I used to play in a band for many years with the guitarist in Fox (great player) who told me that he was very bitter about Noosha "throwing it all away" when things were on a roll to pursue a solo career. We all know where that got her.
Countdown often replayed clips from the 70s in the 80s... the song S-S-S Single Bed was a good 1976 hit - Noosha Fox is actually an Aussie! go figure. I also was around when this song was on our singles chart in 1976 ;p
Single bed and a Name like Noosha Fox says it all, but in 76 these songs were all the rage and you'd hear them on stations like 2uw here in Sydney at the time, the good ol days.
Listen for great music like this on a new radio station called "OffTheCharts" - featuring 70's (and some 80's) lost hits and chart wonders!
Go to Live365.com, type OFFTHECHARTS in the Search box and click on the station logo. The audio stream should begin. Become a VIP member and listen commercial free!
This song will be fearured on our first show beginning November 8.
one of the (many) things i love about noosha is that she is a bit wooden and in a sense awkward when she performs (in a charming way) ..... like its not something you see anymore (its all very glossy/staged these days ie: coreographers/stylists), it just gives it a nice quality, like its more real and gives noosha's performances a quirky feel which i like, can't stop watching her, she is facinating to watch and listen to :)
Hi @Feisty1967, thanks for your comment. My description of the clips says: 'Fox S-S-S-Single Bed Film Clip 1976 as shown on Countdown Australia 1982'.... So the date popping up in the film clip is the date it was shown on 'Countdown' Australia' when it was replayed years later. Bit confusing I know! ;o) Hope you enjoyed! Have a great day!
Noosha played Hull university, England around 1976 - she was amazing. Mad as a box of balloons and clad in what amounted to gold netting with a wide belt. Made quite an impression as you can imagine...

I'll take it, but my guess for later, was that the vocal reverb in this clip is electronic ... or mimed :( (likely for count down) ... as Jim does not use his tube in his vocal placement. Also Fox got back together in 1980 and released 2 singles in the 80's, figured they'd do a remake of their greatest hit. But yeah ... your on the ball with the fashion ... Probably mimed.
@metastopheles The 1980 stuff she did with FOX was contractual obligations... she had already gone sole.
Oh, and it's not a reverb on her vocals, but, some of the vocal parts have been pitched up and timestretched... probably recorded into Mellotron ribbons and played at a differend pitch. This technique was very popular in the 70's/80's...
(Mellotron: Embrionic analogue forerunner of the sampler...)
Sorry, your right, its not a reverb. Also, I was not referring to Noosha but Jim. Its called a flanger, run a tube from the foldback to the mic. Check out the live clips, when Jim does the hook, he puts a clear tube in is mouth.
I am sorry to disappoint you, but, that is NOT a flanger... a flanger is usually a guitar stomp effect (though often used in postproduction on other soundsources as well)
The culprit you are referring to is a TALK BOX... a bit like a vocoder.. but instead of a synthsound carrying, the guitar carries the voice here...
Talkboxes were very much 'en vogue' in the 70's, though they have made somewhat of a comeback and are widely available.
@macintosser ... kool .. whatever... where is it in this clip? All the live stuff, Jim uses it, but in this clip he doesn't, hence my confusion of which has not been satisfactory resolved in this clip ... and my memory of the clips as a kid, you see him using it. Can you Talkbox post production?
The vid is a BBC Top Of The Pops taping that was, for a change, NOT recorded in front of a live audience, something that happened, when bands were charting, but, due to other obligations, could not attend the times when the BBC recorded the weekly TOP OF THE POPS show.
The TALK BOX is too organic to reproduce in the studio other than by means of playing a guitar and sing through the pipe. There is software that can sort of emulate singing, but the human voice is too complex to fully emulate.
Thanks for pointing out the difference between a talk box (speaker box with a hose coming out of it connected to the guitar output) and a type of ..albeit crude .. flange (speaker box with a hose coming out of it) that is not connected to the guitar output.
And if I do a search for "Fox Top of the pops" ... the clip is live ... not this one .... but hey ... I'm just an engineer ... Y'know the weirdest bit ... Noosha has the same flower in her hair in both clips ...
Hey Diptwankynard.. I think you need to get in touch with your sexuality.. or at the very least do a little googling or wikipedia-ing! Thanks though :)
it wasnt a song ABOUT a washing machine!!! it was about a widow who would put her cloths in the wash with her dead husband's to see the clothes 'caress-ing' each-other, like they used to before he died....it wasnt about the washing machine iteself, there was more to it than that...
get fucked u cock head, it wasnt about a vacum cleaner was it it was about washing machine get it ? not a clothes dryer,I know there was more to it than that... go suck dick mate the comment was a bland response to Diptwankynard Kate DIDNT write about a bed did she she wrote about a washing machine !!!

I liked this little ditty when it first came out only cause of the clip. I thought Noosha was a real loon.

This is a good song . Noosha Fox has a sweet voice, sort of like a innocent child.
These songs will never disappear, because these songs come from a time when music sounded like real music . Unfortunately times have changed.

This is an original clip...
This was released in 1976 in Europe and Britain as well...
By 1982 Noosha Fox had been a solo artiste for a few years and, this band is FOX... her old band.
Also, this outfit is the one worn in 1976. In 1982 people didn't look like this anymore...
So, I can say this is genuine 1976... original FOX ... no remix... no Noosha solo...
