Fact is, they are not as unreliable as people think, if they were complete crap I doubt the many forces around the world would using it, however, to a degree they are still prone to damage or the receiver exploding on firing if submerged for any amount of time and fired straight after being pulled.

Firing a weapon whilst it's filled with water, especially in the gas system, can lead to catastrophic failure of the weapon, A.K.A it can explode causing serious injury or even death to the operator.
