@handyscot1 The climb is unreal and the mountain seems so tame - hard to believe the fury, then you see the crater and whats left of the east face. I'll never forget this one. Thanks for coming along.
Incredible video! I love the Pacific NW, been out there a couple of times but not for hiking, only sightseeing. Mount St Helens is one more hike to add to my bucket list of hikes.
Nice, this is an epic hiking adventure. One of the best hikes on you tube! Glad you had amazing weather. Do they issue permits and could you stay overnight? Love the fact the micro spikes and trekking poles were a necessity! Did you melt snow for water? Such great pictures!
@ihikearoundcom Thanks - once again, you're too kind! Days like this almost make us forget about the rain - almost, haha! Climbing permits are required over 4.000 feet (to hike to the top - and only 100 permits per day). You can hike and camp below with a hiking pass. Did not need to use my MicroSpikes - did use the poles. I carried 3 liters of water - no melting. You and Kim should apply for permits next season...
How was the temp at the top? Probably not too chilly. Would you recommend poles and crampons for the snow. I'm headed up at the end of July but I think there will still be quite a bit of snow. Nice work on the pics and video.
@TheBignick243 We hit 70 degrees up there. Poles do help a lot, crampons were not needed or used - plenty of snow steps already created and no icy patches. You will have a great time on your climb! Thanks for your comment and watching.
@ninjabomber1 Happy to help out. Very good question! Yes - it was very bright and you should most definately wear eye shades, plenty of sunscreen and lip balm (with SPF 30 or better). Climbers were getting sun burns underneath their arms and the back side of legs - all from the sun reflecting off the snow. Ninjabomber1 enjoy your climb - it's awesome up there!
Just outstanding ! what awesome country. Makes the local hills around New England look pretty lame ! Thanks for showing the hike. Nice camera work bud. Happy Trails
EPIC!! This has to be one of my favorites Bill! Look at how blue that sky is! What a blessing to have such great weather being so high up. The glissading action looks like a blast. I've watched this over and over again and I still "feel" it like the 1st time I watched it. What a great experience. 2 thumbs all the way up my friend! Breathtaking scenery. I'm going to show this to my relatives out in Oregon. There going to freak out! LOL I really liked the music. Thanks for sharing this.
@CrazyTaileZ Matt, once again, you are too kind my friend, thank you! This one still has me grinning : ) The four of us that shared a cabin the night before the hike could not sleep, we were so pumped. We had to be up by 3:30 and on the trail by 5:00. None of us were tired. The mountain and scenery provided the energy! You and your relatives going to climb it? That would be awesome!
@wawhiker@CrazyTaileZ Ain't nothing like mountain and scenery provided adrenaline :) I keep coming back and watching this. Most of our parks/trails are closed, and only propane fires :(
This just completely put me in a great mood. Today is going to be a good day. What a perfect day to be on a mountain, and what a great mountain. This was a complete joy to watch.
Wow now that looked like some fun sledding at the beginning! What a great hike with spectacular views! I think I could have spent all day at the summit just soaking in the view. Breath Taking! You really out did yourself on this one brother. The music was great as well. Very fitting.
@SnowLobo95 It was a very refreshing glide down - wet and cold, but refreshing! I really wished there was a flat spot on top - could you imagine an overnight there and seeing a sunset and sunrise? You're right, my most memorable for me so far (got another one planned in August). Thanks alot friend!
@MrBabelfish5 I felt I lost time I waited so long to do this until now. You're right about the area and that famous mountain. It's a honor and a pleasure Mr. B..fish, thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for sharing Mt. Helen! BEAUTIFUL! I was hoping to do some summer snow backpacking this past weekend but our group settled for summer dry trails instead. Do you hike regularly with this group?
@phr1sk37 Thanks buddy! Summer dry hking is a blessing too A! I know would enjoy the snow challenge - it's a gear test thing isn't it - haha! This was my first group hike. I hike with two of them (from work) - great hiking buddies! It's a blast talking about it with them, before and after.
Wow! Buddy! I know this sounds cliche' but WOW! That was awesome my friend! Just awesome. What a beautiful thing. My heart is in the mountains. It's where my ashes are going to go :o) Thanks so much for sharing your piece of heaven man :o) I rate this film with 20 stars. This is in my favs. Love it :o) That bum slide would have been so cool. Again, awesome job man :o))
@Ggreenvideos I kept saying it myself - just overwhelmed, by the vastness of it all - everything! I can see you as a Moutainman Bushman. Plenty ash on this mountain - haha! You are too kind on the fav and really appreciate it my friend. Happy to get my first 20 stars - WOW - LOL! Thanks Rich!
Awesome... beautiful blue skies! My mind is in overload seeing the contrast against the snow :) We just thawed out @ Tesuque Pk. 12,048ft. How much (deep) snow left there?
@ez2curanut Hey JG my friend - yes, I was struck too seeing the deep, deep blue. It's not that way being at sea level in the congested haze. I was amazed it showed on camera, though a bit grainy on the video camera - I noticed. Any thoughts why? No optical zoom used. The snow was about three feet - but melting fast in blamy 70 degree heat - haha!
@wawhiker i didn't really see any grain as for the blue sky. It is definitely cmos as can be seen by the waviness when you move around quickly. Here's a good video of cmos vs ccd if you haven't seen already watch?v=UEaDrS-yzIE . How much you spend on that camera $? Probably has less than 1/4" cmos, so wants to see alot of light, and by the looks of this video...its happy in the snow :)
@beast12101 And I could see your mountain too. It was a day I'll never forget. Thanks Beast! My vid camera is a first gen Vado HD pocket cam. 8 gig mem. The battery life is great. I does well when there is plenty of light. Sometimes it fades images way off in the distance as you probably saw with Mt. Hood. I don't use the digi zoom - too grainy - no optical zoom. The digital camera is a Costco special - Fuji 14 megapix / 5 opt zoom - a JX 250. Both cams were light weight choices.
Absolutely stunning views! Excellent job at capturing all that beauty on camera my friend. And a big WOOHOO on the glissade! Looks like fun right now :-)
@intenseangler John it really was stunning, all of it. We were on the trail right at first light and by the time we hit the tree line the splendor unfolded. The hike could have ended there and I would have still felt blessed. Then there was that glissade thing towards the end - WOOHOO indeed!
@dmacken11 I thought about rumbling - too funny - I really did! All that white stuff is really wet when it's 70 degrees and you're sliding along on it. I would stand up, walk several hundred yards, dry off and do it all over again. Guess what I had for dessert with my lunch? Though about taking a picture, felt rumbling and completely forgot - LOL!
@medicjimr I'm still amazed by what I saw Jim. There was a few moments... specially looking into that crater, being on the edge... I don't like heights - haha!
THATS THE FUNNIEST THING I COULD POSSIBLY DO!
