DON'T BUY JESSEL...I'm runnigh 541cid Pontiac stroker in my 72 goat. My geometry is pertect and I have had 12 Jessel intake rockers snap at idle. They broke the exact same place as yours did. I've been going rounds with the Jessel Engineers but had no luck. Jessel is JUNK!!!!!!!!!!
I just finish rebuilding my chevy 350 using Proform Chromoly roller tip rockers. Eng ran great for the first 30-45 secs then started missing and back firing. Pulled the valve covers and found #5 intake rocker had came apart (3 pieces). Further inspection found there was a hair line crack in it. Not taking the chace I think im going to go with comp cam rockers, read alot of bad reviews on Proform rockers after mine failed.
iv had a set of proform on my 289 mustang for 15 years, streat strip car with a 100,000 miles on them,so far so good, yea there cheep, thats why i bought them in 1995, they were only 149 in jegs.my cam is 475 lift with 100 pounds of spring pressure, to much cam an spring pressure will break cheap rockers, also if your push rod is to long or to short you will break rockers. i guess iv been lucky,
Check your geometry and go for a good known name. In my case there is no way I would go for proform product as they are a reproduction of most american popular model. Carb, and other component for instance. I don't want to lead you to my personnal choice but, go with lunati product and federal mogul.
glad i saw this video. i was gonna buy a set of those for my next build, i think i will stick with comp cams, maybe thats why they are $159 for the set
I believe that the difference between the PROFORM rockers and the better rockers may be that the PROFORM rockers are extruded and the others are forged. The better ones are made from extruded aluminum bar stock that is then forged which makes the material much denser, harder and stronger than the ones that are simply extruded. I might be wrong but that's my understanding on the matter. I've never used extruded rockers and I don't think I ever will either.
The Chinese are good at making stuff that looks like the real thing but doesn't work like the real thing. Does anyone have any ideas how many hot rods are rolling around the streets of Guangdong ?
I knew it was a cheap as piece of shit proform rocker before the vid played these suck bad, if you want a dam good rocker call chet herbert or someonelse that actually manufatures thier stuff in the good ol' USA not China you commie bastard!
Ahh thats good of them. Not many companies round like that anymore.. Ive just bolted on a set of Cobra roller rockers from the US on my torana. They're to suit a SB Chev but they also suit a holden 6 so means ive got a few spare!!
good video. do you have reasons for cracking or breaking of rocker arm. what all to be considered to design it. plz inform to chethan_ushankar@yhoomail.
is that so? im running a .638in .668ex lift .254in .264ex duration @.050 solid roler camshaft with a 106 lob sep and i use aluminum rockers with out any issues. the engine spins to 7500 rpms on top of that.
not true. set the lash too loose and they're prone to break. plus you buy cheap you get cheap. all i've ever run is aluminum. the last one was a solid roller .720 lift and turned it 8300. i even broke a arp screw in stud. the rocker was fine and is still in use today.
Well I called up Proform parts and the tech department was very helpfully. They said the part should of not failed like that so they sent me another one free. Got to respect a company like that. =)
A whole one for free? WOW! Haha, I love that bullshit, "well, that one failed, try this one and see if it destroys your motor this time!" and we wont even mention the ridiculous waste of time and energy this all was.

supergman19 1 year ago
STAY VERY FAR AWAY FROM PROFORM ANYTHING!! except some of their tools, they seem ok, but rockers etc. are total JUNK! Very prone to failure!
metallifuk1970 1 year ago

Ask me how I know.

i have 9K in chevy 385 stroker, make a long story short i just found that my 1.52 comp cams roller rocker did the same thing.
my car ran like total shit. I hope there isnt any piston or valve damage.

Man I broke a shaft on 1, only when I went pass 7000 rpm. I saw told I should have a
stud girdle install to be safe.

Lucky I have had no problems with my new one they sent to me. So I will keep my fingers crossed

One must provide proof that the aluminum in Proform differs from Harland Sharp, Crane, etc.
Insufficient lash appears to be the culprit.
A forensic examination of the part would be interesting, but expensive.
The Crane polymatrix appear to be similar to the rockers in a WW2 Aircobra engine.
Does someone have a working Aircobra engine out there?

Same thing happened to me with Projunk SA 1.6 rr. Since then I upgraded to 7/16 ARP rocker studs and Harland Sharp NSA 1.6 rr.

I think it broke because its made in china! Other than that the new one is fine no problems.
TylerART 3 years ago
its because its not a steel rocker those aluminum ones always fail and whats your spring pressure?
