i know why people are having trouble with this album. or, why people think there is something missing. all of these songs except for a few could have easily been put on past DM albums. there isn't much new introduced with SOTU. for me it may as well be disc no. 2 for Music for the Masses if that were a double album. i think this is the first time DM hasn't introduced something new. does that mean it's a bad album? i think it's a great album, though play this song after To Have and to Hold

I dont think SOTU is a bad album, but they have done better. The only song I dont like on SOTU is Jezebel, I dont like the music and the lyrics are little lame... but Martin is still the man with the wings, for sure.

I hope this is NOT gonna be their last album. They are still going strong!

it seems to me that dave shouldn't have taken any song-lessons, his voice is sloppy when he outstreches and outlines everything, which he never did before, it was just cold, and direct even though distanced,

their musics so organic, they really take the time to create sounds. they dont just use any old sound, they tweak , mangle and recreate it like scientists. if they created a library full of sounds id buy them in a heart beat.

sorry everyone i have to say although you all do like it and i dont oppose opinions, and being a fan of depeche modes for 25 years, i have to say i just cannot stomach this album, i even feel that the poor production and filler album exciter was better than this album. this is the first album of depeche that i have never and will probably never own. i have listened numerous times and feel they could have done alot better especially following up playing the angel which was great listening.

This album has nothing memorable stuff, even Exciter had a lot of good songs like Dream On, Freelove, I Am You, Breathe and Goodnight Lovers, but this one has not an only one which has real quality.

This is their worst album by far and I'm afraid this is the last they have produced together, because they're out of inspiration.

i agree with you as well, there is alot missing out of this album, and i havent found but maybe and this is stretching it but maybe two songs i have liked. someone said it on another post, that this really challenges fans, and i agree with that. i think it is split you either love it or dont, i just cant seem to fall in the first of the categories.
