Churches should pay their fair share of taxes like all other organizations. Other non-profits have to file tax paperwork. The Churches get a free pass, off the books, in secrecy.
Damn it I agree. Implicit and explicit electioneering etc. does go on in religous organizations. The Real Estate Holdings and wealth of some of these organizations is phenomenal, than they turn around and use Tax Grant money for their "faith based" organizations so they can pay church members a salary...all because they care so much, isn't that precious.
Not to mention the never ending scandals and so on.

The government thought that the financial problems could be solved by printing certificates representing the value of church properties. These church lands became known as biens nationaux. Assignats were used to successfully retire a significant portion of the national debt .
