  • I'm about to play this as well!

  • After hearing this recording I started looking for the LP on ebay. I finally found a copy in South America and had it shipped to me in the states. I couldn't be happier with it, the sound of the LP is just so much better than the youtube upload.

  • Amazing! Great quality and not a single foul note!

  • For you ppls who r looking for a followup to this search kabelevsky violin concerto Leung. The guy who plays that is AMAZin

  • yay for oikstrakh! good job! NOW... how am I gunna do this?!?

  • @pinkbananas21 Haha, practice practice practice and a LOT of help from a professional! x] Wish me luck I'm performing this on Saturday. O.O

  • @pinkbananas21 Haha, practice practice practice and a LOT of help from a professional! x] Wish me luck I'm performing this on Saturday. O_O

  • @harrihaven2 bahahahah good luck! im sure you'll do very well [:

  • @pinkbananas21 Thanks!

  • Haha, ikr? The only other song that i know that goes this fast are the triplets in Canon rock for the violin. xD

  • I cant even move my fingers that fast lol.

This piece is hard to play fast.

  • WOW!! not sure If my brain can keep up! Its going to be a loooong time before I can play it THIS fast. x]

  • wow who's the one person who disliked this????

  • he takes it pretty quick! Worst thing is it sounds great that pace... More finger work...

  • <3<3<3

  • Exactly... :)

  • :) :) :)

  • This is so fast and good!!

  • WOW! :O

    Oistrakh's playing is ..

    there are no words.

  • Wow!!!

  • Lol at the people who asks "Is this supposed to be this fast?"

This is Oistrakh playing; this piece was dedicated to him. Technically, it would be right to say that however Oistrakh plays, it is the correct way to play it; However, hes dead and so is the composer! Anyways, anyone can play it the way they feel is best; that's music, it isn't subject to anyone particular :]

  • yup, here he makes his playing very lively. I love it! (B

  • of course its lively ;D it says "Allegro molto e con brio"

  • @joe2010ccc I mean he makes it sound really lively despite the song being lively

  • Haha kk

  • yeah, but you can make "Allegro molto e con brio" really lame and dull. He creates accents and makes his vibrato fast and clean. His bow strokes have really good diction

  • It sounds great fast, but knowing that I have to play it makes me want to cry.

  • AGHHHHHHHH 3:45

  • Ahaha, it isn't as hard as it seems.

    I've played it before.

I mean, Oistrakh makes it look easy.

  • isnt it a little bit too fast?

  • I'm actually working on this piece right now...is it supposed to be this fast?

  • I took it a bit slower when I played it, but that's pretty much the idea. No one will look down if you go 20 under :P

  • I know!!! me too I find this version so fast! with this concerto, as long as you are extremely precise in the rythm, and u take it mesure by mesure, instead of time by time, it can be perfect at 69 :P

  • Not every violinist is going to perform the same piece the same way. I was listening to others and their interpretation different than Oistrakh's. Some prefer to play it a touch slower while others might want to play it faster.

  • It's really a matter of taste, I love it fast and a little slower is just plain sexy!

  • Wasn't this work written for Oistrakh? And if so (I'm not sure it is so-- can someone tell me?!) isn't that a good reason to think that his tempo is the right one? It certainly seems to work musically. I'm thinkin that in this case the comment "It's too fast!" means "I can't play it like Oistrakh yet!" (For the record, I can't either! Back to the metronome for me.)

  • No... Shostakovich dedicated his volin concertos to Oistrakh and so did Khachaturian... but no other that I'm aware of..

  • for those saying its too fast: ITS NOT!!, this is the speed its surposed to be played at, perhaps you just need to work on your technique

  • lol yeah.

but you do have to admit, it's beautiful this way

  • Thanks for posting this. Somebody uploaded this before and I listened to it while playing this piece. Sadly, it was taken down; it's nice to see it back up again.

  • The speed is excellent---about as fast as Gil Shaham's great recording.

  • this guy is AMAZING. i seriously has no idea how he plays the really techincal parts so clear and crisp.

  • i wish it was slower....

this sounds too rushed. I'd rather take my time to enjoy some parts. Good technique though.. it must be good.

  • my violin teacher (for the summer), Taras Gabora, told me to learn this on my own since he is leaving for a month. he told me about this specific recording that i'll probably not find... BUT I FOUND IT!!! thx 4 uploading!

  • exactly same here my teacher wanted me to find the oistrakh version

  • @punchaloo me 2. =P

  • Thank you for posting.

Ah, Oistrach! One of my regrets is not having had the chance to hear him in concert.

  • It's very very fast. How can he play this piece this fast?

  • Lydia Mordkovitch owns this concerto in the recording with Jarvi and the Scottish National Symphony

  • amazing!!!

I am learning this song right now, and listening to him playing give me a reason to practice even harder.

    :)

  • If only we could actually see him playing this, with his technique and all.....

    I love this piece!

  • I truly love this piece!!!!

    thx for posting it! :)

  • The second theme of this is so beautiful =]

  • my god !!!!! gorgeous !!!!!

  • Thank you so much for this upload!!!

  • Thank you soooo sooo much for uploading this! I've been looking for it for years :)

  • I played this concert a few years ago!Although it's a more recent concert I like it!

I ussually do not like what's recent.

    I think I have even a faster version,also with Oistrakh,but it's on cd.

    Anyway,beautiful interpretation.

    Thx for posting :)
