  • @Craigman65 i was wondering if theres a effect used..if so what effect?

  • @shadowsfall201 just chorus

  • Man i haven't seen ANYONE play that song as well as you can!! You rock!! I would LOVE to know what individual strings you're hitting at the slow parts where it goes "So you crank that song..." If not no worries :)

  • Hey Craigman. Any tab for this? What tuning is this?

  • whoa dude, what kind of guitar is that?

  • Nice Job.....I miss these guys-this album came out and both "the oaf" and "that song" bring back memories of driving with the top down and their album blaring!

  • I know the strum pattern... What's the starter chord?

  • what tuning is that, is that the whacko dgdggd or?

  • @krazysquirrel27 drop D flat

  • Hi Craigman, I've enjoyed both of your posts for this song ( rather, "That Song" ha ha). Could you please tell me what frets are played in what order for the riff starting at 1:26? I've watched your instructional video, but I can't make out exactly. If I were to guess it would be, open, 4th, 6th, open, 2nd?

    Thanks, Tim

  • @tchimmerroks Open 4,6 open 2,4 open 2,open then 4th on A string and bend. I think, haven't played this since that day.

  • @Craigman65 so, you havn't played that song since that day? :P

  • @Abunchanada Yup. Ya know, I really love that song. Gotta play it again man...

  • i've recorded this on my mp3. it's the best cover version i've heard yet.

  • Its a half step down, with the low E dropped to Db.

  • i agree with the comment you made on the video info. Ian Thornley is hugely underrated.

  • PLEASE TAB also what tuning is it half step or what

  • Hey man, this video is so good... You should be able to learn it just by watching this, the camera stays focused on him, just pay attention and tab it yourself if ya need to....

  • dude please please tell me where u got the tab for this amazing song please

  • This really is a great song, i heard it recently after years, download it and sing it at the top of my lungs. I do not play the guitar but this song allways makes me play an invisible one and im glad i do it like craigman somehow hehe. Great job

  • awesome job man, this video has inspired me to pick up my guitar a little more often

    thanks.

  • Amazing!! Well done

  • Hey, great cover. I am a sort of beginner guitar player, but advanced enough to play this song, and I want to play your version. Is there anyway you could send me some tabs? This is really good. Also, what is the distortion you are using?

  • Looking forward to seeing you play. Sorry I have no tabs, by ear. Ada-mp1 is the amp.

  • Thanks this is great! A big help!

  • can you send me the tabs for this?

or maybe the link or something, cause i can't find a whole one anywhere

  • I can relate to everything in the lyrics from when the best relationship i have had in my life ended. to the guy playing the song in the video, i salute your skill playing and i wonder, if you have ever been through what the lyrics are saying, how you can play this song without spilling a tear. i cant listen to it without thinking about the years that have past since i was with the woman i think about when i hear this song

  • 2112...(I assume that is a reference to Rush's classic 76' album.) And if so, Rush fans are family. So here's my advice brother. If this touches you SO deep, you need to call her...get in touch. A woman with that kind of effect need not be lost through memory. She Sounds like THE ONE. Don't give up! It's a good bet if she had this effect on you, you had it on her. I know I don't know the situation now, but if possible, you NEED to do this! Rock on Bro! \m/ \m/ \m/

  • @negtype13 yes it reference to the RUSH album... long time fan of RUSH since i was 6 yrs old. the relationship is dead to her. sadly for me. fuckin messed up to hear this song, and SHIMMER by fuel, makes me feel the same way. oh well, thats life. some are good and some are wastes of time. just my luck huh. thanks for the friendly words amigo, riposi in pace.

  • your amazing, great job

  • thanks gordon

  • Killer playing on an anthem-worthy song. Love the sound, love your additions.

  • thanks mb

  • i still play this album on a regular basis. funny, i thought i was the only one who heard of them. they were completely original. Best song of this album, too.......nice GT, is that an Ibanez? sounds great.

  • thanks, its a Kramer Stagemaster

  • I saw these guys open up for Dream Theater a few years back. They were something else. I became a fan after that show.

  • Did they really open for DT? Wow, thats cool I didn't know that.

  • Great

    5/5

  • it looks great !!!!

  • Thanks, great job! It was a big help.

  • awsome!!!!!!!!

  • Well done

  • sun in my eyes .......

  • Comment removed

  • what a great song , i love it !!!!

  • Man that's a killer riff. Thornley is TOTALLY one of the most underrated guitarists! I'm having trouble trying to find that album though. It's listed under "Thornley" right?

  • It's' Big Wreck In Loving Memory Of.'

  • Good work.

    5/5.

  • thats awesome dude.

    best one ive seen yet

    good job

  • not bad, i play that song different from how you play...

  • this is one of those songs that just take you back to a time in your life.

  • Hey, that's a pretty unique looking guitar. What brand is it?

  • 87 Kramer Stagemaster

  • I'm not sure the exact model of the Kramer I have but it has the diagonal humbucker with two single coil's in a diagonal position and three toggle's......The original floyd rose etc.

  • Thanks dude. This really helped me pick out some chords I was unsure of. Nice work man.

  • this is awesome! Thanks for uploading it!

  • FUCK MAN, PRO

  • Thornley is awesome dude. This is not better than the recording, I'm sorry it just isn't. Whoever this Kahsm obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. It's played pretty well but not THAT well. You must know the dude or something.

  • check mine please!!

  • you play verry well this song!

    it's beautiful!

  • This is amazing. I have loaded this vid instead of listening to the CD because I love the extra guitar overlay. Great job man! It's a shame Thornley isn't anywhere near as good as Big Wreck was.

  • Thanks Kahsm, I thought Thornley had a kick ass CD, check out my Falling to Pieces vid, you'll dig.

  • Craig you are the man. And this song is epic.

  • Yes I would like the tab also. I've been wondering about this song for months.

  • Great song. good job sir.

  • oh yah.. send me the tabs :D

  • hey, just to let you know, there is a good tab on ultimate guitar, its a power tab, and i have it, and its solid

  • what guitar ? great cover man, PERFECT

  • I play it a little different and with more flash =) but it's all good. Check out mine if you can, thanks. Big Wreck rules

  • hey where di u get the tab for this song if you did?

    By the way awesome job!

  • one word. uuuuuuh awsome. well thats sort of 2words. i can think of more. "wicked", tight, amazing, i realy love that tuneeeee. good job again.

  • nice work- you make it look too easy

  • Awesome song! Nice job. I was fortunate enough to see Wreck live. They are the shit!

  • Stock ADA-MP1

  • Do you have to tune a whole step down in order to play this song correctly?

  • right on man, what guitar ?

  • great version of a great song i think

  • yes, you are playing it wrong but still, i like your version, it sounds very nice, did you learn that on your own or off of somewhere else? its a good interpretation but if you want to have it perfect theres still a long road to go, the actual song is easier than what you play though..please remember theres two guitarists so they intertwine their guitars and thats how they get such a beautiful sound, keep playing :D

  • you're playing it wrong

  • Sorry

  • yer playing it perfect man, look at ur rating, 5 STAR!!

  • what tuning do you/they use... ?

  • Drop the E to D then tune everything down til it sounds right

  • i dont know if thats the actual way to play it, but that does sound very nice!!! i learned from Brian Doherty (other guitarist) the way to play it and he says its the real way but it sounds a little different, im not using any pedals or anything when i play it on my epiphone though so that could be the problem, i love the way yours sounds nice and deep lol im using a les paul so a more smooth tone to it :D but ima get me a distortion pedal soon i hope, really great job though!!

  • I just love this song and wanted to play it as close as I could. I'm really glad a shitload of people watch it and are fans of Big Wreck and Thornley, I thought I was alone.

  • good work with this song, helped me out alot. i agree with you about Ian Thornley, one of my most musically talented human beings ive ever met.

  • Nice job, bro--Took me a while to distinguish your playing from the background track... Nicely done.

  • Nice post. I like it more that the official video because there isn't too much treble

  • Thanks foe doing this I'm going to keep watching this until I can do it,Man I love that song.

  • I watched an interview, recently with Thornley and his new band..'Thornley' and he talked about how in Big Wreck he got fed up of experimenting and simply wanted to write 'good songs', I was under the impression that experimenting was the force that yielded such great songs as "The Oaf" and "That Song". It's strange how fans see things, I suppose. My musical interests have shifted but my love for the glory of 90's alt rock hasn't. Ps. you make this look incredibly easy, very talented.

  • hmm, thats interesting why he left Big Wreck, i agree the only way they make songs like theirs is experimenting!! I honestly cant say i dotn like any Big Wreck song! Thornley has good songs too but they arent all great songs i read a quote by Thornley saying "releasing an album with 16 songs on it gives people a lot to chew on, but i like it better that way, rather than having one great song and 12 pale imitations of it" its sad he didnt stand by that rule..

  • i take guitar lessons from Brian Doherty (the other big wreck guitarist) and it seems he is bvery particular about sounds, any guitar teacher should be but in his songs just playing them makes me understand that!! hes a great guitarist and im awaiting his new band "Death of 8"'s new album :D i love all of Big Wreck's song and i hope to learn them and i wish very hard that Ian Thornleys new album will be more like Big Wreck, he has had 4 years to experiment :P looking for more rocking tunes!

  • well done !!!!

  • Dude..... very cool. I was wondering how to play some of this song and all the tabs I've seen sucked. Thanks for posting, it's not only helpful, but you do a great job

  • the dude (vb) and some of the contributors (jun626) post here on youtube. the sites must be about 6 months old now. your songs would fit in well - you might just need to do closeup slowed down version for each part.

  • can i recommend the vanderbilly website to you? it's a free guitarist lesson site you can post on.

  • cool. i'm assuming this in dropped D? can i recommend a website for you? vanderbilly dot com if you'd like to post some lessons there.
