  • thanks, that was really helpful....

  • Ditto, Andrea. Love it. Thanks so much for your help.

  • @JenFalci Glad to lend a hand Jen :)

  • Thanks Andrea...really helpful video...had my backup plugin working in no time :-)

  • @louisesteiner You're totally welcome!

  • She goes mucking around so fast I can't follow what she's doing or where or why.

Sorry for looking gift horse in mouth, but this is useless.

  • @bmarlin611 sorry you couldn't follow along - glad you recognize it as a gift though :)

Have a suggestion for you - I imagine that you run into this more often than just his once ... there's a "slow videos down" kind of tool that'll help. Just google "slow videos down" and you should see several choices. I have used winamp successfully.

  • @MMorales204

Google search for ".htaccess password protect directory" brought up some promising pages. if that's not it ... don't think I can help ;-) Good luck!

    Andrea

  • The problem I am having is that for whatever reason the page will not recognize the .htaccess file and loads the page without any authentication.

  • Yeah, well the title of the video is a bit misleading...that is all. i am trying to create a file to try testing it on my Mac here, and can't remember how.

  • @MMorales204

what do you want it to do? just open it up and plop whatever code you want in there. usually - your software will write on it automatically (but I work mostly in wordpress - ...) ... this is in your cpanel - shouldn't matter what OS you're using? write it in notepad or whatever macs use and stick it in there :)

  • So you showed us how to upload a file? This is not how to create the actual .htaccess file.

  • @MMorales204

well actually - this video does not show a file being uploaded - it shows it being created. What goes in it is entirely dependent upon why you're wanting it in the first place. In this case it's necessary for the plugin that I was using to add an automatic back-up feature to the wordpress installation I was working on.

  • so what does this do for your blog.?

  • @travelwithmathew

    Hi Mathew -

You can use an .htaccess redirect on any site - that's how I tend to use that file... to create redirects. But in this case, it's part of setting up the a back-up plugin.

    Andrea
