@fashionbee2010 You've either flattened the image, or you've worked on 1 layer and the background is part of it.

Always good to work on new/different layers. Once you've saved it, if you want to use it on the internet with no white background, save as a .png when you've finished. Always good to keep the layered .psd file though, incase you need to make any changes.

Don't follow this video too much though, it's not very well done.

People trace shit (or ctrl+click layer thumbnails) all the time to make masks, or copy & paste layers to make things look consistent, etc. If anyone out there DOESN'T EVER trace or copy & paste, they are either complete shit or fucking amazing... and I'm guessing that none of you whiners are fucking amazing.

The other reason this is poor is because the Sony logo wasn't originally made in Photoshop. No professional logos are. It's vector artwork probably done in Illustrator, so it can be scaled.

Actually I design logos for professional companies and most of them want them in layered PSD format, so they do use Photoshop. You can convert all images in Photoshop to vector, you just start REALLY big so they can be scaled down easily. Personally, though, I'd have just used the gradient tool with a radial, would have been much easier...

I've been working in the design industry for 15 years, I've designed logos and worked on corporate identity guides for Bentley, Marconi, Manchester Airport Group and hundreds of others. And not one had a photoshop logo. This logo was definitely not created in photoshop, you just have to look at it to know that. Have a look at the Pentagram logo book and find me one that was made in photoshop.

The problem with using Illustrator is it's limited functionally. I don't know why nobody here seems to realize you can create and work with vector graphics in photoshop as well. Anyway, the companies I was referring to are the ones who hire through design agencies and freelance bid groups, most of them want a layered PSD and a sign over of rights

Yeas, it 'supports vectors'. But it's not a vector app. hence the name. 'Photo' shop. The vector tools are really limited. Any effects you use won't be rendered as vectors. That's why Adobe made Illustrator. Or would you care to argue with them too? Why would you want to work with Photoshop when you're going to need to make your logo into vector artwork anyway? It makes no sense. And like I said, nobody in the real world does that. Find me a reputable company logo that was made in photoshop.

You couldn't prove it one way or another since any effects can be done in either software, you can't tell just by looking at it if it's done by a professional. And actually, a lot of people use both Illustrator and Photoshop, which is why they're made compatible. Start out in Illustrator and then finish it up in PS. I was merely stating that you can do vectors in PS which you insisted couldn't be done, and that companies DO request PSDs.

Errr - check the Paths section in the layers palette. Anything that has a vector path is thus a vector not a rastor graphic. A vector graphics is composed of paths that can be edited - i.e scaled for larger repoduction for better quality.

No quality is lost if you scale the image up from a business card to a giant wall poster etc etc

Rastor graphics are made up of various pixels that form an image. The larger the image, the larger the pixel becomes.I.e Photo's.
