  • Hey Adam,I first picked up a harmonica back in the 80s,but I was just a dabbler until about 3 years ago, when I started getting serious about this wonderful instrument.Thank's for your video's they have helped me greatly.Your a great teacher!I read some of your bio before, and saw that you bought your first harp in Nanuet.Im from Poughkeepsie.

  • :)

  • Why do you think the harmonica is such a magical instrument? What is it that tugs at my insides when I hear it...such a simple instrument...yet it has such power and influence. I guess it may be because it's such a cheap instrument and the guy who has the blues and is flat on his ass can have one, so we've had years of hard-times and blues voiced on them

  • you sound great !!!

  • Ok, then, I'll definitely have to find a D then, because I don't quite have the skill yet.

    Thanks. :)

  • That sounds like fun...how do I get it?

  • There's a link in the extended description of the video.

  • Hey how'd you know my name was Buster? That's spooky.

  • Hi Adam.. You're doing great stuff.. And you are one of the few channels I display on my page as other useful harmonica ppl..

One thing that I would ask/suggest for you to do, that would immensely make your videos much more assessable, would be to write the key Harp you are using 1st thing in the about the video or title..

Anywho.. Happy Harping! And Happy Halloween!!

    Mike

  • Thanks, Adam - this is great stuff!!!

I'm going to purchase it right now.

  • Adam, I have a question for you.

I currently own two harps (one in A and one in C)

I know for cross harp, one often plays a fourth above (E blues A harp, G blues C harp and so on).

However I'm playing a song in E Minor, and I'm unsure as to use my A harp or my C harp (as G major is the same as E Minor).

If you could shed some light that would be fantastic.

  • Thanks Adam. Yeah it was pretty simple and I'll try not to be such a baby from now on. I downloaded as I said I would and listen people, get off your duff and shell out the 12 bucks. It's such a bargain and so helpful it will blow your mind. I mean what the hell, what is that two lattes or something? You're not serious about improving (and supporting one of the most giving people I know of) if you don't. And here's the best part: He's not wearing the fern shirt! (said with deep affection).

  • That fern shirt is my friend, buster. The two of us have been many places. In fact, he tells me which notes to play. I owe it all to Ferny.

  • I hope he's not talking about me. I always thought of Adam as THE "harmonica professor" just based on his level of clarity, detail, and consistent prolific output. His lessons are of college quality for sure. I guess my vids can seem a little dry, but the camera makes me nervy. I hope my passion shows through.

  • Adam, I remember seeing a 3-part instructional video, you doing Whammer Jammer. I think you were doing it out of your car. You mentioned my teacher - Jimi Lee, a couple of times.

  • I don't know if anyone has said this to you, but you kick ass! (to say the least)

  • I love this shit!

I am not learning harmonica per se but I just love the fact that people like you can spread knowlege like this for no other reason than the fact that it rocks.I can tell you love this stuff. Its really good, dont stop, you are really bringing a lot to people. Check out fretkillr, he's the guitar equivalent (and my friggin hero!). You are definitely a youtube goldmine!

  • Nice stuff Adam. I am getting it!!! Thanks a trainloads for another fine lesson and for giving all away.

  • Adam, would it be possible to tab out that James Cotton/Sonny Boy lick you play on the Shufflin Apples track? That is so freaking tasty. I know we should try and work it out ourselves but we novices aren't great at that sort of thing. I think it would help 'move the merchandise' :-) I know I'll buy the download the moment I know how to play that. I want to play it LOUD over and over until the neighbors appear at the door with pitchforks and torches. Please,,,just one more 'blandishment'?

  • Aw, can't you figure it out? It's a repeated three-note figure, a triplet figure, but you start it on the third beat, so that the second note is the downbeat.

    4b / 4d / 3 d

    a...ONE...a

The 4d "moves," in pitch terms, as you play it. It dives. You hit it with no bend, then immediately pull it down in the split-second you play it.

    Good luck!

  • Really good.....cool stuff!

  • These are great!

  • hi Adam how can i see the video of you playing Whammer Jammer when you had only been playing for 9 months i was intretested to see this.

  • There isn't any video. I never said there was. There's a two-minute audio clip. You can find the download link on the blues harp forum of my website.

  • adam thanks you and sonny terry are the best i have ever seen you are a great player thanks kman blurs band

  • Wow, you went a long time with that sonny boy lick at around 4.30....Adam, this is great, and I love your little idiosynchratic expressions...cat out of the bag, pause for the cause, brothers and sisters, etc. you're so authentic and unapologetic...makes your lessons unique and funny and interesting, thanks again.

  • Hi Adam,

I'm amazed about how you're working with the material! This is how it's ment to be. Thanks for your cooperation!

  • My wife just got this for my birthday looks like im having to buy her those ear plugs.

  • Hi Adam, I love your videos and your your style of teaching. Do you have videos on chromatic blues harp ?

  • I do not. I only play a bit of chromatic; I tried it on the street several times with Sterling Magee, but it didn't cut through. Since that was my main gig, I let it slide.

I think there's a big gap on YouTube--some chromatic player should start offering tips & tricks.

  • I bought this straight away and it's pure gold-treat yourself and download it!

  • "hate throwing commercials at you.""??? if you didnt throw these "commercials" at us, how would we know when there was another great lesson available?

it seems you are taking jam trax to a whole new level, as you did with the youtube tutorial videos and the MBH lessons! (are you sure you aint a professor in marketing?)

  • Moppin' up the Blues.

    Preach it Adam.

  • Adam--how about having them available on CD for those of us who can't download them?

  • They started off as a CD. You can google "play along sessions" and you'll find it. European-based distributor.

  • I love the fact that the good Doctor cannot help but teach. It is a pleasure to watch.

Ok I am sold, gone to buy it.

  • I brought it this week. Amazing, as you allways are! ¿Would you be so kind to make a pdf with de info in the cd art? I here you talking in the video about the name of the grooves and the changings (2nd theme is a challenge), but I don´t have that info! A simple PDF will do the trick! Thanks again, and keep blowin´for us! You´re a great guy, you know?

  • That's a great idea. I think I didn't do this because the CD cover contains one glaring mistake--the keys of two jam tracks have been interchanged.

  • The chord progression in that pdf would be very helpful.

  • The chord progression in that pdf would be very helpful.

(I accidently posted this in the wrong place a while ago :/)

  • I just bought this yesterday. I seriously recommend it!
