Good video. Would have loved to see him play just a bit. Funny he mentioned about loose hardware at the beginning. I have a DW custom kit and my first gig out, when i was setting up I heard something rolling around inside my 14" floor tom. one of the screws that holds the leg had come loose and was flopping around in there. I had to take off the head and found that most of the mounting hardware was loose so tightened it all up. But I am sure that was a fluke. I am TOTALLY stoked with my kit.
@kristiant007 Kind of flukey we guess. :) Sorry about that. We tighten those screws to a point where we do not damage the shell but tight enough to not have fall out. We appreciate your understanding and thanks so much for choosing DW!
If I lived near DW, I'd put in a resume because I would love to work for DW learning to build kits and stuff. Figure I use the product. I love the product. I would be honored to work for Drum Workshop. But I live in Portland. I'm moving to Hawaii.
Wonder if DW would make a Hawaiian Koa Shell kit. I'd love to experiment and hear how Koa would sound.
@DrummerEvansAki Thanks so much for your enthusiasm towards our gear! Doesn't sound to bad moving from Portland to Hawaii though right?!?
No plans to make an exotic Koa shelled kit at this time. We prefer using maple, birch, gum mahogany and poplar woods for right now. Our list has grown over the years for different shells so you never know. :) Aloha!
hey @DrumWorkshopInc would you tell me what it does take to possibly get an endorsement. or help with contacts for a place that will pay me to do drum covers and solo's. and currently i play on a percussion plus 5 piece drum set. with a ddrum floor tom and sp 13" snare.the sizes are 12" 13" 14" and 16" for the toms. a 22" bass. but i want to have a dual bass drum instead of a single with dual pedal. if you could help me with info, or even help me acheive one of those goals i would love it.thanks

Scott's one of my favorite drummers and my first influence to become a drummer to begin with! When I first heard Painkiller, I was like HOLY SHIZZLE!!!
That is one HIGH hat! Hahahahahahahahaha..... no? Okay. But seriously, when I get older, I plan to have a kit in my house. I won't stop playing til my body can't take it. And when I have the money, I'm buying a DW kit. They sound absolutely amazing. And definitely look the part.
Hey, DW, I have a question. I have a PDP Mainstage series kit, but PDP doesn't sound as totally awesome as DW does. I'm glad to have a DW product, but why is there so much... difference? Especially in snares. I have pretty much completely covered my snare's head in tape and it STILL needs dampening. And, like Derek Roddy, I like the thuddy sorta sound out of my floor toms, but I can't get that with my PDP set, no matter how much tape I have, as well!!! So why such a huge difference?
Respond to this video... Basically the shell types are different construction between the Mainstage and Derek's kit. The best thing to do to get rid of unwanted overtones would be to try some 2 ply heads. Hopefully this helps! Thanks for choosing PDP!
@DrumWorkshopInc LOL sorry it's not exactly a response to THIS video... I just saw someone else post a comment involving PDP and decided to ask my question here. I'll post it on the right video next time, and thanks!

@drummadude327 Sorry but did you mean 18x22's? We do not actually make 22x28's. We can do the Rally stripe not problem for you but we unfortunately can not do the blue hardware. It was exclusive to the Hockey kit. :( Sorry about that.
@drummadude327 We actually make up to 24" bass drums here in our factory. We can in fact get a 28" shell from Keller that will be very close to how we would make a 28" and do all the finishing you heart desires no problem! Sound good?!?
DW, my dad is endorsed by you, his name is guy frometa, i think you know him, but i was thinking, without my dad knowing, could you guys give me a kit jet black, black chrome hardware, DW pedals 9000, 8-piece :) (by 8-piece i mean two snares, not three toms) plissssssssssssssssssssssssssssss, for christmas?

@spiderlolo100 Best way to go is with SSC! You want that lower, thunderous sound. When you get a chance watch Derek Roddy's video on the DW You-Tube channel for a great example.

@DrumWorkshopInc The ratchet handle seems to be working fine. I've had that stand for about 3 weeks and i'm tightening the ratchet handle and screw on the tilter at tight as they can go and the basket still tilts.
@aneiles96 Ok it obviously sounds like there something internally that's not working. Are you still close to the dealer you bought it from? It is still under warranty so it can be fixed at no charge if you bought it new. The dealer can contact Customer Service here at 1-800-45-DRUMS to assist you with the warranty repair or the proper replacement parts. The best thing to is to get a replacement DWSP448. This one part number makes up the entire assembly where you are experiencing the issue.
@DrumWorkshopInc I have a 9000 snare stand and when I play my snare on it after about 20 minutes of playing, it tilts down towards me about a half inch. Any idea what I might be doing wrong with it?
@aneiles96 From what it sounds like you might not have the Ratchet Handle tightened completely or it could be stripped out. Hopefully not the second option. If that's the case we sell these small parts on line at dwdrums(dot)com. The Ratchet Handle is the black plastic "handle" that holds the arm the basket of the snare is attached too. Try tightening and loosening the Ratchet Handle to see of the thread is catching properly and go from there. Hope this helps!
DW, I know I am going to get flamed for this but I am so happy that you guys decided to pick up Cobus Potgieter. I'm very happy that you all recognize him as the future in drumming.
@mbj655 Whatever! Look, I know Tama makes some good drums, but do they have a friggin' custom shop in the greatest country on earth? No! But yes, Tama, DW, AND ddrum are my 3 favorite brands...
@outlaw6066 maybe it was some pics before DW? he tried some different drum companies between TAMA and DW. Ludwig and Pearl were some of the companies he tried.
I noticed on the "Kitbuilder 2.0" that you can't select 26 inch bass drums anymore. Does that mean you don't make bass drums in that diameter anymore?
@666RiffsOfDeth666 Thanks for your patience! You can go ahead and build your custom kit through the KitBuilder. Unfortunately you will not be able to get a quote because the different types of currencies world wide. The best thing to do is to build you custom kit and print the page out. Bring the your printed kit to your local authorized DW drums dealer and they will be able to help you out with pricing and ordering information...
@yankeesfan2627 Actually, all SSC options (VLT, X, VLX) are free. You just have to make sure it is specified when you place your order. We do not sell direct, therefore, do not have official pricing. Your best bet to get an accurate price is to call a dealer near you. There is a Dealer Locator on our website that you can use to find the one nearest to you. The type of finish effects the price too. thanks for the interest!
@noodlebater well, we do have limited sizes for our metal snares. The closest to what you're looking for is 6.5x14 (depth x diameter). List price is $1149. Remeber list is VERY inflated. You could probably pick this up in a store for under $700.
@glitchhacker101 not necessarily, but it usually helps. More than anything, having other major endorsements (like cymbals, sticks, etc) helps a lot. If you're interested, check out the application on our website dwdrums(dot)com. You'll find it under: Info > Frequently Asked Questions > General Questions > How do I become a DW Endorser.
@DrumWorkshopInc okay thank you. whats this whole DW performance thing coming out? any updates? date its released? shells? sizes? finishes? and videos? etc?
@trueapostle117 can't blame you for trying ;) we all wish it was that easy. thank you for the kind words and support though. We have a new DW Series coming out this fall that might be just the deal you're looking for. Stay tuned!
@DrumWorkshopInc i love that you guys reply to my messg =] i have relly old drum set but it dosent sound good nor bad so ill guess ill wait for fall :)
I live in Ontario, Canada. Would you guys know any companies (or even your company) that customize drums and that are in that area of the world? I'd like to know if I ever want to get my kit customized. I appreaciate it guys.
Just how custom are you willin to go?? how does a 23.676926458 inch bass drum compete?!?! and where on earth would i get those drumheads?!?! i kid of course
@bigkahne320 there are different levels of endorsement, but if you played for Judas Priest, we'd hook you up for sure ;) However, ALL DW Collector's Drums are custom made for each order, so while they are not free, you can order any size, have unlimited drums/ hardware, and have a totally custom made kit today! ;)
chad smith was makeing fun of dw kits being not custom which is true because if i orded one the shells would be already made and hanging on a shelf but pearl dont make shells till you order them and they more then 2 wood selections
if i was endorsed by DW . my custom choice would be , without a doubt, an 18x20, stainless steel bass drum, 6x12 metal snare drum 9x12 stainless stee tom and 14x14 stainless steel floor and that's it !!!
I've always wanted a dw kit and i am wondering how much a dw 10+6 Snare 14x6 in natural to blue regal fade with satin hardware. It is a lacquer specialty. Im thinking it will be 989.00 is that right?
@bongomaster12345 hello Sir, thank you for your interest in our instruments ;)
While you'll have to contact a dealer to get exact retail pricing (since we do not sell direct to consumers), I can give you the super-inflated and unrealistic "List" price.
For the drum you described, yes, it would be Lacquer Specialty, and list for $1038. Remember, the actual price will be much less.
If you are a decent player.. you can play any kit ...but ....a great skinned and sounding kit bring the fucking player out in you ..for sure!
I am giving DW there new Catchphrase -
" DW - Brings the player out!" "DW - Just add ability " , DW - Find the Player within !" , DW - Release the inner drummer" , Dw - WE made the KIT ..You bring the HIT!"
I know I ask this a lot for different artists :), but what does Scott use? Sizes and, I don't know what you guys call it, the VLT, X, VLX technology please! Also, for curiosity, the pedals he uses as well. Thanks! :D
@DrumWorkshopInc Great! Thanks :D. Wasn't expecting Scott to use reinforcing hoops. But I guess it evens out to some extent with the VLT and X shells!
@Salzcamino yeah. Other than slightly raising the fundamental pitch for the shell, the hoops add a focus to the tone of the drum. I believe it channels more of the vibration to the center of the shell, and thus give a fuller tone.
@DrumWorkshopInc Yeah, I actually read about that before you told me. But thanks anyways :). I didn't know they give a fuller tone though. I know this is like stating the obvious but I just have to say it; DW are geniuses! Including you :). Other than your knowledge you have a good way of talking to people =D
You know what would be cool? If DW made videos or a DW forum on the website that we DW/PDP users can go to and talk about our experiences with our kits. You know, us "regular" drummers who aren't really famous. You folks can sign me up for that.
@evansakidrums That's a great idea! Any reason why leaving comments here on YouTube is any less sufficient? Is it that you want more of a forum format, where you can create specific posts for specific topics?
@DrumWorkshopInc - Just a random thought, actually. Would be cool to have a forum for us DW users to tell stories from our shows and rehearsals and so-forth. I love sharing stories with other drummers. And I love the fact that you folks also comment on your videos too. I like being able to communicate with you guys. Maybe I can persuade you and all the viewers here to check out my videos here on YouTube. But it'd be cool to share gig stories with other drummers.
@DrumWorkshopInc - No. It's great to leave comments. I like the fact that you reply. But it'd be cool to share gig stories with other DW users. And for some of us who like showing off, like I do =), I can hopefully persuade people to check out my videos here on YouTube as well. LOL!!!
@DrumWorkshopInc I agree with the forum thing. Here's why, this is going to be more to your advantage at first when I say it. I joined the Sabian forum a while ago, and was actually convinced in getting Paiste cymbals before I joined. But I joined anyways, and the members there convinced me about Sabian, and about how amazing they are. Guess what happened a couple of days ago. I bought my first cymbal set- Sabian Xs20 :). And by convincing us to buy DW we help you earn money, and us sound better
@Salzcamino haha. win win. Yes, I get it. It would be nice for us to have a place to really "dork out" about DW product without the YT haters ;) We'll consider it for sure. Thanks for the suggestion and support.
@DrumWorkshopInc No problem. I guess great minds think alike, I actually hid the reason of the YT haters for myself, but it turns out you have it in mind too :D
@DrumWorkshopInc - I'm looking to add to my PDP X7 maple kit. You have Rata Toms. How much are a set of those and can you make it in the silver to black sparkle fade to match my kit? And another dream tom for me is a 14" x 20" single headed floor tom (gong bass with floor tom legs) and was wondering if you can make that too and how much? When I finish my cymbal upgrades, I'll know exactly what I'll need for my rack.
@evansakidrums rata toms range from $800-1200 each (list) depending on the finish (finishply-exotic). Size (depth) does not effect the price. they are all 6" diameter. We could absolutely match the silver to black fade on your X7s. That would be a Lacquer Specialty (about $1000 list). Although I am sure we can make it for you, we don't have a price for a 14x20. Keep in mind all these prices are unofficial, and you will find the most accurate prices at your local DW Dealer. Thanks ;)
@Salzcamino - I'm on the Sabian forum as well. And I'm upgrading my Sabian cymbals, mixing different Sabian models and so-forth. And the forum there is cool too because it's always good to talk shop with other Sabian users.
Man, I'd kill to be a DW/PDP endorser. I've got my dream kit. 18" x 22" bass drums (x2) with no tom mounts, 4" x 14" polished brass snare, 10" x 6" and 8" x 6 ratas, 7" x 8", 8" x 10", and 9" x 12" rack toms, 14" x 14" and 16" x 16" floor toms, and a 16" x 21" gong bass with floor tom legs in a Blood Red to Black Fade laquer finish. With DW pedals, hardware, and rack system. Hey DW, how much would this configuration with maple shells run me? Just out of curiosity. I can start saving for it!!!
@evansakidrums We love the dreams! To turn yours into a reality, it would cost roughly $16,500 Retail (list), and $10,000 "street" (more realistically what you'd pay a dealer). This doesn't include hardware, as those were not specified. But you could probably add another grand or two for that, depending on how dreamy you are ;)
@DrumWorkshopInc - Let the savings begin. Almost 13 grand? Hey, it's a DW. It's worth every penny. I've got the PDP X7 setup with a second bass drum and I love it. I'm sure I can have it in about a year or two. Unless the PDP line includes ratas and a gong bass. Or just a 14" x 20" single headed floor tom, which is more ideal. Thanks for the info. I'm a proud DW/PDP customer for life. I've played the rest over the course of 18 years. DW/PDP is, without a doubt, THE best I've ever played.
@ransisua LOL. Thanks for the compliment. Yeah...we've heard that about the playing footage. Tried it on Thomas Lang's. Got a lot of unhappy comments. :-/
@DrumWorkshopInc Don't worry about that: it was justified by the fact that it was outdoors and un-miked. It honestly does not matter in the end. If DW drums sound bad, it's not the drums: it's the recording equipment.
I know the difference. DW/PDP (I use the PDP X7 Maple 8-Piece Double Bass) is HANDS DOWN, the very best. My next move is to upgrade all my hardware and put together a drum rack for this big monster kit (as well as upgrade my cymbals) and I'm also looking into the possibility of next year, putting together a custom DW Maple shell kit with the blood red to black fade finish. In my 18 years as a drummer, I've learned one thing. I have played the rest. DW and PDP are the absolute BEST.
0:25 ... in the back there is just a hand appearing out of nowhere... I jumped out of my seat!!

Try tightening and loosening the Ratchet Handle to see of the thread is catching properly and go from there. Hope this helps!

Hey DW,
I noticed on the "Kitbuilder 2.0" that you can't select 26 inch bass drums anymore. Does that mean you don't make bass drums in that diameter anymore?
RazrHack 1 year ago
@RazrHack we still make 26 inch bass drums. We will probably add them to Kitbuilder for version 2.1.
Kitbuilder does not represent the entirety of custom options we offer. Because these options are virtually limitless, we had to stop somewhere ;)
DrumWorkshopInc 1 year ago
@DrumWorkshopInc
have you made the kit builder available to worldwide customers yet? i did ask about this a while ago still waiting :)
666RiffsOfDeth666 7 months ago

Hey DW,
Do you guys make custom sized metal drums? If so what would a 13x7 bronze snare run me?
noodlebater 1 year ago
@noodlebater well, we do have limited sizes for our metal snares. The closest to what you're looking for is 6.5x14 (depth x diameter). List price is $1149. Remeber list is VERY inflated. You could probably pick this up in a store for under $700.

do you have to be in a band to get endorsed?
glitchhacker101 1 year ago
@glitchhacker101 not necessarily, but it usually helps. More than anything, having other major endorsements (like cymbals, sticks, etc) helps a lot. If you're interested, check out the application on our website dwdrums(dot)com. You'll find it under: Info > Frequently Asked Questions > General Questions > How do I become a DW Endorser.

Hi,
I've always wanted a dw kit and i am wondering how much a dw 10+6 Snare 14x6 in natural to blue regal fade with satin hardware. It is a lacquer specialty. Im thinking it will be 989.00 is that right?
bongomaster12345 1 year ago
@bongomaster12345 hello Sir, thank you for your interest in our instruments ;)
While you'll have to contact a dealer to get exact retail pricing (since we do not sell direct to consumers), I can give you the super-inflated and unrealistic "List" price.
For the drum you described, yes, it would be Lacquer Specialty, and list for $1038. Remember, the actual price will be much less.
Also, keep in mind that SSC is free!

I know I ask this a lot for different artists :), but what does Scott use? Sizes and, I don't know what you guys call it, the VLT, X, VLX technology please! Also, for curiosity, the pedals he uses as well. Thanks! :D
Salzcamino 1 year ago
@Salzcamino you got it buddy!
(2) 24x23 (VLX)
9x10, 9x12, 9x14 (VLT w/ 3-ply r.hoops)
14x16 and 15x18 (X w/ 3-ply r.hoops)
5.5x14 snare (VLT no r.hoops)
he uses 9000 pedals, although he has used 8000's also.
cheers!
DrumWorkshopInc 1 year ago
@DrumWorkshopInc Great! Thanks :D. Wasn't expecting Scott to use reinforcing hoops. But I guess it evens out to some extent with the VLT and X shells!
Salzcamino 1 year ago
@Salzcamino yeah. Other than slightly raising the fundamental pitch for the shell, the hoops add a focus to the tone of the drum. I believe it channels more of the vibration to the center of the shell, and thus give a fuller tone.
DrumWorkshopInc 1 year ago
@DrumWorkshopInc Yeah, I actually read about that before you told me. But thanks anyways :). I didn't know they give a fuller tone though. I know this is like stating the obvious but I just have to say it; DW are geniuses! Including you :). Other than your knowledge you have a good way of talking to people =D
Salzcamino 1 year ago
You know what would be cool? If DW made videos or a DW forum on the website that we DW/PDP users can go to and talk about our experiences with our kits. You know, us "regular" drummers who aren't really famous. You folks can sign me up for that.
evansakidrums 1 year ago
@evansakidrums That's a great idea! Any reason why leaving comments here on YouTube is any less sufficient? Is it that you want more of a forum format, where you can create specific posts for specific topics?
DrumWorkshopInc 1 year ago
@DrumWorkshopInc - Just a random thought, actually. Would be cool to have a forum for us DW users to tell stories from our shows and rehearsals and so-forth. I love sharing stories with other drummers. And I love the fact that you folks also comment on your videos too. I like being able to communicate with you guys. Maybe I can persuade you and all the viewers here to check out my videos here on YouTube. But it'd be cool to share gig stories with other drummers.
evansakidrums 1 year ago
@DrumWorkshopInc - No. It's great to leave comments. I like the fact that you reply. But it'd be cool to share gig stories with other DW users. And for some of us who like showing off, like I do =), I can hopefully persuade people to check out my videos here on YouTube as well. LOL!!!
evansakidrums 1 year ago
@DrumWorkshopInc I agree with the forum thing. Here's why, this is going to be more to your advantage at first when I say it. I joined the Sabian forum a while ago, and was actually convinced in getting Paiste cymbals before I joined. But I joined anyways, and the members there convinced me about Sabian, and about how amazing they are. Guess what happened a couple of days ago. I bought my first cymbal set- Sabian Xs20 :). And by convincing us to buy DW we help you earn money, and us sound better
Salzcamino 1 year ago
@Salzcamino haha. win win. Yes, I get it. It would be nice for us to have a place to really "dork out" about DW product without the YT haters ;) We'll consider it for sure. Thanks for the suggestion and support.
DrumWorkshopInc 1 year ago
@DrumWorkshopInc No problem. I guess great minds think alike, I actually hid the reason of the YT haters for myself, but it turns out you have it in mind too :D
Salzcamino 1 year ago
@DrumWorkshopInc - I'm looking to add to my PDP X7 maple kit. You have Rata Toms. How much are a set of those and can you make it in the silver to black sparkle fade to match my kit? And another dream tom for me is a 14" x 20" single headed floor tom (gong bass with floor tom legs) and was wondering if you can make that too and how much? When I finish my cymbal upgrades, I'll know exactly what I'll need for my rack.
evansakidrums 1 year ago
@evansakidrums rata toms range from $800-1200 each (list) depending on the finish (finishply-exotic). Size (depth) does not effect the price. they are all 6" diameter. We could absolutely match the silver to black fade on your X7s. That would be a Lacquer Specialty (about $1000 list). Although I am sure we can make it for you, we don't have a price for a 14x20. Keep in mind all these prices are unofficial, and you will find the most accurate prices at your local DW Dealer. Thanks ;)
DrumWorkshopInc 1 year ago

I can start saving for it!!!
evansakidrums 1 year ago
@evansakidrums We love the dreams! To turn yours into a reality, it would cost roughly $16,500 Retail (list), and $10,000 "street" (more realistically what you'd pay a dealer). This doesn't include hardware, as those were not specified. But you could probably add another grand or two for that, depending on how dreamy you are ;)
Cheers! Thanks for your interest and support!
DrumWorkshopInc 1 year ago
@DrumWorkshopInc - Let the savings begin. Almost 13 grand? Hey, it's a DW. It's worth every penny. I've got the PDP X7 setup with a second bass drum and I love it. I'm sure I can have it in about a year or two. Unless the PDP line includes ratas and a gong bass. Or just a 14" x 20" single headed floor tom, which is more ideal. Thanks for the info. I'm a proud DW/PDP customer for life. I've played the rest over the course of 18 years. DW/PDP is, without a doubt, THE best I've ever played.
