  • There is NOTHING FAKE about Phil Keaggy. I've been a hard core fan since 1982. The dude is a jewel! He is an artist that can paint perfection with his guitar and his God given gift. And he is the most humble guitar celebrity you will ever chance to meet.

His personality GLOWS with the spirit of Christ.

  • @TexasSheepdawg21 Amen to that. Most humble guitarist I have ever seen or met for such talent. He could have been one of the most famous guitarists of all time with Hendrix and others, but he chose his own path to follow Jesus and I for one am glad he did.

  • 10-Q for posting. I saw Phil perform at or near Cal State Fullerton in the summer of 1988, and as I remember it, this is how he looked around then.

  • Thank You for posting! Keaggy Fan since 1982!

  • i don't think that the other guitarists mentioned should not even be in the same sentence as phil,no offense.he has still progressed in his style.he sure can play the stuffing out of the guitar.

  • awesome tone on this.

  • It's called Lip "Syncing" as in synchronization. Hendrix is dead, Jimi Page is crap, Clapton is limited in his paying. Other than Jeff Beck, Keaggy is the only dude from the 60’s who has done something unique and SKILLFUL w/ guitar, and is still around doing. Moreover, he can somewhat shred!

  • @HoldFastTheTruth, every guitar player is different , this guy is good but does not mean he's the best and not better than every other guitar player ..

  • @mede822 The best is the One who created music!

  • @mede822 However when Hendrix was asked how he felt about being the worlds best guitar player he said 'You ain't seen nothing yet..... wait till you see Phil Keaggy'

I agree you cannot say one guitarist is better than the other however you have to admit the Phil is in that top 5 list of all time legends of guitar.

  • I saw Phil at red rocks in 1999 his bass players amp broke half way through the show so from then on all he did was these insane solos for the rest of the show it was epic I was in the front row best show I have ever seen!

  • phill amazing!!!

    phill rules!!!

  • Are you sure? Go tell that to Phil. I have seen him play like this at concerts. Its not fake.

  • trust me my friend...everything you ever see and hear Phil Keaggy play is 100% real. No lip singing or fake playing...he is the real deal

  • @gminton1996 FAKE COMMENT!

  • @gminton1996 how absurd ,fake guitar . i guess your mind is so smalll ,or your ear i should say. you have no idea how real this man is and his one of a kind tallent. no fake here.

  • ive got this vid too - awsome

  • He really reminds me of Alex Lifeson's improvisational play.

Craziest structures but they always work so well.

Both of those guys seem to have their own conversation within any song they solo to.

  • This is one of my all time favorite guitar solos from Phil, He has so many different colourings to his music. I have my favorite guitar players being Eric Johnson , Joe Bonamassa, Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, But Phil Keaggy tops the list.

  • Add, some distortion, more bends, and presto. You have a guitarist that plays better than slash. And even with out the distortions, hands down he sounds better than EVERYBODY!

  • THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE GUITAR SOLOS OF ALL TIME

However it doesn't quite have the same impact for me when separated from the rest of the song 'Sounds'

I remember being so blown away the first time I head it as the opening track on side B of the 'Getting Closer' album :-

The music lulls you into a soundscape journey setting you up for the ultimate thrill-ride climax of stunning inspired sounds- the final guitar solo.

The live version is great but I'll always prefer the album version

  • @nigelcameron1 I agree. This is one of his solos that is better on the album which is kind of rare. This one here is cut way too short as well.

  • I just posted a version of this entire song live from 1988.. I never knew it was out there til yesterday

  • Always been one of my fav solo moments from Keaggy...it was seeing this man play back in 85' in Lima, OH that got me into guitar playing. His phrasing is superb. There is good players, great players, then there is Keaggy...a stones throw beyond the rest.
