In the opening scene, Christopher Lloyd had a red nazi armband on his left arm. A few seconds after it's on his right arm and after a few more seconds it's back on his left arm. Maybe an inside joke.
Most of this dialogue is word-for-word from the 1942 original with Jack Benny. A tribute to the quality of the script (by Edwin Justus Mayer, written for Ernst Lubisch) that they could do more or less the same scenes 40 years later and they work equally well.
Famswin I disagree this is the funniest part, damn close, but the funniest is at the end when they reach England and Mel enters the bar. Remember it? When you have a bar stop dead like that comedy gold. I find it funny that Charles Durning played this Nazi and he actually got wounded at the D-Day Invasion and then at the Battle of the Buldge. He earned the COMH deservedly so.

Also the scene where Mel Brooks's character is trying to convince Erhardt that he's the real Professor is pretty gutbusting.
All in all this has to be my favourite Mel Brooks movie.
