The one thing that I find encouraging is how interlinked world economies are. Financial warfare is gaining ground, for example, the iranian sanctions that is almost crippling their economy. Countries can be totally secluded from the international markets as art of financial warfare before actual war begins. This should shorten wars a lot. Countries still need money to pay their army, supply them and replenish war material.

If there were just regions with no border control then the planet's resources will be more evenly spread out. @108Dax I totally disagree with this assessment. Before the formation of nation-states, war was a sort-of permanent state. Borders are good because they establish sovereignty rights clearly. Just think of this: if you own a house on a land tract, you know exactly where your property (where you can build and take your dog to) ends, and where your neighbor's begins. If no such demarcations existed, you'd get in many confrontations about the whole space between you and your neighbor's house.

The provinces part are purely to make administration slightly easier. So I agree that individuals definitely need their own properties, but that these are not group in regional nations that use their own resources and set of laws, but the nations fall under one set of laws and have open borders and 100% open trade.

In my native Slovenia the communists used the WW2 for revolution and opposition joined the Nazis. The story of german collaboration repeats in many European nations. We're still divided and crippled by that.

It will more than likely be frustrating and pointless to search for some kind of closure, or demand these people to demonstrate sufficient repentence and remorse to staisfy our sense of justice, for all that happened back then. The amazing thing to me, is that just a few years later, we were in the Korean war, next decade its vietnam, and on it goes. There just doesn't seem to be an end of those that can justify arming themselves and targeting a people for destruction for self serving gain.

@mard420 No, the reason the Nazis remain so reviled in Europe and the world is that they were NEVER average, for their own time or any other. They set whole new lows in terms of their total disregard for humanity in a world already made cynical by this stage in the 20th Century, and their plans to annihilate whole races of people sets them apart. Some of the events in Iraq over the last few years may have been dreadful, but were never on the same scale as the Nazis actions in eastern Europe.

Its the whole 'nation' thing that is causing problems. It is the us and them scenarios that causes the conflict. If there were just regions with no border control then the planet's resources will be more evenly spread out. Yes, the quality of life for the upper 10% would drop drastically, but that would spur us into facing and dealing with actual current global disparities.

@108Dax I totally disagree with this assessment. Before the formation of nation-states, war was a sort-of permanent state. Borders are good because they establish sovereignty rights clearly. Just think of this: if you own a house on a land tract, you know exactly where your property (where you can build and take your dog to) ends, and where your neighbor's begins. If no such demarcations existed, you'd get in many confrontations about the whole space between you and your neighbor's house.

The provinces part are purely to make administration slightly easier. So I agree that individuals definitely need their own properties, but that these are not group in regional nations that use their own resources and set of laws, but the nations fall under one set of laws and have open borders and 100% open trade.

There were some german soldiers that refused to follow the orders of killing civilians.
Which meant that they were put with them in front of a firing squad.
Consequently, the same happened on the russian side. But the human survival instinct coupled with the fierce ideological indoctrination, made sure that most executioners followed through with their orders.

That's just evading my statement. Regardless of them being ordered like the germans, the HQ knew very well of the excesses of the Red Army. As long as it didnt effect the combat efficiency, they didnt care.
Unless the morale of the unit had degraded from such excesses that summary excecutions were brought up to discipline them.
An order to kill civilians and acceptance of it happening, are just as bad.

Actually the case can be made that the Sovs were much worse against civilians.

None were unarmed (well, some where but they were waiting to recover weapons from the dead, that is how it is when you require all people to fight. How then can "civilians" be killed? There weren't any!

Should we dig up the dead bodies and throw the remains in prison? Should we seek out the descendants of criminals and punish them instead? First, it wouldn't hurt to use periods and commas.
Second, it's not "your" land, it's "everyone's" land. Why you refer to this land as "our" (though you used "are") puzzles me.
Third, you are right that I know nothing of life on a reservation but I ask you 'is it difficult to leave the reservations'?

Is the military the only way to leave the reservation? I would imagine one could just walk out and leave?

sure you can walk off if you want take a horse are even a car but the whites are hard people to get along with now i speak of north western whites the southern people seem to be good hearted people im sure blacks would disagree but they made a great impression on me but up north diffrent story and NO we dont have casinos up here all we have is poverty the states wont allow it your damed if you do dam if you dont no pleasing the whites up here but leaving is hard family people do but most dont.

no im a american citizen i have rights to live where i want but if i was to i would have the police at my house every night if someones house was broken in to i would be blamed people would paint racist remarks on my house..but honestly we want to live next to you as much as you want to us. i dont want to get anyone upset but we are not black we see no need to fit in with you to be equal i feel my history culture makes most whites below me im only being honest not hateful.
