@sanddollarscholar No it wasn't, haha. Or, at least, the arrangement of this song that I've seen was the same tempo. I don't know if you've seen it slower, errrr?
the soloist definately could use some improvement...other than that i loved it. very sharp chords, which definately makes me get goose bumps ;-P nice job guys
Really powerful, I love this song and the way you sing it... the final part is really well done =) I hope you'll win something like a choir contest, because you're very very very good!!
well my choir is singing it as one of our side song and were (Chamber Singers) are going to sing with are Concert Choir to give them some extra voices and some strong voices....but were singing this way faster probably twice as fast but with super extreme diction so it'll be very crisp...."KKKeeepppp your Lamppps TTTTrimmmeddddd and BBuuurning (etc, etc)"
hahah gosh people need to stop criticizing other people. because they sounded good and most of you dont even sing or have ever sung before so you need to stop hating on people that are better than you. you should make a video of yourself singing and prove me wrong.
wow i never thought that song could sound werse!! but they did so. cuz my chior teachers plays this cd even she says its scary, but this is no talent just saying the words!!
that sounds terrible. their singing is like they are running out of breath. they are loud, and that is good. but they need to work on breathing techniques.
it was good until first soloist, it was sharp...but the dynamics and harmony was pretty much perfect! When we sang this at my school, we got a I. or superior! I'm still in choir, it rocks! I have been for four years. Its so fun and i luv to sing! Good job and keep singin!
Meh. It was an alright performance in my opinion. There was good energy and great dynamics, but sometimes it sounded a little sharp and all over the place, especially because of the soloist.
I really, really wanted to do this school when I was in high school! I don't recall that "using slang" term and I was in the Advanced/Chamber group at my school. So, you'd think that teacher would know what she was doing. I like it...clear and I love the balance. That's very important! EXCELLENT!!!
you sang this song at my school.. but i will admit we were so much better.. and thats bad for ya'al cause we are a middle school.. we got a supierior rating!! oh yeah, we r cool kids!!! cooler than ya'al!!! hahahaha
ok this song was written by a black composer..[who knows my Choir teacher]...well anyways...your not supposed sing the "ing" in burning... it's burnin'
very true, if you try that it will sound alot richer. try to make it "crisp" nice balance among the part though, good luck with any other performances
ha i did it in 8th. the older you are the more mature it tends to sound but thats not always the case. i hope u guys love performing it as much as i did
lol. i'm in the ninth grade and my choir is currently doing this song. skittles is right about how mature the song sounds if you're older and sing it.
why so fast and where is the dynamic contrast and the overall of appreciation of the text the performance would have been better if you would have had understood the text and the ending could have been betterwe sung this sophomore year in high school and we school this piece with high reverence and respect and work on the pitches i dont think there was supposed to be a solo but it sounded like one she needs to work on it just a little but u guys r good for wat its worth
i agree with kirathebruiser on many counts...your soloist is tone deaf, the choir was very flat. the tempos also fast, and yeah. oh well. and i too am singing it in chorus.
i agree with kirathebruiser on many counts...your soloist is tone deaf, the choir was very flat. the tempos also fast, and yeah. oh well. and i too am singing it in chorus.
your music made me weep... with horror! sorry, but your soloist was seemingly tone deaf. i, along with selenashelper am singing it in chorus class, so i know how it should sound. slow down the tempo. oh well. better luck next time.
The tempo is wayyy too fast for the song (which I'm singing with my chorus in school) and the first soloist or group during "Children Don't..." was very flat. Other than that, good job. ^^
I wish my high school choir could sing it half this well, lol. Amazing, talented kids. Wonderful.

Where's the fire? (I think the point :"Christian Journey soon be over" was missed!) Isn't this a Holy Week piece?
I like the sound though.

My school had a Christmas performance tonight, and this one of the songs that the main singers sang, and they sang it beautifully.
DisMusic08 3 years ago
my choir director spoke with the composer of this piece, and he said that people tend to speed up African-American tunes too much, like this video.
You have to really slow it down and savor the culture and meaning of the song, instead of rushing.
and plus the mix is really bad.
there's about 5 voices in every section that sticks out.

If I was judging this I would give this a Division 3... Fair It needs work. Im from Fort Worth, tx so we have a different judging scale

the dynamics need to worked on, seems forced, soloist could use work, or use whole soprano section

The soloist is not right for this song, she sounds way to airy and like she is struggling to breathe....it sounds rushed and needs rounder vowels.

but the sopranos sounded a little childish at some parts. and some of the words were slurred. it should be more staccato.
