@rafajoerman Hi, thanks for watching, I made this video nearly 2 years ago, so I'm afraid I've forgotten how and what I did when I made it! (Although I think I used the Gmod Model Manipulator for some scenes). But if you go to the Garry's Mod website there are addons there that you can install for Gmod, like 'NPC Animations', 'Combine All-Purpose Anims V1' and 'NPC Weapons' which should give you everything you need.

It may have been over a year since you did this, but I have to say it is very impressive. Is it all done in Gmod, or did you mix it up with scripting stuff in Hammer?

@trvius Thanks, yes it's all done in Gmod (it's a film, a first person machinima) with a little bit of Face Poser, although I've been thinking of having a play with Hammer for some scenes in Part 31 (the video I'm currently working on) and future episodes in the series.

@trvius Yes, I'm still using the trial version - I could - should!?! - have the full version by now, I guess, and I know the watermark can be a bit distracting, but I actually like the fact that there's a time restriction ( 30 seconds) on recording in the trial version, as I just feel it sharpens me up and helps me to focus on getting a scene right, while also making editing the clips later a little more manageable.

@xXWShadowWXx Yes, since I made this video I think a Gmod update has changed the ragdoll physics, as they won't go flying/cartwheeling/somersault­ing through the air like they used to. I haven't thought about how to go about changing them back because, well, I haven't really needed them for my latest videos! I don't know, I haven't had time to do a search yet, sorry, but there might be a console command to re-enable them - or have you tried SMOD? Maybe someone reading this can help?

@best360gamer Hello, and thanks for your kind words (and for subscribing!) You know, in all the time I've been making these videos, I've never noticed the lack of footsteps in Gmod for the Combine Soldiers until you mentioned it in your post (probably because usually something's exploding or being fired upon, so I wouldn't hear them anyway.) But I had a look in the game's audio files, and under the Combine Soldier there are a number of files called Gear1, Gear2 etc, which, when you play them...

...sound like the sort of thing you should hear when they approach - the rustling of equipment and uniform, the creaking of boots - so maybe Gmod is lacking those wav files for some reason (When I heard them I immediately thought of the Elites advancing upon you in the Citadel.) I don't know how you could fix it - maybe copy and paste the files into Gmod? But I've been thinking of doing a kind of 'stealth' section for a later episode in the series, so that might be a problem!

Hey um ive just finished watching all of the videos that u post for half life 2 (gmod) so how does the death rides in places relate to the story u made? anyways i like this i want to know what happened to Freeman, Alyx, Barney, Kleiner, Maguasu or whatever, and the rebels. :P

Before anything else: Thanks so much for watching all of the videos! (I haven't worked it out, but I'm guessing that must total about 4 hours of your time?).

And I did think about making a Prologue that would show some of the events leading up to Part One (Death Rides into City 17), although I've deliberately left certain things vague and unexplained (for the time being) - and I also have a few other ideas as to how and when to start filling in more of the back story and 'plot holes'.

Yes, I'm sure I spawned some rebels over there for that part, but I think the Striders and Hunters must have killed them before I finished recording the scene! Also, I wanted to show how ruthless the Combine are when bombarding a sector with headcrab canisters or APC rockets - even if this means sacrificing the lives of their own troops.

(And a Strider-sized thanks again for continuing to watch and comment on the series!)

Hi, in addition to my own 'acting' and 'reacting' I try to use the rebels' speech, or even the Combine's radio chat, to convey what Freeman's thinking or feeling, but there's only one man who could possibly voice Gordon's thoughts - and that's Freeman's Mind's (and Civil Protection's) Ross Scott!

They should ship Freeman Offworld and maroon him on an inhospitable planet.

But they presume he's dead a week later and come to inspect the place. And freeman somehow gets back through the combine portal they used to check up on him

Another great video but when I was watching a couple of questions came up why didn't the combine just use the refractor to atomize freeman and were the striders on freemans side? I think I saw some gauss gun usage in there it was indeed a cool effect, speeking of effects I like when the munitions blew up too. Cant see the exciting continuation cheers my friend :}

Yes, that 'refractor' bit is a little random! I recorded those scenes a couple of years ago, and intended to use that death ray effect for what eventually became the opening few minutes of Payback. But it was broken when Gmod was updated to the Orange Box version of Source, so I used the lasers for Payback instead and, as I liked this effect, I decided to keep it and throw it in here just for hell of it! ( And Freeman isn't 'atomized' because, unlike the rebels, he doesn't fire his weapon...

... btw, I don't really have a name for it, but 'Refractor' is a good one - sounds perfect - although...it's not important, and doesn't really mean anything with regards to the story, as I just made it up for the video, but when the Combine are warning their soldiers to take cover, and say 'Codename is X-ray', X-ray = Xen Ray...)

As for the scene with the Striders, that was just an idea I had for a stealth/platform section (I lost count of the number of times I fell off attempting those jumps) - I just thought it would make sense that as they were so pre-occupied firing on the Rebels that they wouldn't notice, or they would be too busy to notice, a'flea' like Freeman.

Yeah, I have been "acting" and playing a bit like a helpless rabbit these last few episodes, but I wanted to convey a sense of real powerlessness in the face of the scale of the battle raging around you (although this probably would be unendurable and annoy the hell out of you if you were a player in the game.) Also, without hopefully spoiling the video, I wanted to show how Freeman's inaction, inertness, hesitation, whatever, causes other characters to pay a heavy price.
