focal range. Your kit lens can be zoomed upto 105mm while 50mm is fixed at 50

  • @PhotographersOnUTube Yes, I think it's two factors, I realize that 50mm lens on a DX camera is really 75mm and also, I found out that the "usable aperture" for this lens is between 1.8 to 5.6. No wonder my test shoots during the weekend looked so "soft", I was constantly using 1.4 aperture. Now I'm thinking if I should return it to Henry's and wait for the new 50mm AF-S 1.8. Now I am wondering why and what situation I would ever use 1.4 aperture...?

  • @ZlleH The only time you'd use 1.4 is when the lighting is really bad and you're doing a paid shoot. You have to come up with some shots. Later in post processing you can try to sharpen the image a little. But people who are doing paid shoots don't use a very basic entry level DSLR. In other words, you bump your ISO. I personally don't shoot at 1.8. It's always 2.8 and up. If you can return it, do it and get 50mm f/1.8D AF instead. You don't need AFS. D7000 has a built in motor for AF.

  • @PhotographersOnUTube Yes, I think you're right, I'm going to return the 50mm 1.4 for the 50mm 1.8. I got the 1.4 because I love bokah, but I'm not willing to go down one more stop and lose sharpness. And I prefer the AF-S because I like the more silent motor in the lens working then the louder motor in the camera body. I really think it helped out this past weekend when I was taking shoots of my friend's sleeping infant.

  • @ZlleH If you're a bokeh fan, then you need a 85 1.8. Again, 85 1.4 is not worth the extra $ to me.

  • @PhotographersOnUTube Well, I returned the 50mm AF-S 1.4G and got the 50mm AF 1.8D and the SB-700!! Let me say OMG!! It is so much nicer then the built in flash. I can shoot at higher shutter speed because of the flash compensation, this is a biggy for me. I've only played with it for just 30 minutes so the only thing I don't like is how heavy it is, the camera is very top heavy now. I'm pretty happy though. Thanks!

  • @ZlleH Oh, Yeah, forgot. You are so right about going manual, the TTL didn't look right at all, I had to go to manual to get the right exposure that I wanted. and I can't believe the difference it makes to go from 1/8 -03ev to 1/8 -07ev power.

  • @ZlleH Yes, manual flash is the way to go. No guessing game. You get the same exposure. In TTL your exposure can change in the next shot. Then you're trying to adjust the flash compensation. With manual, you know what you're going to get. If someone takes pictures in auto, then I understand but to take pictures in manual with TTL.... I don't get it.

  • left. I was shooting at around 1/250. I hope you understand what I am saying. When I used to shoot with 35mm it was almost instantaneous when you shot and didn't have this problem. Am I doing something wrong?

  • I hate to keep asking questions but I shot at a school for a graduation tonight and the problem I have is that I was shooting at ISO 3200 with flash but as they are walking up I noticed that when you click the shutter there is a delay then after a few seconds it will shoot. I took off the auto focus and shot manual which seemed to make a little difference but if I didnt just hold down the shutter and wait till they walked up to the podium I could not shoot fast enough to catch them before they

  • @Jack19592008 You can ask as many questions as you like. I don't quite get it though. Did the flash take a few seconds to fire or the camera took a few seconds to capture the shot and caused motion blur?

  • you do nice work man! your videos are really helpful for me cause i got a dslr and want to "blend in" in photography. its fun!

  • @Adnoctumz I try :) Thank you! Do join us on facebook for quick mini tutorials.

  • what battery do you recommend?

  • @Jepraw No compromise on the battery. Advanced/Ultra Duracell or Energizer. My cousin uses the quantum battery pack.

  • Great Job. I like the way you did the comparisons between the different angles. I have bought and used the sun blockers you put in the windows of vehicles and they fold up nicely for bouncing the flash. Look for a silver backing or white backed sun blocker/ sun shade. Thanks again for the great video. Your videos are getting better every time. Thanks Jibran

  • @Jack19592008 Thanks, Jack! Yes, that will work just as fine. It may even be the same material actually. We'll take these flash tutorials to a new level and add multiple flashes and see what kind of lighting effect it creates.

  • Nice vids!!! hey bro special request, can u greet my name please lol :)

  • @Jepraw I don't get it? Say hi to you in the video? I'll give you a shout out when I do the video on DIY sling strap.

  • @PhotographersOnUTube yup say hi to me in the video lol

  • first! thanks for another lesson dude! keep up the good work!
