In short, it is unlikely that anything like what is described in this video would have happened. Abuses by slave owners -- rape, whipping, beating, murder, to say nothing of depriving other human beings of their freedom -- this we know happened, and we must never forget it. But this guy's story? The fact that the guy in the video is selling "artifacts" says it all. A piece of junk with a "history" attached can be sold for thousands of dollars. The history he attaches here does not add up.
Think it through. Alligator hunters' bread and butter depended on catching alligators, period. Dogs/chickens were cheap bait. 19th century and 18th century existence was hard. People lived a far shorter lifespan. The mid-30s was middle-aged, and by then most were hobbling through life burdened by the result of various injuries and incurable illnesses. Slave quarters were crowded. Slaves were the valuable property of their owners. Anyone attempting to steal a slave could be shot on sight.
Slavery was not illegal. It was a thoroughly documented enterprise vis-a-vis business and law. Rough treatment of slaves, lashings, rape, murder were not hidden. Any slave theft was documented. The video claims slave babies were stolen by hunters, then caged, drowned, fed to alligators. No record of it. Stealing slaves was a capital crime in most southern states. You could also be shot on the spot for stealing a slave. Hunters used cheap and plentiful chickens, dogs and cats as bait.
I don't understand why there'd be paintings, artifacts, and racial slurs describing this just for fun. If you think drawing it is fun, then obviously theirs others that take it lightly enough to actually do it. I got a message from a person but umm I really do not watch it. I was crying and very sad. Not only black babies were killed by alligator in years ago but in east Africa, I think it was either Egypt or other Arab countries, they used to throw baby boys to feed alligators. I've lived in Florida all my life and I have to say this is a fact. They used to hook the black babies in the mouth just like a fish and tow them in boats until a gator bit them. Some times a smaller gator would bite, only ripping off the infant's legs prolonging the experience.

Think it through. Alligator hunters' bread and butter depended on catching alligators, period. Dogs/chickens were cheap bait. 19th century and 18th century existence was hard. People lived a far shorter lifespan. The mid-30s was middle-aged, and by then most were hobbling through life burdened by the result of various injuries and incurable illnesses. Slave quarters were crowded. Slaves were the valuable property of their owners. Anyone attempting to steal a slave could be shot on sight.

Slavery was not illegal. It was a thoroughly documented enterprise vis-a-vis business and law. Rough treatment of slaves, lashings, rape, murder were not hidden. Any slave theft was documented. The video claims slave babies were stolen by hunters, then caged, drowned, fed to alligators. No record of it. Stealing slaves was a capital crime in most southern states. You could also be shot on the spot for stealing a slave. Hunters used cheap and plentiful chickens, dogs and cats as bait.

I think blacks were 2 busy being slaves to hunt alligators at the time, even the 1923 Time article was written by peoples personal accounts, and I C nothing about slaves being payed, but u kno what if they were paid then they werent really slaves, so u just uncovered the truth slavery never really happened, wat were people talking about this whole time? A novel can be historical in nature, but its reliability in terms of factual material depends on the research skills and intentions of the author. This author concocts a tale of white people hunting slaves in the African bush -- capturing the strong young males of a village and slaughtering the rest. We know from history that rival tribes captured each other and sold each other to European slave traders.

You seem to think because somebody says something or draws a picture of something it is automatically a fact. "Roots" as a book and TV event, along with hundreds of other books, plays and films concerning slavery have been produced and widely disseminated. No mention of the race of the hunters. No casualties or even suffering occurred. @glorifiedgee To reiterate: as slavery was lawful business, there is plentiful proof, documentation, evidence for the atrocities of the US slavery holocaust, but none for the outrageous claims in this huckster's video. The horrors of slavery need not be embellished, as if the suffering of its real victims were not enough. A fitting memorial to those subject to slavery in the past would be to work assiduously to end slavery as it exists right now & bring slave owners of all races to justice.

Civil rights legislation in the1960s was passed by a white Congress and funded mostly by white tax payers. Affirmative action programs have successfully bolstered the black middle class. John Brown and abolitionists are studied in schools, as are the facts of slavery. Study and hard work lead to success.

@joh9ny As far as Civil Right's legislation in the 1960's, White folks should have passed it, they are the "guilty" ones here. As far as Affirmative Action programs, as soon as they "GAVE" Black folks something, they were already thinking of a way to take it back. When it comes to John Brown, that must be in college, that is definitely not being taught in middle schools. Slavery exists at this moment in the US -- in Florida there are many court cases involving migrant farm workers held under slave conditions. In Africa little boys and girls are forced into slave labor and raped daily. Sex slavery proliferates throughout south Asia and around the world. Any concerned about the horrors of slavery should be working to end it.

Not only black babies were killed by alligator in years ago but in east Africa, I think it was either Egypt or other Arab countries, they used to throw baby boys to feed alligators. There is no scientific basis for race; world populations have been migrating/mixing since there have been humans. We can no more judge all European people by Hitler than we can judge all Asian people by Pol Pot, or all African people by the boy soldiers of Liberia who in recent memory were killing and eating, raw the hearts and livers of their enemies. Slavery survives to this day in Africa, free black people in the Old South who could afford it owned slaves, esp. in New Orleans.

As far as blacks owning slaves during slavery, that is true. However, no matter how rich Black folk were, they could NEVER OWN a White person under ANY circumstances! So White lives still had MORE value (no matter HOW POOR Whites were) than Black lives in the America. That's the history here and it is true.

I've lived in Florida all my life and I have to say this is a fact. They used to hook the black babies in the mouth just like a fish and tow them in boats until a gator bit them. Some times a smaller gator would bite, only ripping off the infant's legs prolonging the experience.
