Evolution is a theory, carbon dating is not infallible and even if it was we dont really know how long Adam and Eve were in the garden before the were kicked out. It could have been millions of years. and nobody said we didnt believe in dinosaurs.

@goempelj People knew a lot less in the past. People from 3500 years ago weren't as smart or as knowledge as peolpe today in almost all areas of human understanding. @dragoonerzerg I have read the bible front to back hundreds of times, more than most Christians will ever read in their lifetime. I was raised as an evangelical, had all the "experiences"(trances/hypnosis)of a devout worshiper, even took theology classes, and considered becoming a minister. But I found too many inconsistencies/contradictions/mistakes,and began questioning. Then I realize this book is a sham, and I wasted much of my youth on a stone age mentality. Now I'm a much happier person!
@esiosan I wouldn't say the "book" is a sham, but maybe those who taught it to you and the method they used to teach it. The bible is just a book with a lot of words in it, UNTIL you pray that God will put His Spirit on you to move you and open your spiritual eyes and close your human logic when you read it. I can tell you thats when it will become the living Word of God and you will understand it and what it means. I know this from experience my friend!

Man uses this same logic to try and make this world a creation from an explosion billions of years ago, yet they cannot explain what caused the explosion. @you457wx Actually when I read the scriptures I was reconfirming my beliefs as I was raised Christian, so either I wasn't given this Holy Spirits blessing while reading it (even though through prayer I did ask for the holy spirit.) or god doesn't care about me. Significant scientific advancements have only taken place in the last few hundred years. The age of the Earth is 4.54 billion years old. The universe is 13.75 ± 0.13 billion years old.

I was raised as an evangelical, had all the "experiences"(trances/hypnosis)of a devout worshiper, even took theology classes, and considered becoming a minister. But I found too many inconsistencies/contradictions/mistakes,and began questioning. Then I realize this book is a sham, and I wasted much of my youth on a stone age mentality. Now I'm a much happier person!

In fact, it is the same joy,refreshment,bliss Buddhist Monks, Muslims, or any non-religious person feel while in a deep meditative state. I was also what you'd call "baptized in the holy spirit".
I felt this experience you say, and still do today but as an atheist when I meditate on the greatness of the Universe. These "experiences" are entirely natural human psychological phenomena, not attributes of a god.

Man uses this same logic to try and make this world a creation from an explosion billions of years ago, yet they cannot explain what caused the explosion. And if they do come up with an explanation such as certain gasses mixing, they can not explain where these gasses originated from. It's funny how people will believe any and everything BUT the bible.

So you are viewing Christianity through the observation of people who say they are christians, gatherings of people who call themeselves churches, and denominations of those churches instead of going to the source itself and asking God to send you that person who has the necessary credentials to teach you. @booxilla no, you think u know this.. the "fact" is, the creature in this book is no more real than the talking bears of goldilocks, or unicorns. a person can shout to the heavens that they feel the presence of pink unicorns but until a pink unicorn appears and allows us to prove its existence, then it doesnt exist. not counting the fact that the god of the bible is an immoral asshole. he locked 2 babies in a room w/ a rabbid dog and when they did wrong he punished billions..sick sad and untrue

@raztis1 The god of the bible is certainly not a children's story. Remember Jepthath? Judges 11:35-11:40. Or the fact that light is created before the sun, and that the plants are created before the sun. The story of creation is false. And don't even get me started on Noah's ark. Basically, the bible is full of historical, scientific, and geological errors. It's hard to take the words in it seriously since it was written by inbred, bronze age bigots.

Just ask any cosmologist about how well place the earth is in our galaxy to see almost all of the universe even to its very origin. Your literal interpretation insults the theological, cultural & historical truth that this story conveys. The Bible is not A book, its a library of books, told in many genres. You attack a straw man by affirming a fundamentalist hermeneutic as a correct interpretation of the passage.

Plants before the sun? Doesn't god know how his own creation works?
How could there be days 1-3 if the sun was not created yet? He said let their be light, but it is the sun that gives us light. Day 4 should be the first day.
God also suspiciously has human-like qualities. He works from 9 to 5, gets tired after working so rests. Why would god need to rest? That shows that God uses up energy and needs to go on holiday.
It just doesn't add up.

I was never even taught about the tons of other religions or thousands of other gods just too accept the bible as true. I was even made to go do the whole Sunday school thing. All religions do is divide our species and hold it back. Peoples core beliefs do effect society, these beliefs should not be based in fiction

@you457wx You can find justification for almost anything you want in the Holy Babble. It contradicts its self so many times its sad anyone believes the non sense is true. You can pull any meaning you want from it to comply with the way you want it to read. Just look at the 20,000 + different groups that use that book and their beliefs. In a advancing world with so much knowledge and 7 billion people it is time to put the old superstitious books and their unjustified teachings to pasture.

These people where more than willing to kill and do whatever needed in the name of the way they interpreted their scriptures. It is like this in far to many places. From Iraq to Ireland the slightly different books readings can only help divide our species in ways that we should be past. How do you not see this?

@party489 IF any of them where true should it not be a lot easier to see which one is correct. Common sense will tell you that no two people will translate the scriptures and their meanings the same way. That should tell you something right there. If any god wrote any book it would be so obvious and much better than what we have at hand. What make.s you think a child brought up muslim could rule out MoohamHead? They are brainwashed in a culture and by their parents very young. Same with you.

This is not something you simply forget about. Even the whole bethleham story. From start to finish in his life right there. @party489 the scripture has no misconceptions, the interpretation does, Jesus did not die for our sins, he died because we are sinners, he was murdered. if you murder a baby, the baby didn't die for it's sins, it died for yours, i never really walked with God, so for me the truth was revealed, i didn't search for it.

@you457wx part 2 as vegetation grew, our hero groug was not able to reap the benefits, (he had no mouth), but later it began to rain, and the water rested upon grougs surface, and slowly sank in. this sent off a chain reaction causing groug to thirst for water, and the closest was salt water, and he plunged in. because it was salt water it caused his body to divide its self, and now there were 16 grougs, 1 that went to search for fresh water, and 15 that didn't.

chritians only look at one line in the bible, who ever believes in me will have ever lasting life. athiest look at creation, but the bible is alot more then that, it teaches us to seek knowledge, wisdom and understanding, it's a guide to life, it tells you how to identify certain types of people, and governments, and teaches us history, and discipline, the bible is a number one best seller, it's life changing, and lastly it's a book of faith.

@ronocko the point i was trying to make is christians feel that they are without judgement, and they can act and live however they please. i'm not a christian, nor do i believe in church, if anything they lead people away from Christ. you are an athiest, and your right, many do not believe in God or satan, that doesn't matter, what does matter is not everything is one sided, religion was used to crucify Christ, but as far as scripture goes, you read without a Holy Spirit.

@you457wx Actually when I read the scriptures I was reconfirming my beliefs as I was raised Christian, so either I wasn't given this Holy Spirits blessing while reading it (even though through prayer I did ask for the holy spirit.) or god doesn't care about me. You'd have to elaborate your actual views on what you believe for me to actually make a case or understand where you're coming from cause at the moment you're not a Christian but you believe in Christ and biblical creation?
