I don't know how HE did it, but usually I do it with equalizer..take out all the low (and some other) freq's and boost the high freqs (or the freq's where the vocal is at)..

Or, you just get yourself the Acapella -version of the track (only the vocals)..

if you get the latest version of garage band (if you have a mac) or if you have a PC you can get programs for it that are similar, garage band really is the best thing for the job, it helps if you have some hardware (i.e. a synthesizer, mixer or maybe a set of turntables) although you can still do some great remixes just by using computer programs, but I find using a keyboard/synthesizer the most effective when doing remixes. If you still need more advice message me.
