@ybh613 , It was cocked and locked, ready for melon bashing. Even though proper carry today for a 1911 is cocked and locked, I don't think the military service carried it that way very much. Sometimes in a video I might be firing with a rifle or shotgun and then pull a handgun without putting down the rifle. Much safer if all I have to do is pull and shoot.

FYI: In the Marine Corps. we address Staff Non-Commissioned Officers by their full rank. It is always Gunnery Sergeant. Never just Sergeant.
