omg !! cute ginger ! i love poodles ! I have a Toy White Poodle call Biscuit! They are spirited when they play and yet they can be so gentle too!! I have a short video of Biscuit doing some simple tricks too :D
I have a 3 y/o silver standard poodle. She is the smartest dog I have ever seen. I never knew how inteligent that breed is before Sadie. Ginger is obviously very loved and taken care of. Luv ur video :)
Ginger will learn a lot faster if she is only rewarded when she actually does the right thing.... So no treats for "being so smart" and "doing everything else so well", if you have asked her to do something.
NO reward is enough "punishment", no need to say "no" for not doing the correct thing, just let try again.
However, it is important to make sure the dog understands what you are actually asking of her before you can start requiring her to do the full exercise for a treat.
Very nice! I just lost my standard chocolate poo to cancer 30 days ago and he was smart as a whip. There wasn't a time that I couldn't teach him something and it never took more than 3 tries for him to understand what I wanted. Your 'Sit Pretty' is our 'Ask for it', where he would always promptly sit right up straight with his front legs out and sitting right on his butt. Weston was never a barker, but our Penelope (female) is a huge barker. Weston would let out a very deep WOOF, Penny yaps
you should only reward her for what you asked her to do. just keep saying the command until she gets it right then give her a treat, then she will learn faster because she knows what she has to do to get a treat instead of doing the wrong thing and getting a treat she will KEEP doing the wrong thing.
I know this video was posted a long time ago, so it probably doesn't matter now, but when you did sit pretty ( 1:18 ish), you gave him a treat when he didn't do the trick properly. He will think that what he did was right because you rewarded him for it...only reward when they do it correctly, even if its just for a few seconds.
she is georgus reminds me of one of the standards we used to have 'pippa' she was white though and we had another white standard we now have an apricot toy poodle and im getting a black mini poodle this summer
No, standards do not bark much at all, only at appropriate times like when someone is at the door. Mine barks sometimes when another dog walks by on the sidewalk, but other than that they are pretty quiet. Oh, and she'll bark at squirrels too. Standards are amazing pets.
@andrewz5757 I have a german shepherd, a border collie, and a standard poodle. Sorry to say, but the shepherd and collie are MUCH smarter, although the big difference is they are MUCH more interested in pleasing me and working. Poodles don't seem have much energy and work ethic, although I have seen exceptions. Ginger seems solid, but not very energetic, is she?
@aeiou99999 i gess some poodles are but i have a service dog thets a poodle and she knows sighn languge and german comands and is extremly interested to please
i like ur poodle! she is SO cute!! who was her previous owner? i lived in hawaii for 4 years and we had a standard poodle just like her! she was a spaz!! haha! she is probably dead by now, but her name was Ginger too! =]

Great video and no mistaking she loves you. Was she an owner give up ? Also, couldn't help noticing her super short tail !! Ouch !
Four of my five Standards were owner give-ups or rescued from a puppy mill.

@XBerryBlissX No they don;t usually only if you ignore their demands long enough or there is a stranger around.
LindenLeadsLLC 1 year ago
@XBerryBlissX
no.
The big poodle dont bark much, but the smaller poodles like the medium, the mini and the toy bark more, by nature.
Im sure you can do something abouth it if you want that breed =p
