@raymondo1992 well, show me how to loop a digital vinyl system or set hot cues, which gets more and more important to Djs all over the world. and look at Hawtins other setup, two midi controllers on a xone 92 mixer. everything digital. and the possibilities are jsut amazing. you know, you don't win anything by using digital vinyl, even the amazing sound of classic vinyl is gone cause basically it's all about your mp3 quality
Because we dont have to, there are other ways to get us dancing,
Vinyl is still great but more can be done without the art of mixing records,
i love a good mix and have watched and listened to many great DJ's using technology outside the studio/bedroom and bringing it to the clubs is a step i like.
turntables cause there are some killer tracks that is not able on cd or beatport. And to me someone who is completely uses turntables during sets get's more respect from me. It's original and needs a higher class dj to stand in front of turntables
(After discovering the simplicity of dance music production, i realised it can be made hands on live. Also the fact that so many samples and loops are used).
Its last step before using full studio equipment live.
for one minute it sounds like something they know, but then it gets totally reconfigured.
Q.Why not just make a remix before a show ?
Because doing it live means it always different, responsive to the audience and continually evolving.
I started off as a Dj at 12 years old, but im now a producer. So after coming from a studio environment and returning to Dj'ing, i felt as if mixing with two records was very limited and straight forward. So what i've done is attempt to bring my musical talent..
Building my own build ups, breakdowns, and song compositions.
Its a continous process. I chop up drum loops into individual drum hits, punch out a beat and re-sample it, then maybe take a 2 bar phrase from a random track of maybe another genre of music, either chop it or effect it or both, re-sample, loop and maybe filter.
This may sound like ovious stuff, but what im creating actually sounds like a track in itself. But the crowd get excited because..
I play at various London clubs to 'trendy' crowds but i have alot more to perform live, and i need the right audience.
I currently use Xone4d, Serato with turntables, Ableton Live, a Pedal Looper and a Kaos Pad, and what im doing is way ahead of these guys.
I don't rehearse, or devise playlists or pre-edit tracks or Dj tools. But im creating new music and re-edits and remixes live on the fly, using the original tracks.
@abrahamcabrera Yea getting some video footage or recordings down is something that has been requested and on my list for some time. Unfortunately i havent done either ! Also i have been taking a break from dj'ing to concentrate on production, which is very time consuming considering i have had to rebuild a new studio for myself.
But its inevitable that i will have a channel devoted to my work and i will put alot of effort into and share.
traktor sounds really good, for anyone looking to produce and dj on a same computer(budget), this is a good solution. i run live 7 & logic8 at home thru the interface, and traktor scratch when djing: just take off the phase meter and it'll feel normal :) i think it sounds better than SERATO or CDJ1000s, and u dont have to look at the computer so much.
This worries me a little coz i haven't tryed it yet, but im thinking it's not what i'm thinking it is, it just aids the sound leveling probably?
Native instruments take out the problem of having one record play too loud or quiet by incorporating automatic input level normalization so all your tunes will play at the same volume. This feature also saves valuable mixing time, as you do not need to set the volume on the mixer depending on the track you are playing.
Please tell me .

you go to a club and dj is never looking at the dance floor, he or she has their head down going through tracks, tracks, tracks,

but leveling the two tracks is hardily a massive problem. just a quick change of the gain and a quick listen and check the level meters.
its reli not much 'valuable mixing time' it saves
i used Final Scratch a few years ago, im interested to try this out. to see how much the technology has come on in that time.
but i think i still intend to go to Ableton
