I saw a baby bear while out hiking, it was simultaneously the most adorable and terrifying thing I have ever seen. Didn't see the mother, which just made it scarier. If you can see the mother you know what to do and where to move to, if you can't it means she is a ninja bear and can kill you any time.

Ya, very sad video as it doesn't bode well for the bears in the long run. They are conditioned to humans and will become more and more "brave" in the future. It's a little simplistic to say that all people who shoot bears are "ignorant a-holes", as the behaviour of people like this dingle-nut in the video is really what kills them. Like people, bears are a product of nature and nurture to varying degrees and those who attack do not simply have 'attack humans' genes.

Well if thats true then whats sad about it? Me thinks the ignorant a-holes who decide to shoot a bear (or any predator), and the fat idiot puppets who decide such an ugly policy. Black bears are mostly harmless, and its time to thin the herd if someone gets attacked, there's a gene pool that needs to be eliminated.

This is a sad video. All three of these bears have become conditioned to humans and will likely be shot later down the road either by coming up to a human for a friendly visit or for food. Normal black bears are extremely timid and can be frightened by subtle things as the wind blowing and branches breaking. The fact that these bears are not bothered by the loud noise of the diesel engine shows just how complacent they are with the human world.

I do hope you consider yourself lucky. A bear cub even at that size could easily have taken a finger or two off if it wanted. I'm glad it didn't, but that definately wasn't the smartest thing you could have done to stick your hand out to it.

It'll be cool to be as a grizzly bear because people will go like "aww!' and stay away from you good I like a bit attention and something like "Hey! stay away from me or my momma will kill you." and its also to shot a grizzly bear i nthe wild in no hunting territory where i live.

THIS isn't good, showing familiarity with vehicles and roads... the mama bear and cub might be great to film but not if they get hit by another car. It happens.

There are no Florida Black Bear attacks that I can find in history. They are very calm. Maybe because it is so F'n hot here and they are so black and furry. I often find them laying in my yard in the shade and as I commented on my video response...EVEN IN MY POOL at times!

I wonder where you were, and when? Last year in California, after the spring wildfires, our bears were very hungry and interacted with humans much more than usual because of that. They also spent more time nearer people's houses, etc.

I gather people are quite tolerant of black bears in the neighborhoods since they must realize that calls to Fish & Game will only get the bear shot as I just learned that in CA pest bears aren't relocated, just shot. This is so sad.

Bears are naturally afraid of humans and it should remain that way. If they get conditioned to not be afraid around people, they boldly go into towns to look for food.. (garbage, dumps, homes), if they get conditioned to human food,a human bear attack is more likely. When bears taste human flesh they become problem bears (man-eaters), and have to be put down.

Bears cannon "unlearn" something.. :/

Black bears are NOT aggressive unless they feel very threatened or their cubs are threatened.

Many people think black bears aren't aggressive. I checked statistics since 2000 and most of the fatal bear attacks were attributed to black bears. Many say that they are more cantankerous than grizzlies & consider grizzlies to be gentle giants who are experts at avoiding people. Bear proof trash containers should be mandatory to save many bears' lives. It's important people never feed bears as truly a fed bear is a dead bear sadly. I adore bears thanks to precious Knut & L'il Smokey & Flocke.

I love bears!! When I was young. they came up to my car window and I had rolled down the backseat window..(being only two, and curious...but, scared after the bear stuck his big nose at me! Scarrrry!!! I had to learn how to roll back UP the window!!(Yellow stone park!)

Luckily didn't get THAT much closer!! LOL!

I don't think you should pet them, or other wild animals, because #1, the mother was there, I know she didn't attack you, but if you pet some other wild baby animals, and their mother was near, the mother might think that you're harming them, so they charge at you and attack. #2 The baby animals might remember you when they are older, and think that all humans are nice, so when a hunter comes, the bears just run straight to the hunters, assuming that they are nice. But I liked this video!
